How many fuzzes have you been through? I mean, how many have you tried but been
frustrated that they don’t sound spluttery enough, or not thick enough, or not enough
articulation? How many have had a sterile octave, or one that only sits after the fuzz, or
doesn’t work on it’s own? How many times has your fuzz got TOTALLY lost in the mix,
how many times have you wished you could make it punch through by giving it some
more mids… or more top… or even MORE bass? If you are like us, this has happened to
you a lot. It’s so frustrating. Well, not anymore. The fuzztration ends that frustration by
giving you everything you want, in one box.
The road to fuzz heaven starts with those vintage pedals that we all love, but suck when
used with a buffer meaning they can only go in certain places in your chain. Or ones that
just don’t have enough EQ options. The Fuzztration plays well with buffers and can be
sculpted to punch through your mix, or destroy your mix, or sit anywhere inbetween. If
you want to control your vintage sounds in a modern way, here it is.
Here’s how it started. We love the Velvet Fuzz. It was a great foundation for us to build
one. So, the first thing we did was make sure it sounds NOTHING like that! This is not a
deluxe version, this is a new monster to the Wampler line. You have two VERY distinct
voicings, one can be a little bit like it’s been muffled, the other more open and destructive. You get all the compression and all the open flubbiness you want from your favorite
fuzzes. It’s good bye separate fuzzes and hello Fuzztration. And that’s before we get into
the octave as that’s where the fun really starts… you can get pure octave and crazy
noises, just flip that position switch and change your playing attack… it’s like a different
effect!
Before you start digging into this monster, you’ll want to take a moment to get comfy
and realese it’s really simple. The Fuzztration features 5 knobs: Volume, gain, bass, mids
and treble - and a couple of switches: Octave and Tone Voice. Two stomps, one for fuzz
bypass and one for ocatve postition gives you full control - The tone voice is simple,
tight it really, well tight and open is... yes, you guessed it, WIDE open and splutterty. The
octave position puts the independent octave either pre or post fuzz, so explore that one,
see what different noises you can get out of it!
We'll go over each control in detail below just in the way of a heads up and we’ll even
offer some suggestions that will give you a great starting point. Just remember, in the
words of Brian himself, “Don’t use the suggested settings”, so… we dare you, don’t try
them… just lean in and try it for yourself!

Bypass Switch – Simple enough, a relay based soft switch that will turn on the pedal, it
also turns it off - if you really want to.
Octave Switch - You might have guessed what this is for... YES! It turns the octave on and
off, you can use it on it’s own, it’s not just for use when you are all fuzzed up!
Volume – Consider this the LOUD knob. The more you turn it, the more you loud you get.
We think most guitars will achieve volume unity at about 12 o’clock, but yours may be
slightly different - find the place that suits you.
Bass – Straight up at noon is unity. From there you can either add some low end in or take
it away. This active control will fatten your tone right up or when you bleed it out make
your tone as cutting through the mix as you can.
Mids - This is the secret weapon on your Fuzztration. Fuzz can get lost in the mix, use this
to make sure it cuts through... everything exists in the midrange!
Treble – High end… find the balance with the bass and mids control with this, balance that
tone.
FUZZ - It’s a big knob, it’s where the brutality lives. Turn it up, melt some faces, take no
prisoners.
Suggested Settings
Screaming high gain!
Clean and clear booster
Octave Position – You can easily put your octave before or after the main fuzz circuit...
you’ll be amazed at how different the sound and the reaction is... play with this a lot, it’s
Classic Vintage Rock
Treble Boosting - cut through the mix
just awesome!
Tone Voice - In the left, you can say it’s a bittled ‘muff’led. On the right, there are more
diodes, giving more agression and much more in the way of ‘angry’. This is the heart of the
monster...
