1. IMPORTANT SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
READ THE FOLLOWING WARNINGS BEFORE YOU USE YOUR DEVICE
To avoid electric shock and prevent fire it is important to read the following instructions
:-
● Only power this modulator with a Vision V40-125P 12V power supply.
● To disconnect the modulator from the mains completely, disconnect external power supply from the mains socket.
● The mains socket must be easily accessible.
● Disconnect the exter nal power supply from the mains when the unit is not i n use for long periods of time or during
storms.
● Any repairs must be made by qualified personn el.
● Do not expose the modulator to liquids, moisture or areas of high humidity.
● Avoid placing the modulator next to central heating components or a hot water tank.
● Do not plug/unplug the external power supply with wet hands.
● Do not place naked flames on or near the modulator.
● If the modulator has been k ept in cold conditions for a long time, allow it t o warm up for at least two hours before
connecting the power.
● Do not insert any objects into ventilation openings.
● Do not allow roof insulation or textiles to cover any ventilation slots.
● Only mount the modulator in vertical position with the RF connector at the bottom.
● Always allow at least 10cm of free space around all sides of the modulator to aid ventilation.
Installation / Storage
● This unit contains sensitive, high precision pieces of electronics. To ensure optimum performance and avoid
damage, do not store this unit in any location where it may collect dirt, dust, lint, etc.
•
Do not expose it to extreme heat or cold (e.g. in direct sunlight, near a heater or in a car during the day).
•
Place the unit securely to a vo id shock or falling.
● Before moving the unit, always unplug all cords first.
•
The modulator is very sensitive to static. Always connect all input and output cables
before
powering the unit.
● In the case of malfunction, unplug the external power supply from the mains.
● Before connecting the unit to other electronic devices,
always
switch off and unplug
all devices
from the mains.
● Do not spill liquid on the unit. Do not us e any diluents or volat ile liquid to clean the unit. D isconnect the power and
use a soft slightly damp cloth allowing the unit to dry completely before re-powering.
● Do not step on or place heavy objects on top of the unit . To avoid har dware dam age, handle al l buttons, c onnectors
and switches gently.

2. INTRODUCTION
Congratulations on pur chasing the V40-10HDMI. You now own a high qu ality, prof essional DVB-T HD modulator. To get
the most out of your purchase, please take the time to carefully read through this manual.
3. INSTRUCTIONS
3.1 DESCRIPTION
The V40-10HDMI is a high quality DVB-T professional modulator which accepts one HDMI input signal and converts it
into one RF DVB-T channel on its output. The excellent picture (Full HD 1920*1080-30p) and modulation quality
(MER~35 dB) renders th e V40-10HDMI an ideal solution f or distributing SD/HD digital si gnals from sources such as a
DVD player, Set-Top-Box or camera in an MATV network using the DVB-T technology.
The user has the ability to control th e device by either using the onboard L.E.D - SSD (L.E.D Seven Segment Display)
interface and keypad for quic k installation or b y using the USB interf ace with the appropri ate software acco mpanying the
V40-10HDMI for advanced programming.
Finally, the V40-10HDMI metal case pr o v ides ex c elle n t elec tromagnetic shielding as well as gr eat temperature dissipati on
and rigidity.
3.2 FEATURES

3.2.1 Auto-reset functions and watchdog
During the normal oper ation of the V40-10HDMI, the main CPU m onitors all the internal parts in order to e nsure that th e
device works norm ally. In case of an intern al error or module f ailure, the V40-10HDMI immediatel y initiates the recover y
procedure by resetting th e appr opriat e m odule or th e devic e. Fina ll y, watchdo g tim ers ensur e that the de vice w ill be res et
in case of CPU failure.
3.2.2 Buttons lock-mechanism
The V40-10HDMI will lock the functiona lity of its buttons aft er 5 min idle time to avoid of being pushed ac cidentally. Two
red dots on the SSD notif y the user that the button in terface is locked. T o unlock it, the user must pres s simultaneously
the UP + DOWN buttons for 5 seconds.
3.2.3 Digital attenuator
The V40-10HDMI has an embedded digital attenuator. The user is able to select between three different attenuation steps
as follows:
1. 0 dB attenuation (Output level: 90 dBμV) SSD will display: “00”
2. 10 dB attenuation (Output level: 80 dBμV) SSD will display: “10”
3. 25 dB attenuation (Output level: 65 dBμV) SSD will display: “25”
3.2.4 HDCP ON/OFF function
By pressing the “Channel / Pr of ile” but ton f or m ore t han 5 sec the us er enabl es the HD CP ON /OF F f unc tion. The SSD will
display this status as follows:
1. H1 : Indicating that the HDCP is ON
2. H0 : Indicating that the HDCP is OFF
Using the Up/Down b uttons the user is able to sel ect one of the above status to enable/disable the HDCP func tion. The
V40-10HDMI will exit from the current functionality after being idle for more than 2-3 sec.

3.2.5 USB interface for advance programming
The V40-10HDMI provides a USB interface with the appropriate software for advanced programming. For more
information read Appendix A.

3.5 INSTALLATION
The V40-10HDMI can be programmed with one of the following ways:
● From the front panel display
● From the USB interface
3.5.1 Installation using the Front pa n el display
The user is able to i nstall v ery quick and eas y multip le V40-10HDMIs us ing the S SD + Butt on interf ace of th e front pa nel
of the device, following the steps below:

Power up the V40-10HDMI by connecting the external power supply. The V40-10HDMI will need 20-30 seconds to
initialize itself. The SSD (Seven Segment Display – No2/Figure 1.) depicts the initialization status.

Choose “
Channel mode
” by pressing the Channel/Profile button (No 1 / Figure 1. ) and the “Channel LED” will be
illuminated indicating that “Channel” mode is selected.

” by pressing the Channel/Prof ile button (No 1 / Figure No.1 ) the “Atte nuation LED” will be
illuminated indicating that “Attenuation” mode is selected.

indicating that “Profile” mode is selected.
How Profiles works
In an installation all the modulators (or Mux in general) need to have different values of the following fields to avoid
conflicts in the automated scan of the TV sets:
Program Name Service ID TS ID
For that reason, the user must always select a dif ferent Profile number for every modulator i n the system starting from
Number #1.
Eg. Let’s say we want to install three modulators in a CATV network. In step No 4 we will choose:

As a result, all the above modulators have different values in the above fields.
Caution!!!
● Every time we choose a different Profile number, the V40-10HDMI will apply a full reset to itself that will l ast for 20-30
seconds.
● Using the USB interface enables the ability to add custom values to the above fields.
3.5.2 Installation using the USB interface
The V40-10HDMI provides a USB interface with the appropriate software for advanced programming. For more
information read Appendix A.

APPENDIX Α
The V40-10HDMI offers a USB interface with the appropriate software (DVProbe.exe) for advance programming.
The software can be found on the CD that accompanies the V40-10HDMI.
System requirements

Device connection via software
1. Insert the supplied software CD into your CD-ROM drive.
2. Connect the V40-10HDMI via the USB cable (A-male to B-male type)
3. In case Windows can not install the USB drivers automatically, when prom pt, insert the correct path of th e CD folder
named “USB drivers”, which contains the V40-10HDMI USB drivers.
4. Once W indows has successf ully installe d the USB driv ers of the V40-10HDMI, a pop-up message appears to verif y this
process.
5. Run the DVProbe.exe file and the main screen will appear (Figure 2.):

Software guidelines
1. From the “ComPort” combo box choose the correct USB port that connects the V40-10HDMI and press “Connect”.
2. Once the softwar e has successfully connected wit h the device, it will automatica lly download all the settings of the
V40-10HDMI.
3. The DVProbe consists of four sub-categories as described below:
● DVB-T Settings – Parameters regarding the modulator part
● Encoder Settings – Parameters regarding the H.264 encoder
● Multiplexer Settings – Parameters regarding the multiplex part
● System Settings – Parameters regarding system information

In this category the user is able to adjust several parameters of the modulator RF output part, as described below:

In this category the user is able to adjust parameters of the V40-10HDMI multiplexer, as described below:

Caution!!!
● Modulation settings must be applied with care and in order to have adequate output bitrate. The output bitrate (which can be
calculated from the tables in Appendix B) must be equal or greater than the total sum of the bitrate of the encoders.
Example
: Assuming we select the following modulation settings:
Modulation: 8K
Constellation: 16-QAM
Code Rate: 5/6
Guard Interval: 1/32
Bandwidth: 8 MHz
We have an output bitrate of
20.107 Mbps
according to Appendix B.
This means that encoder’s bitrate must be adjusted in such a way that the total bitrate of the encoder does not exceed the
20.107 Mbps limit, otherwise artifacts may occur.
For example, one valid selection in case of four encoders would be to set each encoder bitrate to 5 Mbps since:
4 x 5 Μbps = 20 Mbps < 20.107 Mbps
* TS ID must always be different between DVB-T modulators in the same network.
4. System Settings
This category depicts information about the system’s settings as follows:
4.1 Status
- Depicts the status of the modulator (Idle or Running)
4.2 FW Version
- Depicts the firmware version of the uP
4.3 SW Version
- Depicts the software version of the DVProbe
4.4 HW Version
- Depicts the hardware version of the V40-10HDMI
4.5 Serial number
- Depicts the serial number of the device

Buttons
● By pressing the “Get” button in any sub-category, all the settings of this category are downloaded from the modulator.
● By pressing the “Apply” button in any sub-category, all the settings of this category are uploaded to the modulator.
● The “Factory Defaults” button sets the modulator’s setting to factory default.
● The “Reset System” button applies a reset to the modulator.
