VR-9SE
Our flagship VR-11SE is a large speaker by anyone’s standards, being over seven feet tall and weighing about 900 pounds per side. Using four 1,000-watt subwoofer amplifiers and 24 drivers per system, it is easy to see why many audio critics have called the VR-11SE “the best speaker in the world”, with a bandwidth of 10 Hz to 100 kHz, incredibly low distortion, and 99dB sensitivity. Many of our customers wanted this type of sound in their studios and living rooms, but needed a smaller version that would accommodate space limitations for both acoustics and aesthetics.
Our response was to develop the VR-9SE. The VR9SE has the same bandwidth and transparency of the larger sibling, but in a smaller and very attractive package. How is this done? The solution was simple. The VR-9SE represents exactly one half of the VR-11SE. All of the components and voicing is identical to that of the larger flagship, just cut in half. While this smaller version does not carry 99dB of sensitivity, it still holds its own as a 96dB loudspeaker, which by most standards produces a very dynamic presentation in just about any audio system.
A two-piece stacked and time-aligned design, each VR-9SE consists of a 1,000-watt powered 15” sealed subwoofer, twin 9” magnesium-coned midbass drivers, a 7” Aerogel midrange, a 1.5” dual concentric ring Revelator tweeter, and a 5” aluminum pure ribbon super tweeter. When combined with Low Distortion Motor assemblies and the highest quality crossover circuitry available, this transducer array produces the finest and most lifelike musical presentation available. Indeed, the VR-9SE represents true sonic nirvana for those who desire the very best.
If these qualities are your personal “Holy Grail” and music is an important part of your life, the VR-9 Special Edition is for you! Our award-winning technology has been praised by many esteemed reviewers such as Robert Harley of Stereophile, Harry Pearson of the Absolute Sound, Greg Weaver and Clement Perry of Stereo Times, Rick Becker of Enjoy the Music, and Paul Bolin and John Atkinson of Stereophile. Famous clients include Alan Menken, winner of seven Academy Awards for film scores; Herb Alpert of A&M Records; MTV Studios; Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs; JVC of America, Hollywood video screening room; Sheffield Sound Labs; Stan Ricker Mastering; Chris Huston, recording engineer for Led Zeppelin, The Who, Young Rascals, Pattie La Belle, etc; Blueport Records and more than 40 professional recording studios around the world.
The VR-9SE utilizes our proprietary Acoustic Inverse Replication (A.I.R.) technology, developed by Albert Von Schweikert while at California Institute of Technology. A.I.R. employs our famous Global Axis Integration Network to enable our VR9SE to replicate the inverse of the recording microphone signal, thus decoding the dimensionality of the actual recorded event. In combination with our rear-firing Ambience Retrieval System, the VR-9SE will provide thrilling realism, so close to a live performance, that you will continue to ask yourself: “Is it Live or is it VR- 9?”

Specifications
System Type: Dynamic-driver six-way system using acoustic suspension and a two-piece stacked enclosure system; adaptive room correction supplied for accurate sound in any environment.
Woofer Tuning: Acoustic suspension design yielding the tightest mid-bass and sub-bass reproduction possible, without the added problem of “one note bass”, often associated with vented designs. Large subwoofer cabinet design enables accurate sub-bass reproduction down to 13Hz. Onboard high power amplification allows for incredible dynamic range, as well as customtailoring adjustments for varying room conditions.
Cabinet and Bracing: A two-inch thick front baffle, sidewalls, and rear baffle provides exceptional vibration control and image solidity, while one-inch HDF interlocking braces provide exceptional rigidity and freedom from boxy colorations. The internal damping consists of thick acoustic felt lining, foam, and Dacron stuffing to eliminate cavity resonances. Large locking casters are provided for ease of movement.
Size: Height: 50”, Width Front: 11”, Width Rear: 18”, Depth: 30”.
Weight: Woofer module: 255 lbs each, M/T module: 95 lbs., System: 350 lbs. each tower.
Driver Complement (per side): (1)-15" KevlarNomex honeycomb subwoofer, (2)-8.5” magnesium mid-basses, (1)-7” carbon Kevlar-cellulose Aerogel midrange driver, (1)-1.5” silk dual-concentric ring Revelator tweeter, (1)-5” aluminum ribbon super tweeter. All drivers use a proprietary Low Distortion Motor system.
Crossover: Hovland film and foil capacitors, Solen film-foil capacitors, Solen Perfect Lay air-core inductors, military-spec film-foil resistors. Crossover points and architecture are classified.
Binding Posts: Two sets of five-way WBT platinum posts enabling bi-wiring. Single wire can be used direct to M/T with jumpers to the woofer cabinet.
Ambience Driver: Rear-firing 5” aluminum pure ribbon. Ambience circuit uses Dimensional Control to compensate for room acoustics and soundstage depth, providing a Global Axis polar response pattern to simulate live musical reproduction.
Fine Tuning Adjustments: Subwoofer level control and frequency tuning variable from 50Hz to 100Hz. Front tweeter level control adjustment centered at 4 kHz with 3dB gain and 18dB cut. Front super tweeter level control adjustment centered at 20 kHz with 10dB gain and 11dB cut.
Subwoofer Amplifier Power: 1000 watts rms Class D technology (one for each subwoofer). System total is 2000 watts rms, 4,000 watts peak.
Frequency Response: 15-35 kHz, +/- 2 dB, 13 Hz100 kHz –6 dB, (+/- 1dB at mid band).
Impedance: 6 ohms avg. (8ohm M/T; 4ohm Woofer).
Recommended Power: 20 watts up to 1000 watts Sensitivity: 94 dB @ 1w/1m using 2.83 V. (96 dB
with subwoofer and super tweeter boost settings). Warranty: Twenty years Parts and Labor,
excluding burned voice coils due to amp clipping. Amplifiers are warranted for three years. Warranty is transferable to second owner.
Finishes: Standard finishes include dark red cherry, natural cherry, walnut, light maple, Lexus silver and piano gloss black. A satin-gloss polyester clear-coat protects the fine wood surfaces. Premium finishes available for an additional fee.
