LCR-40SE Instruction Manual
Thank you for purchasing a high technology speaker from Von Schweikert Audio, a leader in audiophile
loudspeaker engineering. This speaker may be used as either a full range speaker system in a conventional stereo
music setup or as a dedicated dialogue speaker in a Home Theater application. As it is designed to be used with
either rear or front projection sets, it is unshielded. However, our LCR-35 is shielded for use with conventional
CRT based tube sets. If you wish to use the LCR-40SE with a conventional TV, place the unit at least two feet from
the CRT.
SETUP:
After unpacking the LCR-40SE, attach the supplied rubber squares under the unit to eliminate vibration between the
speaker and shelf or RPTV. If the LCR-40SE is mounted at ear level, tilting will not be needed. However, when
mounting the speaker at a level sub stantially higher than the ear, it may be necessary to tilt th e unit downwards for
best treble reproduction. Since this unit is not magnetically shielded, it must be placed at least two feet from
conventional CRTs.
CONNECTION:
Cardas gold/rhodium plated binding posts are employed that accept standard size (1/4") spade lugs and also banana
plugs. However, the spade lugs have better connection and are recommended.
MOUNTING INSIDE EQUIPMENT CABINET:
The LCR-40SE can be optimized for both free standing and equipment cabinet mounting. As shipped, the bass
response is set for free standing use, on top of RPTV or stand beneath screen. If the LCR-40SE is to be installed
inside an equipment cabinet, an increase in midbass frequencies will be heard due to the cavity resonance of the
equipment cabinet, combined with boundary reinforcement. In order to maximize the midrange presence in relation
to the bass response, there are two things that can be done to optimize the frequency response:
1. To eliminate the cavity resonance created by the hollow cabinet, you will have to stuff the cavity around the
speaker with fiberglass or some other stuffing material in order to cut down the midbass boost;
2. To eliminate the additional bass response created by the boundary reinforcement, remove the plastic input
terminal cup found at the rear of the unit and add four large handfulls of Dacron polyfill, found at fabric stores or
craft shops. Alternately, you can order it from us. Place two handfuls behind each of the two woofers, then replace
the input terminal cup. The amount of Dacron added serves to fine tune the bass response, so please do not hesitate
to try this tuning aid.
BREAK-IN
The midrange and tweeter require 80 hours of playing before the suspensions break in. Note that the drivers used in
the LCR-40SE are extremely clear and low in distortion; any brightness problem will be caused by bright
soundtracks and/or cold electronics. Try another set of interconnect or speaker cables and let your equipment warm
up for four hours.

25Hz-25kHz -6dB. In free air, 30Hz-20kHz +/- 1.5dB.
IMPEDANCE: 8 Ohms nominal, 5 Ohms min.
MOUNTING: Can be mounted horizontally or vertically, with tweeters mirror imaged either inboard or outboard.
Can also be mounted inside equipment cabinet with appropriate stuffing. Since this unit is not
magnetically shielded, it must be placed at least two feet from a conventional CRT.
BASS LOADING: Front-ported, triple-chambered, transmission line system with 80% acoustic fill. Made from 1"
MDF (2" thick front baffle) with 1" acoustic foam/felt lining.
BASS DRIVERS: 2pc -- 7" cast frame Low Distortion carbon-fiber coned woofers, long throw design, high
temperature voice coils, Low Distortion Motor, and butyl rubber surrounds.
