Installation Instructions
The system operates by sensing the infrared energy that is
emitted by the human body when crossing the sensing fingers
within its fi eld of view.
Notes:
1) The temperature range may be reduced due to battery
characteristics.
2) The detecting range may be reduced drastic ally in ambient or
background temperatures of 30°C to 45°C (86°F to 113°F)
PHYSICAL
Dimensions: 5.8 x 8.5 x 3.6 cm (2.3 x 3.3 x 1.4 i n).
Weight: 70 g (2.5 oz).
Color: White.

The MINI-ALERT is designed to operate as a portable,
free-standing or wall mounted self-contained unit.
• Posit ion the unit verti cal ly s o t hat t he l ens f ac es the ar ea under
surveillance.
• The field of view is approximately 90°, located 45° on either
side of the front of the unit, approximat ely parallel to the floor,
at the height of the unit (see Figur e 1). The maximum r ange is
6 m (20 ft).
Figure 1. Positioning the MINI-ALERT
• Position the MINI-ALERT so that an approaching person will
have to cross the sensing fingers of its field of view as in
Figure 1. The unit is not sens itive t o motion dir ectly t owards or
away from the unit, because this ki nd of moti on does not c ros s
the sensing fingers within its field of view.
Important - The MINI-ALERT operates by sensing the
difference in t emperature between the pers on moving acr oss
its field of view and the background (at which the unit is
aimed). If the backgr ound temperature is 30°C to 45°C (86°F
to 113°F), the MINI-ALERT may fail to detect, because the
temperature differenc e is too small. Therefore, you must not
aim the unit toward warm objects, such as walls that are
heated by sunlight, ovens, heaters, etc.
It is recommended that the MINI- ALERT be installed only in
temperature controlled areas and aimed toward the coolest
part of the room.
• Make sure that the MINI-ALERT will not be blocked by any
objects such as doors, packages, drapes, glass partitions,
windows, etc.
• The unit should be posit ioned at a height of 2.5 to 4 ft ( 80 to
125 cm) from the f loor.
Note: It may be necess ary to posit ion the unit lower, if detection
of a small child or a pet is desired.

If desired, the MINI-ALERT
may be installed on a wall
with 2 screws (supplied).
See Figures 2 and 3.
• Remove the batter y cover
from the front of the unit
by placing your thumbs
as shown in Figure 2 and
exerting a slight pres sure
downward and toward the
bottom of the unit.
• Inst all one of the suppl ied
screws on the wall, i n the
location where the top of
the MINI-ALERT is to be
positioned.
• Mount the key-slot (on
the case rear) over the
head of the screw (Fig.
3). Adjust the screw so
that the unit is held as
close as possible to the
wall, to avoid vibrations.
• Mark the location of the lower screw hole.
• Remove the MINI-ALERT from the wall.
• Drill the lower screw hole.
• Remount the MINI -ALERT key slot onto the upper s crew and
secure the unit to the wall with the lower screw. Assure that
the unit is held f irmly to the wall and cannot vibrate.
Caution: This product is only for indoor use. Do not install
outdoors

• Set the switch (at the front of the unit) to the left - OFF
position.
• Remove the battery cover (see Figure 2). Snap the battery
connector onto a 9 Volt battery.
Important: Use Alkal ine battery only.
• Close the battery compartment cover and allow the unit to
stabilize for 5 mi nutes.

When you want to di sable or to move the MINI-ALERT, set the
slide switc h to the left - OFF position.
To enable the MINI-ALERT, set t he slide swit ch to the right - ON
position. A single short duration beep will s ound, indicating that
the unit has turned ON.
A delay timer of approximately 15 seconds will begin t o operate,
giving you enough time to exit the unit's field of view. If you
remain in the unit's field of view after this delay, an alarm may
sound.
If you wish to test the MINI -ALERT, deliberately walk acros s its
field of view. Upon detecting your motion, the MINI-ALERT will
sound for about 5 seconds, or for as long as your motion
continues. Move out of the unit' s field of view, and the unit will
stop sounding.
The MINI-ALERT is now ready to s ignal when someone cross es
its field of view.
6RXQG/HYHO6HOHFWLRQ
If the sound level is too hi gh
or too low, you can select
the sound level with the
sound level control jumper.
See Figure 4.
The highest sound level is
obtained with the jumper
mounted across the two
pins (as supplied). To
reduce the sound level,
remove the jumper entirely
or mount it on one of the
pins, so it will not get lost.

MINI-ALERT. Verify that motion is indeed detected at the
pre-planned location, otherwise the unit may fail to warn when
required to do so.
The unit should be test ed each time you turn it ON (enabl ed). If
the unit is to r emain constantly ON, it s hould be tested daily, t o
assure proper oper ation.
If the MINI-ALERT does not function properly, immediately
replace the battery and retest. If the MINI-ALERT still does not
function properly, return it f or repair.
Important: The battery must be replaced at least once a year,
even if the MINI-ALERT is operating properly.
If the unit is used frequently and sounds more than 20 times a
day, the battery will have to be replaced more often.
