Important Information about LPGas & Gas Connections
What Is LP Gas?
Liquefied petroleum gas, also called LP, LP gas, liquid propane, or simply propane or butane, is the flammable, petroleum-based product used to fuel your grill. It is a gas at moderate temperatures and pressure when it is not contained. But at moderate pressure inside a container, such as a tank, LP is a liquid. As pressure is released from the tank, the liquid readily vaporizes and becomes gas.
Safe Handling Tips For LP Tanks
Getting Started
• A dented or rusty liquid propane tank may be hazardous and should be checked by your liquid propane supplier. Donot use a liquid propane tank with a damaged valve.
• Although your liquid propane tank may appear to be empty, gas may still be present, and the tank should be transported and stored accordingly.
• The LP tank must be installed, transported, and stored in an upright, secure position. LP tanks should not be dropped or handled roughly.
• Never store or transport the LP tank where temperatures can reach 125° F (51.7° C) (the tank will become too hot to hold by hand).
• Place dust cap on cylinder valve outlet whenever the cylinder is not in use. Only install the type of dust cap on the cylinder valve outlet that is provided with the cylinder valve. Other types of caps or plugs may result in leakage of propane.
LP Tank Requirements
• The tank must be approximately 18¼inches (46.35 cm) high and 12¼ inches (31.1 cm) in diameter with a marked 20 pound (9.07 kg) LP capacity or 47.6 pound (21.6 kg) water capacity as stated by the manufacturer. Other tanks may be acceptable provided they are compatible with the grill retention means (tank scale).
• The tank used must be constructed and marked in accordance with the Specifications for LP gas Cylinders of the U.S. Department of Transportation (D.O.T.); or the Canadian Standard for Cylinders, Spheres and Tubes for Transportation of Dangerous Goods and Commission, CAN/ CSA-B339, as applicable.
• Tanks must be provided with a listed OPD (Overfilling Prevention Device) and a Type 1 (CGA 791) tank connection. The tank connection must be compatible with the grill connection.
• The tank must include a collar to protect the tank valve.
• Tanks must have a D.O.T. certification (A), and a testing date (B) that is within five years of current use.
LP Tank Installation
Installation Location
The tank is hung onto the tank hook which is located inside the cabinet. The shape of the collar assembly (the metal protective ring around the tank valve) determines one of two directions in which the tank will correctly hang on the tank hook (A).
Inspect the Tank
1) Confirm that t he tank valv e is fully closed. Close by turning valve clockwise.
2) In spect th e tank valve , including the internal rubber seal for damage or deb ris (B). If damaged, return tank to local r etailer.
3) Confirm that t he tank valv e is the prop er mating t ype for the re gulator (C).
Install The Tank
Check that all burner control k nobs are in the o positi on. Check by pushing in and turning knobs clockwise.
1) Locate the m etal hose r etention clip on the re gulator hose. Secure the clip into the slot on the unde rside of the tank s cale(D).
2) Loosen hand nut and rotate tank lock up.
3) Lift tank into position onto the ho ok on the tank scale.
4) Rotate the tank lock down. Tighten th e hand nut.
5) Screw the re gulator co upling onto the tank valve, turning clockwise. Hand-tighten only. Using a w rench could damage the regulator coupling and c ould cause a leak. Proceed to “CHECKIN G FOR GASLE AKS.”

Refilling or Replacing an LPTank
How Much Fuel is in the Tank?
This feature is only availab le on select m odels.
The tank scale indicates the amount of fuel in a standard 20 pound (9.07 kg) tank once the tank is hung from the scale. The fuel le vel is checked by viewing the indicator line loc ated on the s cale inside of the cabinet. Some model s include an indicator on the front o f the grill . The indicator points to a full tank (A), and gradually m oves to indica te when the t ank is empt y (B) and needs to be remove d to replace or refill .
Removal of the LP Tank
1) Make sure the gr ill is o and co ol.
2) Confirm that t he tank valv e is fully closed. Close by turning valve clockwise.
3) Un screw regulator co upling by turning counterclockwise by hand.
4) On the tank scale, loosen hand nut and rotate tank lock up.
5) Lift tank o tank hook .

What is a Regulator?
Your gas grill is equipped with a pressure regulator, which is a device to control and maintain uniform gas pressure as gas is released from the LP tank.
Regulator Requirements
• Each WEBER pressure regulator is designed for vapor withdrawal. Cylinder must be upright when grill is in use.
• The regulator and hose assembly supplied with this grill must be used. This regulator has a flow limiting device built into the unit that will restrict the flow of gas in the event that a leak is detected.
• Replacement regulator and hose assemblies must be as specified by Weber-Stephen Products LLC (UL-listed Type 1 (CGA 791) tank connection device as described in the latest edition of ANSI Z21.81).

m DANGER: Do not line the slide-out grease tray or
cookbox with aluminum foil.
m DANGER: Check the slide-out grease tray and
catch pan for grease build-up before each use. Remove excess grease to avoid a grease fire.
m WARNING: Use caution when removing catch pan
and disposing of hot grease.
m WARNING: Use heat-resistant barbecue mitts or
gloves when operating grill.
m WARNING: Grill brushes should be checked for
loose bristles and excessive wear on a regular basis. Replace brush if any loose bristles are found on cooking grates or brush. WEBER recommends purchasing a new stainless steel bristle grill brush at the beginning of every spring.
m WARNING: Keep ventilation openings around tank
clear and free of debris.
m WARNING: The hose must be secured with the
Hose Retention Clip. Failure to do so could cause damage to the hose resulting in a fire or explosion which can cause serious bodily injury or death, and damage to property.
m WARNING: Keep any electrical supply cord and the
fuel supply hose away from heated surfaces.

LeakChecking
What is a Leak Check?
Once the LP tank is properly installed, it is necessary to perform a leak check. A leak check is a reliable way to verif y that gas is not escaping after you connect the tank. T he fuel sy stem in your grill features factory- made connections tha t have been thoroughly checked for gas leaks an d the burners have been flame-tested. WEBER recommen ds perf orming a thorough leak check after assembly, as well as annually. The following fitt ings should be tested:
• Where the regulator connects to the tank.
• Where the gas hose connects to the bulkhead.
• Where the bulkhead connects to the corrugated gas line.
Checking for Gas Leaks
1) Wet fittings (A) with a soap and water solut ion, using a spray bottle, br ush, or ra g. You can make your own soap and w ater solution by mixing 20% liquid soap with 80% water ; or, you can purchase leak ch eck solution in the plumb ing sect ion of any hardware store.
2) Slowly open ga s supply by turning tank valve counterclockwise while checking for bubbles.
3) If bubbles ap pear ther e is a leak:
a) If the leak is at the c ylinder (B), turn o the gas.
DONOT OPERATE THE GRILL. Disconnec t the tank and return the tank to your local r etailer.
b) If the leak is at the regulator (C), turn o the gas.
NEVE R ATTEMP T TO TIGHTEN THE REGULATOR WITH TANK VALVE OPEN. DO NOT OPERATE THE GRILL . Contact the Customer Service Representative in your are a using the contact information on our website.
c) If the leak is at any fittings indicate d in illustr ation
(D), re-tighten fitting with a wrench and re check for leaks with soap and w ater solution. If leak persists, turn o th e gas. DO NOT OPERATE THE GRILL.
d) If the leak is at any fittings indicate d in illustr ation
(E), turn o the gas. DO NO T OPERATE T HE GRILL .
If a leak is present, c ontact the Customer Service
Repres entative in your area using the contact information on our website.
4) If bubbles do not appear, leak checking is complete:
a) Turn gas sup ply o at the tank and rins e connec tions
with water.

Using the Top-Down Infrared Broiler
Top-down infrared broiler directs blazing high heat onto the top of meat, searing the surface evenly and creating an edge-toedge caramelized crust with juicy insides. As the heat comes from above, grease flows downward, minimizing flare ups. The broiler is thoughtfully sized to fit two New York strip or four filet mignon steaks perfectly, and the cooking grate below it adjusts to accommodate larger cuts of meat, casseroles, créme brûlée, and more.
1) Open the lid . Using heat- resistant barbe cue gloves, adjust the level of th e upper cooking sur face to one of the three positions (A).
2) P ush in the infrared broiler contr ol knob. Slowly turn it counte rclockwise toward the ignite until you hear tickin g. Once ticking star ts, hold the knob in that position for 1-2 secon ds. Continue turning knob counterclockwise, stopping halfway between the igni te and high heat position (B). Hold dow n the knob in this position for 20 – 30 seconds as the burner ignite s and establishes a continuous flow of gas across the surface of the infrared broiler. Once the infra red broil er is glowing orange, then it is ignited. Now turn the control knob to desired heat level and release the knob.
3) Ke ep the lid open while using the infrared broiler in the high heat s etting for searin g (C). Use the inf rared broiler on the low heat setting for rotisserie/ke ep warm.

Cleaning and Maintenance
Cleaning the Inside of the Grill
Over time, the per formance of your grill can diminish if it has not b een maintained prop erly. Low temperatur es, uneven heat, and fo od sticking to cooking grates are all signs that cleaning an d maintenance are overdue. When your grill is o and cool, star t by cleaning the inside, from the top down. A thoro ugh cleanin g is recommended at least t wice a year. Con sistent us e may requir e quarterly cleanings.
Cleaning the Lid and the Upper Cooking Surfaces
From time to time you may notice “paint- like” flakes on the inside of the lid. D uring use, grease and smoke vapors slowly change into carbon and de posit on th e inside of your lid. These deposits w ill eventually peel , and looks very similar to paint. These deposit s are non- toxic, but the flakes co uld fall onto your food if you do not clean the lid regularly.
1) Brush the carbonized grease fr om the inside of the lid

and upper surfaces with a stainless s teel bristle grill brush (A). To minimize further build-up, the insid e of the lid can be wiped w ith a paper towel after grilling while the grill is still warm (noth ot).
IMPORTANT: Do not brush the ceramic sur face of the infrared br oi le r.
Cleaning the Cooking Grates
Cleaned grates will prevent your next meal from sticking. If you are cleaning your c ooking gr ates regularly, the debris on your grates will be minimal.
1) W ith grates installed, brush t he debris o your cook ing grate with a stainle ss steel b ristle grill brush (B).
2) Take the grates out and set aside.
Cleaning the FLAVORIZERBARS
FLAVORIZER BARS catch drippings that smoke and sizzle, adding fl avor to your f ood. Any drippings t hat are not vaporized by the FLAVORIZER BARS are f unneled away from the burners . This helps prevent fl are-ups inside of your grill, and protects th e burners from get ting clogged.
1) Scrape the F LAVORIZER BARS with a plasti c scraper (C).
2) If necess ary, brush the FLAVORIZER BAR S with a stainless steel bristle grill brush.
3) Remove FLAVORIZER BA RS and set aside.

Two areas on the burners that are key to optimum perf ormance are the por ts (small raised op enings running along the length of th e burners) and the spider/insec t screens on the ends o f the burner. Keeping these areas clean is essential for safe ope ration.
Cleaning the Burner Ports
1) Us e a clean stainless steel bristle grill br ush to clean the out side of the burners by b rushing across the top of the burner ports (D).
2) When cleaning the burners, avoi d damaging the ignition electrode by car efully br ushing around it.
Cleaning the Spider Screens
1) Locate the ends of the bur ners on th e underside of the control panel where they mee t the valves.
2) Clean the spider/insect screens o n each of the burners using a soft bristle brush (E).
Cleaning the Heat Deflectors
Located under the burners , the heat deflector s distribute heat evenly throughout the co okbox while cooking. Keeping heat defle ctors cle an will enhance the cooking perf ormance of your grill .
1) Scrape the h eat deflectors wit h a plastic scraper.
2) If necess ary, brush the heat deflectors with a stainless steel bristle gr ill brush .
3) Remove heat deflector s and set asi de.
Cleaning the Cookbox
Look inside the cookbox for any grease accumulation or leftover food particle s. Exce ssive accumulation can cause a fire.
1) Us e a plastic scraper to scrape debris o the sides and botto m of the grill into the opening in bottom of the cookb ox. This op ening leads debris into the slide-out grease tray.
