HEATKILLER® GPU-X³ 5970

The unique design of the HEATKILLER® GPU-X³ 5970 guarantees outstanding performance. A cooling
performance in the range of current high-end CPU coolers, a flat design as well as top quality materials
distinguish the new GPU-X³ series.
The bottom plate consists of pure copper. The cooling structure of the GPU is extremely fine-tuned and offers a
higher performance than most CPU coolers. The thin base ensures even more performance.

By disassembling the original cooler you may cause the manufacturer´s warranty to become void, if
uncertain contact the manufacturer of the Graphic card.

Preparation of the Graphic card

Remove the original cooler element as well as all remnants of Heat-conductive pads.
The pre-cut Pads are now, as shown in the diagram to be applied to the Graphic card.In general a protective

plastic film is applied to both sides of the pads, these must be removed prior to assembly.
The assembly package is numbered accordingly. Pay attention to apply the correct Pads to the components.
No.1 – Heat-conductive pad 0,25mm high
No.2 – Heat-conductive pad 0,50mm high
No.3 – Heat-conductive pad 0,75mm high
Instead of the Heat-conductive pad a non conductive thermal compound can be used, we recommends however
the use of the enclosed Pads.
The GPU area should be spread evenly with a thermal compound.

Assembly of the cooler

Place the cooler on the prepared Graphic card and then flip both over. Supplied with the cooler are two types of
screws.
No.4 - 8x screws M3x 8mm (for the GPU-Area)
No.5 - 5x screws M3x10mm (for the backplate)
Begin with the GPU area (see diagram) now screw the (No.4) screws using the supplied plastic washers into the
cooler.The screws are not to be tightened yet.

Now the Backplate can be attached to the underside of the card. The Backplate is fastened with the screws
(No.5) without washers. The screws should also not be tightened yet.

Now the screws within the GPU area can be tightened in
a crosswise fashion.
The remaining screws in the Backplate can now be tightened.

We generally recommend assembly with the Backplate.
If the cooler is to be installed without the Backplate, use 8mm screws (identical to the GPU) instead of the 10mm.

Installation and leak test

After the installation, a check and test run must be performed! The coolers are constructed on the reference
design, still, all sections of the board have to be checked for possible contact to the cooler. In addition, the contact
of the GPU to the cooler must be checked along with the bending of the board. A slight bending of the board is
normal.
A leak test should preferably be performed outside of the computer. If this is not possible, the hardware may not
be turned on during the test run!
Once all of the cooler elements were tested, the computer can be put into operation. Check the temperature of
the GPU immediately after the start!

General information

The HEATKILLER® GPU-X³ 5970 does not have a defined input and output. The cooling medium can stream in
or our on both sides.
Under normal circumstances it is not necessary to open the cooler. If you still want to do so, please use a
corresponding tool for Allen screws in industrial quality.
We recommend using demineralised or deionised water (distilled water) as cooling medium. To prevent the build­up of algae, use common citric acid, which reliably prevents the spread of algae.
The cooler is fully crossfire-suited. To sett up a dual or triple crossfire system, we offer special connectors that
make connection of the coolers extremely easy.
