INTRODUCTION
It is indeed true that very few owners of new Hi Fi equipment read the enclosed instruction manual. The people Vivid Audio have, in the light of this fact decided not to provide an instruction manual or user guide on this product!
Instead we have designed a concise informative piece of literature design to enthral you whilst looking through it and without even knowing it learning about the dos and don’ts of this fine piece of equipment.
The people at Vivid Audio are an enthusiastic bunch. They really enjoy what they do - and are good at it too! Although only a few years old we have in this short space of time revolutionised many peoples’ perceptions on what a good loudspeaker should be able to do. We believe in sound (excuse the pun) engineering design and as such have a skilled bunch of engineers and design professionals on board looking after all aspects of our products.
UNPACKING
Lay the complete sealed product on its back as indicated by the arrows on the side of the box. A power driver can now be used to remove the screws securing the top wooden cover of the crate (red). Remove cover and store carefully. Now lay the crate on the bottom side as indicated and remove the accessories from the crate before proceeding further. The loudspeaker is now exposed.
Slide the loudspeaker towards you out of the crate (on the poly end pieces). CAREFULLY remove the protective materials paying special attention not to damage the drivers in the process.
Reassemble the packaging and save for future use.
Assembly
Assuming you have purchased the matching C1 stand (which will provide the ultimate platform to optimise the performance of the C1), you would have unpacked the product in a similar way to the C1 and will now be in a position to mount the C1 onto the C1s. For this a 5mm o ring and two M8 bolts are provided. Ensure you have positioned your stand correctly using the knurled spikes provided or alternately the rubber feet if there is a chance of damaging the floor with the spikes. Make sure that all five spikes are securely mounted and the stand is not rocking. With the o ring in position place the C1 CAREFULLY on the C1s lining up the two location bolt holes in the process. Insert these ensuring not to over tighten them, - the o ring should just begin to flatten as the bolts are nipped up.
ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
If you are satisfied with the positional stuff above the time has come to connect the loudspeakers to you power amplifier.
MAKE SURE YOUR AMPLIFIER IS TURNED OFF!!
3
Connect the red terminals of your amplifier to the red terminals of your loudspeaker (by utilising the red bridging wire provided). The black terminal of your amplifier is connected to your loudspeaker’s black terminals (by using the black bridging wire provided as above). This connection method is to be used if you do not possess two pairs of loudspeaker cables. If you did you would connect both cables in parallel to the terminals of your amplifier and connect the two red connectors on the loudspeaker end of the speaker cables to the two red terminals of your loudspeaker. The same applied to the black terminals of the C1 loudspeaker.
In order to obtain maximum benefit from your purchase, it is important to know something about the acoustic conditions of your room you intend to install the loudspeakers in. No matter how well the product performs in a good environment the performance will be adversely influenced if care is not taken at this stage. Extensive information of room acoustics is available to you on our web site www.vividspeakers.com
A short précis of this guideline follows:
Let us start with the centre speaker. Unfortunately the centre speaker will only find its home in one or two suitable positions in your listening room - that is to satisfy its design criteria – that is to create an acoustic picture of the video picture. Set top position (with blue tack) or stand mounted with the
.
matching C1s acoustically designed floor stand. The loudspeaker should face the listening position. When you are satisfied that you have optimised the floor position (if selected), insert the two m8 mounting screws and tighten, ensuring the 5mm O ring is firmly positioned in the stand top moat. Insert the spikes by screwing them into the feet and ensuring that the loudspeaker stands vertically and does not rock on the five spike support system, in any direction. The method to be adopted is to fit the front spike and the two rear ones at first. Now is the time to ensure that the speaker is standing vertically as viewed from the side and front of the loudspeaker. Now tighten up the three knurled lock nuts provided carefully not disturbing the spike heights. Once you are satisfied with both the final position, the verticality of the product and the toe in, you may request your long suffering friend to tilt the loudspeaker in a sideways direction exposing the underside of the foot of the loudspeaker, enabling you to insert the side spike. Turn the spike into the brass thread as far as it will go (do not lock the lock nut at this time). This procedure may be repeated for the other last outstanding apposing spike. Return the loudspeaker to the position of rest. You may now unscrew the two side spikes in turn thus providing a substantial improvement to lateral support. Once you feel they are just supporting the loudspeaker without upsetting the geometry lock the spikes in position by using the knurled lock nuts provided.
