The Von Schweikert Audio VR-S/1
High-Speed Subwoofer was
designed to react as quickly as any
main speaker on the market, with the
lowest levels of distortion and
hangover, enabling the VR-S/1 to
completely integrate with your
system.
The VR-S/1’s high speed and low
distortion was achieved by
engineering a very specialized
woofer combined with an amplifier
that is pre-programmed with the
required response target.
As an extra benefit, the cabinet size
has been greatly reduced with our
new technology, allowing a wider
range of set up possibilities.

Spectacular Subwoofer,
Unparalleled Value….
Fast, clean sound requires a very stiff
cone that cannot flex and add distortion,
a very powerful motor, and a suspension
system that will not allow the woofer to
continue ringing after the note has
ended. We have selected a very strong
carbon-fiber impregnated resin cone,
driven by a 70mm voice coil, with a 15
pound magnetic assembly, fixed by an
extremely stiff suspension for
mechanical braking, all being capable of
1.5” peak-to-peak excursion. In short,
this is a beefy driver that can provide
very high volume levels of extremely
clean sound!
To enable very high output levels at low
frequencies, we specified a High-
Current amplifier with 300 watt r.m.s.
and 600-watt peaks. The design is a
push-pull Darlington circuit with high
bias into Class A operation in the
preamp stage; to eliminate distortion on
peaks, a High Current power supply
with 1KV transformer is utilized.
Electronic pre-equalization allows for
smooth bass response down to 20Hz,
while maintaining small air volume.
The cabinet is composed of 25mm MDF
with shelf-bracing at the midpoint,
eliminating resonance and coloration.
Cavity resonance is eliminated through
the use of Dacron with 100% stuffing
density. Two-inch tall floor spikes
elevate the downfiring off the floor,
enabling 360 degree dispersion, which
helps reduce standing waves by
providing differing path lengths to the
room boundaries. If placed in a wall
unit, place the VR-S/1 on its side.

Cabinet Design: Sealed enclosure with 25mm
MDF walls, using shelf bracing to eliminate
cabinet resonance and coloration; cavity
resonance is eliminated using 100% Dacron
stuffing.
Woofer: 10” Extreme-Duty driver with stiff
cone formed from carbon fiber impregnated
plastic resin, which is suspended by a doublethick butyl rubber surround with long-throw
design (1.5” peak-to-peak excursion potential).
The 70 mm voice coil is aligned in the gap with
a double-thick spider and is driven by a 15lb.
magnet assembly to provide an extremely high
Force Factor. Stiff suspension prevents
oscillation and overhang. Power handling is
enhanced by rear vented design and high
temperature voice coil wire, enabling 600-watt
peak program material.
Amplifier: High-Current design with
Darlington push-pull circuit and 1KV regulated
power supply. High bias Class A operation in
the preamp section, Class AB output section.
A.C. power is switchable between 117V and
230V. CE approved for Europe. Removable
IEC heavy-duty power cord, auto shutoff with
green/red LED.
Output Power: 300 watts rms. 600 watts peak.
Distortion: Less than 0.8% at full output.
