System Startup

1. Remove all packing materials.

2. Place the computer on a stable surface.

3. Securely attach any peripherals you want to use with the
computer (e.g. keyboard and mouse) to their ports.

4. Attach the AC/DC adapter to the DC-In jack at the rear of
the computer, then plug the AC power cord into an outlet,
and connect the AC power cord to the AC/DC adapter.

5. Use one hand to raise the
angle

(do not exceed 120 degrees); use the other hand

(as illustrated in Figure 1) to support the base of the
computer (Note: Never lift the computer by the lid/LCD).

6. Press the power button to turn the computer “on”.

Keyboard & Function Keys

The keyboard has a numeric keypad for easy numeric data
input. Pressing the Fn +NumLk keys turns on/off the nu-

change operational features instantly.

The function keys (F1 - F12 etc.) will act as hot keys when
pressed while the Fn key is held down. In addition to the

Driver Installation

The Device Drivers & Utilities + User’s Manual disc contains the drivers and utilities necessary for the proper operation
of the computer. This setup will probably have already been done for you. If this is not the case, insert the disc and click

Install Drivers (button), or Option Drivers (button) to access the Optional driver menu. Install the drivers in the or­der indicated. After installing each driver it will become grayed out.

Manual Driver Installation

Click the Browse CD button in the Drivers Installer application and browse to the executable file in the appropriate
driver folder.

If a Found New Hardware wizard appears during the installation procedure, click Cancel, and follow the installation
procedure as directed.



Driver Installation General Guidelines

As a general guide follow the default on-screen instructions for each driver (e.g. Next > Next > Finish) unless you are an
advanced user. In many cases a restart is required to install the driver.

Make sure any modules (e.g. PC Camera or WLAN) are ON before installing the appropriate driver.

External Optical (CD/DVD) Device Drives

To install applications and drivers etc. you will need to attach an external optical CD/DVD device to the USB ports.

Windows Update

After installing all the drivers make sure you enable Windows Update in order to get all the latest security updates etc. (all
updates will include the latest hotfixes from Microsoft).

Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause - Solution

The Wireless LAN/
Bluetooth modules

from Sleep.

The modules are off. Check the LED indicator / to see if the
module is on or off. If the LED indicator is off, then press the Fn + F11
(WLAN) or Fn + F12 (Bluetooth) in order to enable the modules.

The Bluetooth module’s default state will be off after resuming from the
Sleep power-saving state. Use the key combination (Fn + F12) to power

on the Bluetooth module after the computer resumes from Sleep.

Transferring data between the computer and a Bluetooth enabled
device is supported in one direction only (simultaneous data

transfer is not supported). If you are copying a file from your
computer to a Bluetooth enabled device, you will not be able to copy a
file from the Bluetooth enabled device to your computer until the file
transfer process from the computer has been completed.

Note that capturing high resolution video files requires a substantial
amount of disk space for each file.

Note that the Windows 7 system requires a minimum of 15GB of free
space on the C: drive system partition. It is recommended that you
save the capture video file to a location other than the C:drive, limit the
file size of the captured video or reduce video resolution (Options >
Video Capture Pin... > Output Size).



You can run the Recovery DVD, or recover the system from the hard disk partition, if you:

1. Have a system or hardware failure.

2. Need to restore the system to factory settings.

3. Have forgotten the system password.

Running the Recovery DVD

You will need to attach a DVD drive to the computer in order to access the Recovery DVD.

1. Make sure an external USB DVD drive is attached to the computer.

2. Start-up your notebook computer and press <F2> to enter the BIOS.

3. Use the arrow keys to go to the Boot menu.

4. Set the CD/DVD-ROM Drive (make sure the Recovery DVD is inserted) as the first device in the boot

order from the Boot menu (use the up/down arrow keys to select the device, and then use the “+” or “-”
keys to move the device up and down the order).

5. Select Exit Saving Changes from the Exit menu (or press F10) and press Enter to exit the BIOS and

reboot the computer.

6. Make sure the Recovery DVD is inserted into the external USB DVD drive.

7. As the computer boots up press a key when you see the message “Press any key to boot from CD or
DVD”.

8. Click RECOVERY TO FACTORY DEFAULT (button) when the Recovery System message appears.

9. You will then receive a Final Confirmation warning to make sure you are aware that all the partitions and
data will be removed (if you need to back up data/partitions then click No to exit and back up any data
before running the Recovery DVD again).

10. If you are sure you want to delete all data and partitions then click Yes.

11. The tools will load and the recovery process will then begin (note that the keyboard and mouse will be
temporarily locked during the recovery process).

12. When the recovery process is complete the computer will shut down.

13. Disconnect the external DVD drive and start up the computer.

14. You will then need to input your country and region preferences, passwords etc.

15. A short introductory video will appear before the system personalizes your settings.

16. When the system recovery is complete you can then restore any backed up data.

System Recovery HDD Partition

Alternatively you can use the hard disk partiton to recover the system.

1. Start-up your notebook computer and press <F11> during the POST (Power On System Test at boot up).

2. Click RECOVERY TO FACTORY DEFAULT (button) when the Recovery System message appears.

3. Follow the instructions above from steps 9 to 16.

Limited Warranty

VIEWSONIC® NETBOOK

What the warranty covers:

ViewSonic warrants its products to be free from defects in material and workmanship during the warranty
period. If a product proves to be defective in material or workmanship during the warranty period,
ViewSonic will, at its sole option, repair or replace the product with a similar product. Replacement
Product or parts may include remanufactured or refurbished parts or components. The replacement unit
will be covered by the balance of the time remaining on the customer’s original limited warranty.
ViewSonic provides no warranty for the third-party software included with the product or installed by the
customer.

How long the warranty is effective:

ViewSonic NetBook products are warranted for (1) year from the first consumer purchase for parts and
labor.
User is responsible for the back up of any data before returning the unit for service. ViewSonic is not
responsible for any data lost.

Who the warranty protects:

This warranty is valid only for the first consumer purchaser.

What the warranty does not cover:

1. Any product on which the serial number has been defaced, modified or removed.

2. Damage, deterioration or malfunction resulting from:

a. Accident, misuse, neglect, fire, water, lightning, or other acts of nature, unauthorized product

modification, or failure to follow instructions supplied with the product.

b. Any damage of the product due to shipment.
c. Removal or installation of the product.
d. Causes external to the product, such as electrical power fluctuations or failure.
e. Use of supplies or parts not meeting ViewSonic’s specifications.
f. Normal wear and tear.
g. Any other cause which does not relate to a product defect.

3. Any product exhibiting a condition commonly known as "image burn-in" which results when a static

image is displayed on the product for an extended period of time.

4. Removal, installation, one way transportation, insurance, and set-up service charges.

How to get service:

1. For information about receiving service under warranty, contact ViewSonic Customer Support

(Please refer to Customer Support page). You will need to provide your product's serial number.

2. To obtain warranty service, you will be required to provide (a) the original dated sales slip, (b) your

name, (c) your address, (d) a description of the problem, and (e) the serial number of the product.

3. Take or ship the product freight prepaid in the original container to an authorized ViewSonic service

center or ViewSonic.

4. For additional information or the name of the nearest ViewSonic service center, contact ViewSonic.

Limitation of implied warranties:

There are no warranties, express or implied, which extend beyond the description contained herein
including the implied warranty of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose.

Exclusion of damages:

ViewSonic's liability is limited to the cost of repair or replacement of the product. ViewSonic shall not be
liable for:

1. Damage to other property caused by any defects in the product, damages based upon inconve-

nience, loss of use of the product, loss of time, loss of profits, loss of business opportunity, loss of
goodwill, interference with business relationships, or other commercial loss, even if advised of the
possibility of such damages.

2. Any other damages, whether incidental, consequential or otherwise.

3. Any claim against the customer by any other party.

4. Repair or attempted repair by anyone not authorized by ViewSonic.

Effect of state law:

This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to
state. Some states do not allow limitations on implied warranties and/or do not allow the exclusion of
incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitations and exclusions may not apply to you.
