Chapter 1
How To Install Your Hardware
Before you begin the ac tual inst all ati on of the WDXT- 140 or the WDXT- 150 hardware and software, you need to prepare and install your intelligent drives. Steps 1 and 2 below refer to these procedures.
Important
Installing Drive(s)

Turn your computer power switch OFF and unplug the power
cord. Then remove the computer cover. See manufacturer's
manual for details.
2.
Look in your intelligent drive manual and follow the steps to
configure and to install your intelligent drive(s). These steps may
include:
setting the drive number and terminator resistor
attaching the cable(s) to each drive
mounting the drive(s) into the computer case
attaching your drive to a power source
Changing Adapter Jumper(s)
There are no j umpers on the WDXT-140. If you have a WDXT­140 board, you can ski p this sect ion and go di rect ly to t he next secti on, Connecting Cables.
The WDXT- 150 adapter board contains jum pers which control the BIOS address, t he port address , and the i nter rupt r equest . Figure 1- 1 shows the locat ion of these jumpe rs. Change the BIOS and port addres s jumpers or the interrupt request on the WDXT-150 adapter board, if necessary.

Connecting Cables
After you have com plet ed ins tal ling your int elligent drive(s) and changed any jumpers required on the WDXT-150 adapter boa rd, follow either step 1 (i f you have the WDXT-140) or step 2 (if you have t he WDXT-l50) to connect your cables into your adapter board.

Connect cable(s) from drive unit(s) to WDXT-140 adapter board.
If you have a WDXT-140, see Figure 1-2.
If you have a WDXT-150, see Figure 1-3.
Drive 1 Cable Installation
Attach the interface cable 40 pin connector fr om the fi rst drive t o J 1 on the adapt er board. Attach Pi n 1 of the cable connector to Pin 1 on the adapter board. See Figure 1-2.
Pin 1 of the cable connector is marked and is on the color coded edge of the cable. Pin 20 on the WDXT-140 board is keyed (pin missing). Do NOT force the cables and connectors.
