Chapter 1
How To Install Your Hardware
Before you begin the ac tual inst all ati on of the WDXT- 140 or the
WDXT- 150 hardware and software, you need to prepare and install your
intelligent drives. Steps 1 and 2 below refer to these procedures.
Important
Each intelligent drive in your system requires a separate
interface cable. The WDXT-140 and the WDXT-150 DO NOT
support hard disk drives attached to daisy chain cables.
Installing Drive(s)
1.
Turn your computer power switch OFF and unplug the power
cord. Then remove the computer cover. See manufacturer's
manual for details.
2.
Look in your intelligent drive manual and follow the steps to
configure and to install your intelligent drive(s). These steps may
include:
• setting the drive number and terminator resistor
• attaching the cable(s) to each drive
• mounting the drive(s) into the computer case
• attaching your drive to a power source
Changing Adapter Jumper(s)
There are no j umpers on the WDXT-140. If you have a WDXT140 board, you can ski p this sect ion and go di rect ly to t he next secti on,
Connecting Cables.
The WDXT- 150 adapter board contains jum pers which control
the BIOS address, t he port address , and the i nter rupt r equest . Figure 1- 1
shows the locat ion of these jumpe rs. Change the BIOS and port addres s
jumpers or the interrupt request on the WDXT-150 adapter board, if
necessary.
See Appendix B for instructions on how to change jumper
settings.

Connecting Cables
After you have com plet ed ins tal ling your int elligent drive(s) and
changed any jumpers required on the WDXT-150 adapter boa rd, follow
either step 1 (i f you have the WDXT-140) or step 2 (if you have t he
WDXT-l50) to connect your cables into your adapter board.
1.
Connect cable(s) from drive unit(s) to WDXT-140 adapter board.
If you have a WDXT-140, see Figure 1-2.
If you have a WDXT-150, see Figure 1-3.
Drive 1 Cable Installation
Attach the interface cable 40 pin connector fr om the fi rst drive t o
J 1 on the adapt er board. Attach Pi n 1 of the cable connector to
Pin 1 on the adapter board. See Figure 1-2.
Pin 1 of the cable connector is marked and is on the color
coded edge of the cable. Pin 20 on the WDXT-140 board is
keyed (pin missing). Do NOT force the cables and connectors.
