Introduction
The information in this manual covers the installation and maintenance of the V9312H Environmental
Housing. This unit should only be installed by a qualified technician using approved materials in accordance
with national, state and local codes. Read these instructions through completely before attempting
installation.
Model V9312H series of compact weatherproof housings is designed for smaller outdoor CCTV applications.
A spring cover and latch provide easy access, and a weatherproof seal protects the camera/lens assembly
from moisture. A latch with a loop is provided for a padlock (not supplied). The viewing window is made from
polycarbonate Lexan for long lasting transparency. The housing is available in two model variations with
different features, including a heater and sunshield. Model V9312H is the basic housing; model V9312H-HS24 includes a 24 VAC heater and a sunshield. The term V9312H is used throughout this manual to refer to
both housings unless specifically stated otherwise.
Model V9312H-HS-24 is equipped with a strip heater that provides 25 watts of power and a sunshield. The
thermostatically-controlled heater goes on when the temperature drops to 50°F (10°C) and turns off when the
temperature reaches 60°F (16°C). The sunshield provides long-term protection from UV radiation and

Installation
Unpacking and Inspection
All Vicon equipment is tested and inspected before leaving the factory. It is the carrier’s responsibility to
deliver the equipment in the same condition as it left the factory.
Inspection For Visible Damage
Immediately inspect the cartons upon delivery. Make a note of any visible damage on all copies of the
carrier’s freight bill.
Make sure the carrier’s agent (the person making the delivery) signs the note on all copies of the bill. If the
agent does not have claim forms, contact the carrier’s office.
Inspection For Concealed Damage
As soon as possible after delivery, unpack the unit and inspect it for concealed damage. Do not discard the
carton or packing materials. If the unit is damaged, contact the carrier immediately and request forms for filing
a damage claim. Make arrangements for a representative of the carrier to inspect the damaged equipment.
If the equipment must be returned for repair, follow the Shipping Instructions at the end of this manual.
Mounting the Housing
Be sure the area around the selected location is clear of obstacles (such as steel beams, headers, pipes,
electrical wiring, etc.) which would interfere with the mounting of the housing. Route video, sync, and power
cables to the housing location.
NOTE ON POLYCARBONATE WINDOWS: Lexan polycarbonate plastic is one of the best and strongest of
modern plastics. However, virtually all plastics, including polycarbonates, can be etched by exposure to
various types of solvents. Do not place this housing in locations where such solvents may be in the air
in high concentrations.
There are three mounting holes on the bottom of the housing. Select a minimum of two (2) holes that best
mate with the mount used. Use 1/4-20 bolts and lock washers to mount the housing (install bolts facing
upward toward the housing). Refer to Figure 1.
Note: If one hole is not covered, fill it with a short screw and nut or silicone sealant to prevent water ingress.

Mounting Plate
Camera Installation
1. Disengage the spring latch to open the cover.
2. Remove the camera mounting plate from the housing by removing the two (2) Phillips head screws used
to secure the plate. In the V9312H-HS-24, the thermostat must be removed from the clip to access the
screw.
3. Mount the lens to be used on the camera according to the appropriate instruction manual.
Note: When positioning the camera/lens combination, make sure that the lens is fully extended (the shortest
focusing distance yields the greatest physical extension). Allow for this length, so that the lens always
clears the window. Certain lenses may have to be mounted at 90° to fit into the V9312H.
Caution: Maximum lens dimensions to fit the housing are width, 3.25 in. (82.5 mm) and height, 2.75 in.
(70 mm); however, to assure a full picture, make sure the front optics of the lens are not larger
than the clear window area (2.75 x 2.4 in., 70 x 61 mm).
4. Select the slot in the camera mounting plate which allows installation of the camera/lens with 1/4-in.
(6.4 mm) of space between the lens and the window. Then mount the camera to the mounting plate with
the supplied 1/4-20 screw, flat washer and lock washer.
5. Place the camera and plate back into the housing in a position where the lens just clears the window for
the greatest angle of view.
6. Replace the mounting plate screws to secure it in place. Replace the thermostat into the clip if it had been
removed.

Wiring the Unit
The V9312H housing is provided with two liquid-tight cable access fittings which allow routing of the video,
power and control cables to the inside of the housing. One fitting is a compression fitting; the other is a
conduit fitting, for use when conduit is used in an installation. A wiring diagram is provided in Figure 2 and on
the inside cover for reference.
1. Loosen the appropriate fittings and route the cables for video, input power, and control (if used) through
the fittings. See Figure 2.
2. Strip off approximately 1.5 inches (38 mm) of the outer cable covering. Remove approximately 0.25 in.
(6 mm) of insulation from the end of each conductor.
3. Connect the video, camera power, and lens cables (and control, if used) to the camera and lens.
4. Connect the input power wires to the proper terminals on the terminal board and tighten screws. Refer to
Figure 2, Wiring Diagram. Connect the branch ground wire to the ground lead with a wire nut. All wiring
should be in accordance with the National Electrical Code ANSI/NFPA 70.
5. Pull the excess slack out of the wires and tighten the fitting nut(s).
6. Use sealing plugs or an all-weather silicone sealant to fill the empty space or hole if the wire bundle does
not completely fill the tightened fitting(s) or if only one fitting is used.
7. Close the cover and fasten the latch loop. Use a padlock (not supplied) to prevent unauthorized entry.
