10. Ventilation - Slots and openings in the cabinet are provided for ventilation, to ensure

reliable operation of the product, and to protect from overheating. These openings
must not be blocked or covered. The openings should never be blocked by placing the
product on a bed, sofa, rug, or other similar surface. This product should not be placed
in a built-in installation such as a bookcase or rack unless proper ventilation is provided
or the manufacturer’s instructions have been adhered to.

Power Sources

- This product should be operated only from the type of power supply
indicated on the marking label. If you are not sure of what type of power supply to use
consult your product dealer or distributor.

Grounding or Polarization

- This product may be equipped with a polarized alternating
current line plug (a plug having one blade wider than the other). This plug will fit into
the power outlet only one way. This is a safety feature. If you are unable to insert the
plug fully into the outlet, try reversing the plug. If the plug should still fail to fit, contact
your electrician to replace your obsolete outlet. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the
polarized plug.

13. Power-Cord Protection - Power-supply cords should be routed so that they are not

likely to be walked on or pinched by items placed upon or against them. Pay particular

Protective Attachment Plug

- The product is equipped with an attachment plug having
overload protection. This is a safety feature. See Instruction Manual for replacement or
resetting of protective device. If replacement of the plug is required, be sure the service
technician uses a replacement plug specified by the manufacturer that has the same
overload protection as the original plug.

15. Outdoor Antenna Grounding - If an outside antenna or cable system is connected to

the product, be sure the antenna or cable system is grounded so as to provide some
protection against voltage surges and built-up static charges. Article 810 of the Nation

­al Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70, provides information with regard to proper ground­ing of the mast and supporting structure, grounding of the lead-in wire to an antenna
discharge unit, size or grounding conductors, location of antenna-discharge unit, con

­nection to grounding electrodes, and requirements for the grounding electrode.

16. Lightning - For added protection of this product during a lightning storm, or when it

is left unattended and unused for long periods of time, unplug it from the wall outlet and
disconnect the antenna or cable system. This will prevent damage to the product due
to lightning and power-line surges.

Power Lines -

An outside antenna system should not be located near overhead power lines
or other electric light or power circuits, or where it can fall into such power lines or
circuits. When installing an outside antenna system, extreme care should be taken to
keep from touching such power lines or circuits as contact with them might be fatal.

18. Overloading - Do not overload wall outlets, extension cords, or integral convenience

receptacles as this can result in a risk of fire or electric shock.

19. Object and Liquid Entry -

Never push objects of any kind into this product through open­ings as they may touch dangerous voltage points or short-out parts that could result in a fire.

1. Connecting to an External Power Source

Connect the power adapter (supplied with the player) to the side input plug (DC IN 9­12V) and to a wall outlet. Do not use any other device to power the VRPD7.

Note: The DC 9-12V OUT jack

allows you to connect to
an external monitor.

2. Open the Disc Cover

Slide the OPEN/CLOSE
latch on the front to the left
while opening the disc cover.

3. Inserting a DVD disc.

Align the center of the DVD disc with the center of the
disc guide. Press gently down on the DVD to snap the
disc into place, then close the disc cover.

4. Turning the Unit On.

Press the power button on the
left side of the panel to switch
on the player.

5. Navigate the DVD’s Menu

After the DVD’s menu loads you
can use the PREVIOUS and NEXT
buttons to navigate the menu
selections available.
Highlight the Menu item you wish
to view and push the Play Button.

6. Play/Pause

Highlight the Menu item you wish
to view and press the PLAY/PAUSE
button to start playback. If there is a
DVD already in the player, then the
VRPD7 will start reading the disc
automatically when power is turned on.

7. Stop

When you want to stop, press
the STOP button, it will return
to the power-on logo.
To power off the unit, press POWER button.

The DVD player will automatically power off in
three minutes after entering screensaver mode.

Connecting the Audio and Video Cables

Audio Cable

1. Insert the end of the cable with the single plug into the AUDIO OUT jack on the side of

the DVD player.

2.

Insert the plugs on the other end, the left & right audio, into the AUDIO IN jacks on the TV.

3. Connect the yellow Video Cable to the VIDEO jack on the side of your player.

4. Connect the other end of the Video Cable to the VIDEO IN jack on the TV.

Note: Do not connect the Video cable to the Antenna Input jack of a TV set.

• When connecting to a TV with PAL system, at first you should set the
video output to TV from the setup menu (press SETUP; select TV un­der Component/Video) then press PLAY on the remote to set PAL for
the default system is NTSC.

Connecting the Ear Buds

Any headphones with a 1/8”/3.5 mm stereo plug can be connected to the VRPD7.
If you have headphones with a 1/4”/6.35 mm stereo plug, you will need an adaptor.
Two sets of headphones may be used at the same time with the VRPD7.

1. Before connecting the headphones, turn down the volume on the VRPD7.

2. Insert the 1/8”/3.5 mm stereo plug into the PHONE 1 Jack or the PHONE 2 jack on the
side of the DVD player.

Enjoying Dolby Pro Logic Surround Sound Dolby Pro Logic Surround

Enjoy the dynamic, realistic sound of Dolby Pro Logic Surround Sound by connecting the
VRPD7 to an amplifier equipped with Dolby Pro Logic Surround and speaker system (right
and left front speakers, a center speaker, and one or two rear speakers).

Adjust the volume of your receiver to a comfortable listening level to avoid any
speaker damage.

Playing a Disc from It’s The Menu Screen

Usually every disc’s menu will have a different menu screen, sometimes icons are used, but
they are navigated in the same way.

Starting Playback

1. Press the TITLE or MENU button to

access the menu screen.

2. Use the ARROW buttons to highlight
a title.

3. Press the ENTER or PLAY button to
start playback of the selected title.

Note: You can input the number of the

title that you wish to play by­directly using the number but

tons.

Pausing Playback

1. Press the ||/STEP button once to

pause playback.

2.

Pressing it again will advance
the picture

one frame each time it is

pressed.

Stopping Playback

1. Press the STOP button to stop playback.

2.

Press the PLAY button to resume playback.

Fast Forward & Reverse

You can fast forward or reverse a disc at
speeds of 2x, 4x, 8x, or 16x.
Press the REV or FWD button during play­back. The first time the button is pressed
the speed becomes double the normal
speed, then each time the button is pressed
the speed is doubled again until 16x which
is normal fast forward speed.
The sound is muted during Fast Forward &
Reverse.

Press the PLAY button to resume normal
playback.

Note: The Fast Forward & Reverse function
is disabled on some DVD discs.

SLOW MOTION

Slow Motion

Most discs can be played back in slow motion.

Press the SLOW button during playback to use
the slow motion feature.

You can play a disc at

speeds of 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16.

When you press the SLOW button the playback
speed becomes 1/2 normal playback speed.
Pressing the SLOW button again will decrease
the playback speed by half.

Press PLAY to resume normal Playback.
The sound is muted while using the Slow Mo

-

tion feature.

Note: This feature is disabled on some DVDs.

Kodak Picture CD Playback

1. When a Kodak Picture CD is loaded,

playback will automatically start.

2. Select a folder on the disc and a menu will
appear on the screen. Press UP or DOWN to
select a folder, then press ENTER or PLAY to
view the folder contents.

3. You can select a playback mode of “Repeat
One” or “Repeat All” by pressing the RE

­PEAT button. Press UP or DOWN to choose
the picture you wish to view.

4. Start Playback by pressing ENTER or PLAY.

JPEG & CD Playback

1. Load a JPEG CD into the VRPD7.

2. Press the STOP or MENU button to view

the contents.

3.

Select a folder on the disc. Press UP or

DOWN to select a folder, then press ENTER
or PLAY to view the folder contents.

4. You can select a playback mode of “Repeat

One” or “Repeat All” by pressing the RE­PEAT button. Press UP or DOWN to choose
the picture you wish to view or CD track to
play.

5. Start Playback by pressing ENTER or PLAY.

Creating Your Own Picture CDs

Using your computer you can save
your digital photos in JPEG format,
then burn them on a CD-R disc.

Audio CD Playback

When a CD with auto-run is loaded, gen

-

erally a CD produced by a record com

­pany, playback will automatically start
playing the first track. Use the buttons on
the VRPD7 to PLAY, STOP, PAUSE, NEXT,
& PREVIOUS. The Repeat, Fast Forward/
Reverse, and the Filelist Up/Down fea­tures can only be used with the remote.
See page 20 for instructions on using the
remote for CD playback.

MP3 & WMA CD Playback

When a CD with MP3 and/or WMA au

­dio files is loaded IT WILL NOT AUTO-
START. Use the buttons on the VRPD7 to
PLAY, STOP, PAUSE, NEXT, & PREVIOUS.
Files may be stored on a CD-R disc as fol­lows;
Figure 1 shows MP3 and WMA files on a
CD-R disc that are not stored in folders.
Figure 2 shows a CD-R disc with MP3 &
WMA files stored in folders. FOLDERS

CAN ONLY BE OPENED WITH THE RE­MOTE. The Repeat, Fast Forward/Re-

verse, and the Filelist Up/Down features
can only be used with the remote.
See page 20 for instructions on using the
remote for CD/CD-R playback.

Playback Using The Buttons On The VRPD7

1. To play an audio file using the buttons

on the VRPD7, press PLAY and the first
file will start playing.

2.

To pause playback press the PLAY/PAUSE
button. To resume playback press
PLAY.

3. To play the next file on the list, press

the NEXT button. You may skip forward
through all the files on the list in this
way.

4.

To play the previous file on the list, press
the PREVIOUS button. You may skip

Remote Control Features

With the remote control you can use the
Filelist Up/Down, Repeat, Fast Forward/Re

Filelist Up/Filelist Down

The Filelist Up/Down is used to navigate the
directories and files on a CD disc.

1. When a Disc with folders of audio files is

inserted into the VRPD7 you will see a
screen like in Figure 1.

2. Press the UP or DOWN ARROWS to

select a folder to highlight. Press ENTER
to open the folder.

3. If there are more folders in the folder you

just opened, navigate them in the same
way as step 2.

4. If there are files in the folder you just

opened, you can navigate them in the
same way as step 2, then you can play
those files.

Repeat

1. Press the REPEAT button once to repeat

the track that is playing.

2. Press the REPEAT button twice to repeat

all the tracks in the current folder.

3. Press the REPEAT button again to

resume normal play.

Fast Forward/Reverse

1. Press the FAST FORWARD button once

to play at 2 times normal speed. Each
time the FAST FORWARD button is
pressed the current speed is doubled up
to 16 times normal speed.

Locating a Specific Title, Chapter, or Track

DVD discs are normally divided into Titles which are sub-divided into Chapters.
Music CDs are divided into tracks.

Locating A Title Using The Title Menu

You can locate a specific title using the Title Menu
Feature if the DVD video disc contains a Title
Menu.

1. Press the TITLE button and the Title Menu will

appear on the LCD of the VRPD7. If the VRPD7
is connected to a TV, the Title Menu will appear
on it.

2. Use the ARROW buttons to select the title you

want. You can also directly locate a specific title
by pressing its assigned number with the NUM­BER buttons.

3. Press the ENTER button to start playback of

Chapter 1 of the title selected. You can also use
the PREVIOUS or NEXT buttons to select a title
or track.

Repeat Features of the VRPD7

The VRPD7 DVD player allows you to repeat a specific Title, Chapter, Track, or Segment of
a DVD disc, or repeat Tracks and Segments of tracks of a music CD as well.

REPEAT

Repeat

Press the REPEAT button once to repeat the current chapter.
Press the REPEAT button twice to repeat the current title.
Press the REPEAT button three times to repeat the entire disc.
Press the REPEAT button again to cancel the repeat feature.

A-B Repeat

Press the “A-B” button once to set the start point “A” of
the segment to be repeated.
Press “A-B” again to set the end point “B”.
The segment between point “A” and point “B” will be re­peated.
The “A-B” segment will repeat until you press “A-B” again
to cancel it.

The ZOOM Feature of the VRPD7

The VRPD7 allows you to magnify a picture as well as the
zoom point.

During normal or slow motion playback you can zoom into
a picture. The zoom feature will magnify the center of the
picture.

Pressing the ARROW buttons during zoom playback will
scroll the area being magnified.

The Zoom magnification is 2x, 3x, 4x and Normal.

The VRPD7 On-Screen display allows you to view operational status and disc information.

To check the operational status with the ON-Screen Display during playback, press the

movie scene from many different camera angles.

If the video disc was recorded with multiple angles, you
have the option to change the camera viewing angle.

Press the ANGLE button during playback. Each time
the ANGLE button is pressed, the viewing angle will
change.

Note: You may only press the ANGLE button when the

Setting the Parental Lock

The VRPD7 Parental lock feature works with DVD
discs equipped with Parental Lock.

To Set the Parental Lock

DVD video discs equipped with the parental lock function
are rated according to their content. The contents allowed
by a parental lock level and the way a DVD video disc can
be controlled may vary from disc to disc.
For example, if the disc allowed, you could edit out vio

­lent scenes unsuitable for children and replace them with
more suitable scenes, or lock out playback of the disc all
together.

1. Press STOP twice during playback.

2. Press SETUP; the SETUP MENU appears on the

screen.

3. Select “Preference Page”, press ENTER or PLAY.
