Votronic D+ Simulator Installation And Operating Manual

Installation and Operating Manual
D+ Simulator No. 3066
The VOTRONIC D+ Simulator is applied for detection of the charging data in a 12 V board mains.
Whenever it is required that additional consumers shall only be switched-on, if the dynamo supplies current and the motor is running, or if simultaneous supply of the board battery is required by interconnection of board and starter battery over a cutoff relay, the D+ contact of the dynamo will be used for determination of the charging mode of a dynamo.
If the D+ contact is not accessible, or even not existing, as it is the case for later dynamos, the VOTRONIC D+ Simulator produces this signal by supervision of the starter battery, which is connected to the dynamo.
Note: This device is not suitable for use with Euro-6 vehicles. The generator management system in
Euro-6 vehicles does not allow the start battery voltage to be connected to a running or stopped motor.
Please read this operating and installation manual thoroughly prior to connection and start-up.
The VOTRONIC D-Simulator works automatically and maintenance-free and offers the following functions:
Low own consumption Display at D+ “ON” by LED Terminal (output): Possibility to connect a power relay with holding current of max. 1.0 A (+ switching, overload-
proof and short circuit-proof).
Switching delay approx. 4 seconds, avoiding control errors in case of voltage drops With the tendency of oscillation, automatic prolongation of the cut-off delay up to 90 seconds
The charging mode is recognized due to an intelligent voltage evaluation of the battery, which is connected to the dynamo. So, it is possible to energize a topped battery cut-off relay, to recharge the board battery with running motor.
Further application possibilities are resulting for control of additional consumers, which shall only be activated, if the battery had been charged sufficiently. An example is the start of the air-conditioning system during driving or the activation of fans for interior ventilation.
A continuously lighting LED (light-emitting diode) indicates that the control output had been activated. Thus, recharging of the starter battery can be supervised. Furthermore, the D+ Simulator can be used for remote charging control by simply connecting the terminal to a display (12 V lamp).
Installation:
The VOTRONIC D+ Simulator can be operated at any location being protected from humidity. Any fitting position is possible. Install the upper housing prior to the final installation of the unit The cable feed is possible either at the lateral lower edge of the housing or at the housing bottom (invisible).

Connection:
The 3-pole plug-in terminal screw can be withdrawn to facilitate connection. A largely unfalsified voltage measurement of the starter battery must be allowed to the VOTRONIC D+ Simulator.
Therefore: Preferably lay separate cables (+ / -) directly from the battery to the unit, or choose cables, which are subjected to only a slight load of other consumers to avoid malfunctions.
The remaining interior space of the housing can be used for surplus connection cable.
If a consumer shall be connected at the terminal, which exceeds the current consumption of 1.0 A, it can be switched by means of an interconnected relay.
Start-up:
After connection of the battery the following will happen:
1. The LED “Power” will be lighting momentarily (equipment-on check).
2. The terminal will be activated for a short moment (test).
Function:
Activation Terminal: If the battery voltage exceeds 13.7 V during charging, the terminal will be activated after
4 seconds.
Deactivation: If the battery voltage drops below 13.0 V after the end of the charging process, the terminal
will be deactivated after 4 seconds.
Oscillation Suppression: If the battery voltage drops quickly and repeatedly due to connection of a large consumer,
the VOTRONIC D+ Simulator extends the disconnecting time to up to 90 seconds. By this, quick activation and deactivation (swinging) of the consumer is avoided.
If the battery voltage drops further to below 12.3 V during these 90 seconds, the terminal
will be switched-off after 4 seconds nevertheless.
Pilot Lamps:
„Power“: If it is flashing: Terminal switched-off (D+ signal off), stand-by
If it is lighting: Terminal activated (D+ signal on)
Further actions at the unit are not required during normal automatic mode.

Declaration of Conformity:
In accordance with the provisions of Directives 2014/35/EU, 2014/30/EU, 2009/19/EC, this product complies with the following standards or normative documents: EN55014-1; EN55022 B; EN61000-6-1; EN61000-4-2; EN61000-4-3; EN61000-4-4; EN62368-1; EN50498.
The product must not be disposed of in the household waste.
The product is RoHS compliant. It complies with the directive 2011/65/EU for Reduction of Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment.
Safety Regulations:
Appropriate Application:
The VOTRONIC D+ Simulator has been designed according to the valid safety regulations.
Appropriate application is restricted to:
1. Installation of the indicated fuses near the battery to protect the cabling of the unit. Technically faultless
condition.
3. Installation in a well-ventilated room, protected from rain, humidity, dust, aggressive battery gas, as well as
in an environment being free from condensation water.
Never use the unit at locations where the risk of gas or dust explosion exists!
Open-air operation of the unit is not allowed. Never lay 12 V (24 V) cables and 230 V mains supply cables into the same cable conduit (empty conduit). Check live cables or leads periodically for insulation faults, points of break or loosened connections. Occurring
defects must be remedied immediately.
The unit is to be disconnected from any connection prior to execution of electrically welding or work on the
electric system.
If the non-commercial end-user is not able to recognize the characteristic values being valid for a unit or the
regulations to be observed, a specialist is always to be consulted.
The user/buyer is obliged to observe any construction and safety regulations. The unit is not equipped with parts, which can be replaced by the user. Keep children away from batteries and connections. Observe the safety regulations of the battery manufacturer. Ventilate the battery room. Non-observance may result in injury or material damage. The warranty period is 36 months from the purchase date (against presentation of the sales slip or invoice). The warranty will be void in case of any inappropriate utilisation of the unit, if it is used beyond the technical
specification, in case of improper operation or external intervention. We do not assume any liability for any damage resulting hereof. The liability exclusion is extended to any service being executed by third, which has not been ordered by us in writing. Service is to be effected exclusively by VOTRONIC Lauterbach.
