Once you have evaluated your Wander Control Systems,
Inc. equipment components and recommendations for
wire and tools, it is time to make a decision.
For installations in new construction locations or where
wire will be run in the ceilings or walls and will not be
exposed, it may be best to measure and run the wire
before mounting the equipment on the wall.
For installations in existing locations with drop ceilings
and where products such as Wiremold or Raceway are
planned to be used to conceal wire, it may be more
beneficial to mount the equipment on
the walls and then run the wires.
Overview
The KP-1, KP-2, and EscortR are remote access panels. KP-1 ~ a keypad designed for inside use to be placed on the opposite side of the wall
from the main door controller KP-2 ~ a keypad with a weather resistant cover designed for outside use to be placed
on the opposite side of the wall from the main door controller EscortR ~ a heavy duty remote push button switch which allows remote access with a
lower level of security than a keypad. EscortR is always used inside the building and is appropriate where human supervision is present such as a reception area or employee only area.
Recommendations
Wire Sizes (Suggested)
It is recommended to use 18-4 AWG stranded, PVC coated, low-voltage wire from each door controller to each KP-1/KP-2 or EscortR remote access panel.
Tools (Suggested minimum)
Screw Drivers (Flat & Phillips) Wire Strippers Drill, Drill Bits Volt Meter Wire Cutters

Mounting
1) The remote access panel which has been chosen for this location is to be mounted beside the door on the opposite side of the wall from the door controller (Platinum 3, Platinum 3B, or Sentry).
2) Mount the remote access panel close to the door in a convenient location at approximately 4 ½ feet from the floor. Mark a precise location for mounting and drill through the wall.
(If necessary, wires may be run through a Wiremold channel mounted vertically, but an access hole must be drilled through the top of the surface mount box.)
4) Screw surface mount box (backbox) to the wall. (The backbox must be securely attached to the wall).
5) After the backbox has been securely fastened to the wall you may pull the wires to the box from the door controller.
Set-up Connections
KP-1 & KP-2
There are 3 wires used on the KP-1 & KP-2. The colors and functions are as follows:
Red - Positive Power (6 – 12VDC) Black - Common Ground Green - Output
We recommended that you use 18 - 4 stranded wire
because you need to run three wires from the
Platinum 3, Platinum 3B or Sentry control unit out to
the KP-1or KP-2 remote access panel.
Connect the three wires from the controller to the KP-1 or KP-2 remote access panels as follows:
KP-1 & KP-2 Platinum 3, Platinum 3B or Sentry Controllers
Red J5 – Pin 1 – +12VDC Black J5 – Pin 2 – Ground Green J3 – Pin 2 – Escort Trigger In
Platinum 3, Platinum 3B, or Sentry controller J3 Pin 1 is NOT
used in connecting a remote access panel.

EscortR
Run wires from J3 Pins 1 & 2 on the Platinum 3, Platinum 3B, or Sentry control unit to the EscortR remote access panel.
FAQs
How do I change the code on KP-1 and KP-2?
1) Pull the circuit board free from the keypad. On the board you will see five wires and a plastic strip with holes that are labeled ABCDE and 0123456789.
2) Escort code used on KP-1 or KP-2 must match code used on Platinum 3, Platinum 3B, or Sentry controller.
3) Connect wire from hole A to appropriate hole for first numeral of escort code.
4) Repeat with wire from hole B to appropriate hole for second numeral of escort code. Repeat with wires C, D, & E as necessary.
Can I use repeat digits in my code? No, unique digits only (i.e., 12345). Do not use
the same numeral twice in your escort code. Do NOT use the numeral 9 in
your code.
If you change the escort code on the main door controller (Platinum 3, Platinum 3B, or Sentry) you must also change the escort code on the opposite side keypad (KP-1 or KP-2).
