ideal resting periods are:
Rest for three minutes after each set for a muscle
• building workout. Rest for one minute after each set for a toning work-
• out.
• Rest for 30 seconds after each set for a weight loss workout.
Plan to spend the first couple of weeks familiarizing yourself with the equipment and learning the proper form for each exercise.
COOLING DOWN
End each workout with 5 to 10 minutes of stretching. Include stretches for both your arms and legs. Move
slowly as you stretch and do not bounce. Ease into each stretch gradually and go only as far as you can
ithout strain. Stretching at the end of each workout
w is an effective way to increase flexibility.
STAYING MOTIVATED
For motivation, keep a record of each workout. The chart on pages 33 and 34 of this manual can be photocopied and used to schedule and record your workouts. List the date, the exercises performed, the resistance used, and the numbers of sets and repetitions completed. Record your weight and key body measurements at the end of every month. Remember, the key to achieving the greatest results is to make exercise a regular and enjoyable part of your everyday life.
ASSEMBLY
Make Assembly Easier for Yourself
Everything in this manual is designed to ensure that the weight system can be assembled successfully by anyone. Before beginning assembly, make sure to read the information on this page. This brief introduction will save you much more time than it takes to read it.
Assembly Requires Two Persons
For your convenience and safety, assemble the weight system with the help of another person.
Make sure you have the following tools:
• Two adjustable wrenches
• One standard screwdriver
• One phillips screwdriver
• One rubber mallet
• You will also need grease or petroleum jelly, a small amount of soapy water, and clear tape or masking tape.
Note: Assembly will be more convenient if you have a socket set, a set of open-end or closed-end wrenches, or a set of ratchet wrenches.
Set Aside Enough Time
Due to the many features of the weight system, the assembly process will require several hours. By setting aside plenty of time and by deciding to make the task enjoyable, assembly will go smoothly. You may want to assemble the weight system over a couple of evenings.
How to Identify Parts
To help you identify the small parts used in assembly, we have included a P in the center of this manual. Place the chart on the floor and use it to easily identify parts during each assembly step. Note: Some small parts may have
been pre-attached. If a part is not in the parts bag, check to see if it has been pre-attached.
ART IDENTIFICATION CHART
Select a Location for the Weight System
Because of its weight and size, the weight system should be assembled in the location where it will be used. Make sure that there is enough room to walk around the weight system as you assemble it.
32
How to Unpack the Box
To make assembly as easy as possible, we have divided the assembly process into four stages. The parts needed for each stage are found in individual bags. Important: Wait until you begin each stage to open the parts bag for that stage. Place all parts of the weight system in a cleared area and remove the packing materials. Do not dispose of the packing materials until assembly is completed.
The Four Stages of the
Frame Assembly—You will begin by assembling
the base and the uprights that form the skeleton of the weight system.
Arm Assembly—During this stage you will assemble the arms and the leg lever.
Assembly Process
How to Orient Parts
As you assemble the weight system, make sure all parts are oriented exactly as shown in the drawings.
Tightening Parts
Tighten all parts as you assemble them, unless instructed to do otherwise.
Questions?
If you have questions after reading the assembly instructions, see the front cover of this manual
Cable Assembly—During this stage you will attach the cables and pulleys that connect the arms to the weights.
Seat Assembly—During the final stage you will assemble the seats and the backrests.

EXERCISE GUIDELINES
THE FOUR BASIC TYPES OF WORKOUTS
Muscle Building
o increase the size and strength of your muscles,
T push them close to their maximum capacity. Your muscles will adapt and grow as you progressively increase the intensity of your exercise. You can adjust the intensity level of an individual exercise in two ways:
• by changing the amount of weight used
• by changing the number of repetitions or sets performed. (A “repetition” is one complete cycle of an exercise, such as one sit-up. A “set” is a series of repetitions.)
The proper amount of weight for each exercise depends upon the individual user. You must gauge your limits and select the amount of weight that is right for you. Begin with 3 sets of 8 repetitions for each exercise you perform. Rest for 3 minutes after each set. When you can complete 3 sets of 12 repetitions without difficulty, increase the amount of weight.
PERSONALIZING YOUR EXERCISE PROGRAM
Determining the exact length of time for each workout,
s well as the number of repetitions or sets completed,
a is an individual matter. It is important to avoid overdoing it during the first few months of your exercise program. You should progress at your own pace and be sensitive to your body’s signals. If you experience pain or dizziness at any time while exercising, stop immediately and begin cooling down. Find out what is wrong before continuing. Remember that adequate rest and a proper diet are important factors in any exercise program.
WARMING UP
Begin each workout with 5 to 10 minutes of stretching and light exercise to warm up. Warming up prepares your body for more strenuous exercise by increasing circulation, raising your body temperature and delivering more oxygen to your muscles.
3. Insert two M8 x 75mm Carriage Bolts (84) up through the Rear Base (3). Note: It may be help-
ful to place a piece of tape over the bolt heads to hold them in place.

Toning
You can tone your muscles by pushing them to a moderate percentage of their capacity. Select a moderate amount of weight and increase the number of repetitions in each set. Complete as many sets of 15 to 20 repetitions as possible without discomfort. Rest for 1 minute after each set. Work your muscles by completing more sets rather than by using high amounts of weight.
Weight Loss
To lose weight, use a low amount of weight and increase the number of repetitions in each set. Exercise for 20 to 30 minutes, resting for a maximum of 30 seconds between sets.
Cross Training
Cross training is an ef well-balanced fitness program. An example of a balanced program is:
Plan strength training workouts on Monday,
• Wednesday, and Friday.
• Plan 20 to 30 minutes of aerobic exercise, such as running on a treadmill or riding on an exercise cycle or an elliptical exerciser
• Rest from both strength training and aerobic exercise for at least one full day each week to give your body time to regenerate.
The combination of strength training and aerobic exercise will reshape and strengthen your body, plus develop your heart and lungs.
ficient way to get a complete and
Tuesday and Thursday.
, on
WORKING OUT
Each workout should include 6 to 10 different exercises. Select exercises for every major muscle group, emphasizing areas that you want to develop most. To give balance and variety to your workouts, vary the exercises from session to session.
Schedule your workouts for the time of day when your energy level is the highest. Each workout should be followed by at least one day of rest. Once you find the schedule that is right for you, stick with it.
EXERCISE FORM
Maintaining proper form is an essential part of an effective exercise program. This requires moving through the full range of motion for each exercise, and moving only the appropriate parts of the body. Exercising in an uncontrolled manner will leave you feeling exhausted. On the exercise guide accompany ing this manual you will find photographs showing the correct form for several exercises, and a list of the muscles affected. See the muscle chart on the next page to find the names of the muscles.
The repetitions in each set should be performed smoothly and without pausing. The exertion stage of each repetition should last about half as long as the return stage. Proper breathing is important. Exhale during the exertion stage of each repetition and inhale during the return stroke. Never hold your breath.

MAINTENANCE
Make sure all parts are properly tightened each time the weight system is used. Replace any worn parts immediately. The weight system can be cleaned with a damp cloth and a mild, non-abrasive detergent. Do not use solvents.
IGHTENING THE CABLES
T
Woven cable, the type of cable used on the weight system, can stretch slightly when it is first used. If there is slack in the cables before resistance is felt, the cables should be tightened. To tighten the cables, first insert the weight pin into the middle of the weight stack. Slack can be removed from these cables several ways:

This section explains how to adjust the weight system. See the EXERCISE GUIDELINES on page 31 for important information about how to get the most benefit from your exercise program. Also, refer to the accompanying exercise guide to see the correct form for each exercise.
ake sure all parts are properly tightened each time the weight system is used. Replace any worn parts immediate-
M ly. The weight system can be cleaned with a damp cloth and a mild, non-abrasive detergent. Do not use solvents.
CHANGING THE WEIGHT SETTING
To change the setting of the weight stack, insert the Weight Pin (119) under the desired Weight (35). Insert the Weight Pin so that the bent end touches the weight stack. Turn the bent end down.
ful not to scratch yourself when reaching through the hole in a Front Shroud (15, 143). Do not use a Top Weight (34, not shown) by itself.
Note: Due to the cables and pulleys, the amount of resistance at each exercise station may vary from the weight setting. Use the WEIGHT RESISTANCE CHART on page 27 to find the approximate amount of resistance at each weight station.
ATTACHING THE ACCESSORIES TO A PULLEY STATION
Attach the Handle (78) to the Leg Lever Cable (70) at the low pulley station with a Cable Clip (103). For some exercises, the Chain (110) should be attached between the Handle and the Cable with two Cable Clips. Adjust the length of the Chain between the
Handle and the Cable so that the Handle is in the correct starting position for the exercise to be performed.
The Lat Bar (not shown), the the Handle (78) can be attached at any pulley station in the same manner. Always engage the lock plate when using the low pulley station (see USING THE LOCK PLATE below).
