Important Safety Instructions
1 Read these instructions thoroughly . 2 Follow all w arning and instructions marked on this product. 3 Unplug the product from the wall outlet before cleaning. See the

4 Do not use the product near water . Ne ver spill liquid of an y kind on the product. 5 Do not place the product on an unstable cart, stand, or table. Doing so ma y cause the
product to fall, which can seriously damage it.
6 Slots and openings in the cabinet are provided for v entilation. To ensure reliable
operation, nev er block these ventilation slots b y placing the product on a bed, sofa, rug, or similar surface. This product should ne v er be placed near or over a r adiator or heat register; or installed in any enclosure that pre vents proper v entilation.
7 Make sure the power source complies with the po wer recommendation printed on the
back of the product. If you are not sure of the type of po wer provided b y the w all socket, consult your dealer or local power company.
8 Do not place any object on the power cord. Do not place this product where people could
walk on the power cord.
9 If you use an extension cord with this product, mak e sure the total ampere rating of the
product(s) plugged into the extension cord does not e xceed the ampere rating of the extension cord.
10 Nev er push objects of any kind through the ventilation slots at the bac k of the product. To
do so could risk fire or electric shock.
11 Do not attempt to service this product yourself. Opening or removing co vers ma y e xpose
you to dangerous voltage that could cause fire or electric shock. Refer all servicing needs to authorized service personnel.
12 Unplug this product from the wall outlet and contact authorized service personnel under
the follo wing conditions: a) When the power cord or plug is damaged or fra yed. b) If a liquid has been spilled into or on the product, including rain. c) If the product does not operate normally when operating instructions are follow ed.

Congratulations on your purchase of an ViewSonic VE150 color Vi ewPanel®! Save the original box and all packing material for your future shipping needs. The word "Windows®" in this user guide refers to the following Microsoft
®
operating systems: Windows '95, Windows '98, Windows NT® (4.0).
Pac kage Contents
Your ViewSonic® VE150 package includes the following:
• ViewSonic VE150 ViewPanel
• Video cable (15 pin mini D-sub connector)
• DC adapter
• Power cord
• User’s guide
• INF and ICM installation files on CD-ROM IMPORTANT: The supplied INF file assures compatibility with Windows
operating systems, and the ICM (Image Color Matching) file ensures accurate on-screen colors. ViewSonic r ecommends that you install both files: insert the CD-ROM into your system, wait for it to auto-install, select “Monitor Drivers,” and f ollow the on-screen instructions.
• Sit at least 18" from the ViewPanel.
• DO NOT APPLY PRESSURE TO THE SCREEN. The LCD screen is very delicate.
• DO NOT TOUCH THE SCREEN DIRECTLY WITH YOUR FINGERS. You ma y damage the screen, and oil from your skin is difficult to remove.
• Avoid exposing the ViewPanel to direct sunlight or other heat source. The ViewPanel should be facing away from direct sunlight to reduce glare.
• Choose a well ventilated area to position your ViewPanel to allow adequate dissipation of heat. Do not place anything on top of the ViewPanel.
• Ensure the area around the ViewPanel is clean and moisture-free.
• If smoke, abnormal noise, or strange odor is present, immediately switch the ViewPanel off and call your dealer. It is dangerous to continue using the ViewPanel.
• Never remove the rear cover. The display unit contains high-voltage parts. You may suffer electric shock if you touch these parts.
• Always handle your ViewPanel with care when moving it.

Quick Installation
1 Connect video cable
Make sure both the ViewPanel® and computer are powered OFF. Connect the video cable to the computer , then to the ViewPanel.
Macintosh® users:
Connect a Macintosh adapter (part No. VMAC-1) to the video cable, then to the ViewPanel. To order an adapter, contact Vie wSonic (see the back c o v er of this guide). Y ou will need to provide your V ie wP anel's serial number.
2 Connect power adpater and cables
Connect the DC Adapter to the ViewPanel, then to the po wer cord. Connect the power cord to a properly grounded AC outlet.
3 Power -on computer and Vie wP anel
P o w er ON the computer, then power ON the ViewP anel .
NOTE: At this point Windows
®
98 users will receive a message asking them to install the VE150’ s INF file . Insert the enclosed CD-ROM diskette and f ollow the on-screen instructions.
4 IMPORTANT: Initial screen image
adjustments
A. If there is no screen image and you
see the Outside Range Limits message, check to make sure y our system is set to one of the f actory preset timing modes (see page 10.)
• If you also have a CRT monitor, connect it t o your computer and set the signal timing.

B. For the best image quality, set the
timing (resolution and refresh rate) of your graphics card to:
1024x768@60Hz.
C. If you see vertical bars after
powering on the ViewPanel: (1) From the Windows 95 or 98
ST ART menu, select SHUTDOWN (but do not click "Yes").
(2) Use the VE150 controls to
adjust the CLOCK control until the ve rtical bars vanish. (See page 8)
(3) Adjust CLOCK PHASE until the
horizontal bars ("line noise") are minimized. (See page 9)
(4) Repeat steps (2) and (3) to
optimize the sharpness of the screen image.
(5) Select "No" to close the Windows
SHUTDOWN screen.
NOTE: If you see the Check Signal Cable message , check to see that
the video cable and power cable are both securely attached.

Adjusting the Screen Image
With your ViewPanel powered ON, follow the numbered steps in sequence as shown below.
Power light: Green =On Amber =Power

you selected.

To save your adjustments and exit all OSD screens, press the MENU button.
Press the ENTER button to display the adjustment screen for the control you want to adjust.

Contrast adjusts the contrast
between the background (black level) and the foreground (white level) of the screen image.

Clock Phase minimizes narrow
horizontal lines ("horizontal noise") and sharpens displayed characters of text.

the length of time the Main Menu or adjustment screen OSD (On Screen Display) is displayed on screen.

ViewMatch® Color provides
two preset color temperature options and a user-defined option.
[>] or [<] to highlight an option. 9300K is slightly bluish white,
ideal for use under fluorescent lights.
6500K (factory default) is warm­white, good for displaying a video image.
User allows you to adjust the intensities of R (red), G (green), and B (blue) individually.

OSD Position allows you to
select where the Main Menu or adjustment screen OSD (On Screen Display) will display.

Language allows you to
choose from one of five languages for the Main Menu and adjustment screens: English, German, French, Spanish, and Italian.

Mode Recall recalls the
factory default settings for most controls.
With "YES" selected, the press ENTER button to the recall factory default setting for all controls (except User Color).
If you change your mind and would
not like to recall factory default settings, highlight "NO" and press the ENTER button.
ViewMeter® displays the signal timing (resolution and refresh rate) coming from the video card in your computer.
For example,1024x768 / 60Hz means 1024x768 resolution at a refresh rate (vertical frequency) of 60 Her tz.
NOTE: If the signal timing coming from your video card is not one of the factory presets, it will not be recalled the next time you power-on the ViewPanel.
Tip: For the best results, adjust

Troubleshooting
No power
• Make sure power button (or switch) is ON.
• Make sure A/C power cord is securely connected to the AC/DC adapter supplied with the ViewPanel
®
, then connected to a power outlet.
• Plug another electrical device (like a radio) into the power outlet to verify that the outlet is supplying proper voltage.
Power on but no screen image
• Make sure the video cable supplied with the ViewPanel is tightly secured to the video output port on the back of the computer.
• Adjust brightness and contrast.
• Macintosh
®
and workstation users: your system may require a cable
adapter. Verify that the settings on the adapter are adjusted correctly.
Screen image with horizontal "noise" or unclear characters
• Adjust the CLOCK PHASE control (see page 8).
"Outside Range Limits" message appears
• Verify that the output from your computer's video card is within operating range: a refresh rate (ver tical frequency) between 56 and 75 Hertz, and a resolution of 1024 x 768 or lower. See the table on page 10 for supported timing modes.
"Check Signal Cable" message appears
• If this message appears, check to make sure the video signal cable is securely connected. Also check for Loose or broken pins in the cable connector could cause an improper connection. NOTE: the power LED will be lit amber.
• If the "Power Saving Mode" message briefly appears
and the power LED is
lit amber, the ViewPanel is functioning normally.

Cleaning the View Panel
®
• DO NOT APPLY PRESSURE TO THE SCREEN.
• NEVER POUR OR SPRAY ANY LIQUID DIRECTLY ONTO THE SCREEN OR CASE OF THE VIEWPANEL.
To clean the screen:
1 Gently wipe the screen with a clean camel hair lens brush, or a soft,
clean, lint-free cloth. This removes dust and other particles that can scratch the screen.
2 If still not clean, blow on the screen and gently wipe with a soft, clean,
lint-free cloth.
DISCLAIMER ViewSonic® does not recommend the use of any liquid cleaner s on the ViewPanel
screen or case. Chemical cleaner s have been reported to damage the screen and/or case of the ViewPanel. Further, Vie wSonic does not recommend applying pressure when wiping the ViewPanel screen clean. Vie wSonic will not be liable for dama ge resulting from use of liquid cleaner s or resulting from applying pressure to the screen.

What the warranty covers: ViewSonic
®
warrants its products to be free from defects in material and wo rkmanship during the warranty period. If a product pro ves to be defective in material or workmanship during the warranty period, ViewSonic will at its sole option repair or replace the product with a like product. Replacement product or parts may include remanufactured or refurbished parts or components.
How long the warranty is effective: The ViewSonic
VE150
ViewPanel® is warranted for three (3) years for all parts excluding the light source, three (3) years f or all labor, and one (1) year for the light source from the date of the first consumer purchase.
Who the warranty protects:
This warranty is valid only for the first consumer purchaser.
What the warranty does not cover:
1. Any product on which the serial number has been defaced, modified or removed. 2 . Damage, deterioration or malfunction resulting from:
a. Accident, misuse, neglect, fire, water, lightning, or other acts of nature, unauthorized product
modification, or failure to follo w instructions supplied with the product. b. Repair or attempted repair by anyone not authorized by ViewSonic. c. Any damage of the product due to shipment. d. Removal or installation of the product. e. Causes external to the product, such as electric power fluctuations or failure. f. Use of supplies or parts not meeting ViewSonic's specifications. g. Normal wear and tear. h. Any other cause which does not relate to a product defect.
3. Removal, installation, and set-up service charges.
How to get service:
1. For information about receiving service under warranty, contact ViewSonic Customer Support. See the back cover of this user's guide .
2. To obtain warranty service, you will be required to provide (a) the original dated sales slip, (b) your name, (c) your address, (d) a description of the problem, and (e) the serial number of the product.
3. Take or ship the product prepaid in the original container to your ViewSonic dealer, an y ViewSonic service center or ViewSonic.
4. For additional information or the name of the nearest ViewSonic service center, contact y our
ViewSonic dealer or ViewSonic.
Limitation of implied warranties:
THERE ARE NO WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED , WHICH EXTEND BEYOND THE DESCRIPTION CONTAINED HEREIN INCLUDING THE IMPLIED WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.
Exclusion of damages: VIEWSONIC’S LIABILITY IS LIMITED T O THE COST OF REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT OF THE
PRODUCT. VIEWSONIC SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR:
