IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS
To prevent personal injury or property damage, read and follow all instructions and warnings.
When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed including the following:
Read all instructions, including these important safeguards and the care and use instructions in this manual.
To protect against electrical shock, do not put the cord, plug or the motor assembly in water or other liquid.
Close supervision is necessary when this appliance is used by or near children.
Unplug the appliance from outlet when not in use, before putting on or taking off
parts and before cleaning.
Do not operate this appliance with a damaged cord or plug, after the appliance malfunctions or if the appliance is dropped or damaged in any manner. If you experience any problems with your appliance, unplug it immediately from the electrical outlet. For service information see warranty page.
The use of accessory attachments, not recommended or sold by Focus Electrics may cause fire, electric shock or injury.
Do not use outdoors.
Do not let the cord hang over the edge of a table or counter or touch hot
surfaces.
Do not place on or near a hot gas or electrical burner or in a heated oven.
Do not use this appliance for other than its intended use.
Be sure to turn switch to “OFF” position after each use. This appliance does not
have an auto-off feature.
To disconnect, grip plug and pull from wall outlet. Never pull on cord to disconnect.
Never leave the house while the appliance is on.
Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs where provided. Use hot pads
or oven mitts when handling hot surfaces.
Allow the appliance to cool before putting on or taking off parts and before cleaning.
The carafe is designed for use with this appliance only. Do not use the carafe provided with this appliance for any other appliance or application.
Do not place carafe on hot surface or in a heated oven.
Do not put a hot carafe on a wet or cold surface.
Do not use a cracked carafe or a carafe having a loose or weakened handle.
2
To prevent personal injury or property damage, read and follow all instructions and warnings.
Do not clean carafe with cleansers, steel wool pads, or other abrasive materials.
Make sure glass carafe is in place when brewing coffee. If the glass carafe is not in place hot water or hot coffee will overflow.
Do not remove any part of the coffeemaker, other than carafe; during the brew cycle as scalding could occur.
The lid of the carafe must be in place and properly positioned on the coffee carafe during the brew process or hot water or hot coffee may overflow.
Always use the proper grind of coffee. Too fine of a grind could clog the filter and cause hot water or hot coffee to overflow.
A short power-supply cord is provided to reduce risks resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord.
Longer, detachable power-supply cords or extension cords are available and may be used if care is exercised in their use. While use of an extension cord is not recommended, if you must use one, the marked electrical rating of the detachable power-supply cord or extension cord should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance. If the appliance is of the grounded type, the extension cord should be a grounding-type 3-wire cord. The cord should be arranged so that it will not hang over the counter top or tabletop where it can be pulled by children or tripped over.
This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug is intended to fit into a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to modify the plug in any way.
For household use only.

SING YOUR WEST BEND® 12 CUP COFFEEMAKER
To use your West Bend® Coffeemaker, begin by assembling the appliance.
Reusable Nylon Filter
Removable Filter Basket
Water Reservoir
Shower Head
Glass Carafe
Water Level Indicator
Non-Stick Coated Warming Plate
ON/OFF Switch
WARNING: The coffeemaker will remain “ON” until turned “OFF.” Be sure to turn power off after each use and when carafe is empty.
1) Place the appliance on a clean, flat surface and plug into outlet. You can
adjust the length of the power cord so that it is the exact length you desire. a) To increase the length of the power cord: Grasp the power cord (not the
power plug) and gently lift it out of the slot, then pull the cord away from the coffeemaker.
b) To decrease the length of the power cord: Grasp the power cord, lift out of
the slot, and then feed cord into the coffeemaker opening. Place cord in the slot when finished.
2) Prior to first use, clean coffeemaker per instructions on page #6.
3) Remove carafe from appliance and fill with desired amount of cold water. Use
the easy measuring marks on carafe to ensure correct amount of water. Open top lid and pour water into the water reservoir.
4
Note: The amount of brewed coffee will always be less than the amount of water placed into water reservoir; coffee grounds and the filter will absorb approximately 10% of the water.
4) With the lid still open, turn shower head to the back and remove the filter basket.
Place filter in the filter basket. (Use quality disposable 8-12 cup filters or use reusable nylon filter provided.) Measure one tablespoon (level) of drip or regular grind coffee for each cup of coffee desired and place in filter. Be careful not to get any grounds on the filter basket.
5) Return filter basket to the appliance. Make sure filter basket tab fits into slot on
filter basket holder. Move the shower head toward front over the filter basket until shower head clicks into place. Close top lid of coffeemaker. Do not open lid during brewing cycle; leaving lid down preserves the coffee’s flavor and heat and prevents steam burns.
6) Replace glass carafe on warming plate.
7) Press the switch to “ON.” A blue light will illuminate during operation.
8) Upon completion of brew cycle, wait 1 minute before removing carafe from the
appliance to allow any remaining liquid to seep through.
9) Remove carafe and pour desired amount into cup(s). To keep coffee warm,
place the carafe back on the warming plate of coffeemaker.
WARNING: With the carafe off the appliance, the warming plate is exposed and HOT. Do not touch.
10) Wait 10 minutes before brewing a second pot of coffee. Turn appliance off
by pressing switch to “OFF;” the blue light will turn off.
11) This appliance does not turn off automatically. Switch power to “OFF” when
carafe is empty or when the appliance is not in use. Unplug from wall outlet.
Tips for general operation
To use Pause & Serve feature, remove carafe during brewing cycle and pour a
cup of coffee. Replace carafe on warming plate within 30 seconds to avoid overflow or possible injury.
For best results, always clean appliance after every use and use fresh, cold
water when brewing.
Finer grinds will produce a fuller extraction and provide a richer, full-bodied
coffee. Regular grinds will need more coffee per cup to produce the same coffee strength of a finer grind.
For stronger coffee, use more grounds; for weaker coffee, use less.
Grinding whole beans immediately before use will produce optimum coffee
flavor.
Store coffee in a cool, dry place to maintain freshness. Do not reuse coffee
grounds. This will impair the flavor of your coffee.

1. To clean, open top coffeemaker lid and pour 1 pint white vinegar into the water
reservoir.
2. Place filter in filter basket – do not add coffee. Move shower head toward front
over the filter basket until shower head clicks into place and close lid. Push the switch to “ON.” The blue light will illuminate.
3. Run white vinegar through one brewing cycle. Once brewing cycle is finished,
discard contents in carafe.
4. Remove carafe from the appliance and fill with 12 cups of cold water. Pour
water into the water reservoir and repeat the brewing cycle using a fresh disposable filter or clean reusable filter. Do NOT add coffee; use only clear water. Once brewing cycle is finished, switch appliance to “OFF,” unplug from the wall and discard contents in carafe.
5. Wash carafe and filter basket in warm, soapy water, rinse and dry. Rinse
reusable filter in warm water only. Replace in appliance.
