This wheelchair is made by qualified and committed personnel. It is designed and produced
according to high quality standards guarded by Vermeiren.
Thanks for your trust in the products of Vermeiren. To support you on the use of this wheelchair
and its operating options, this manual is offered. Please read it carefully; it will help you to get
familiar with the operation, capabilities and limitations of your wheelchair.
If you still have questions after reading this manual, do not hesitate to contact your specialist
dealer. He/she will be glad to help you on this subject.
Important note
To ensure your safety and to prolong the lifetime of your product, please tak e good care of it
and have it checked and/serviced on regular base.
The warranty of this product is based on normal use and maintenance as described in this
manual. Damage to your product caused by improper use or lack of maintenance will cause
the warranty to lapse.
This manual reflects the latest product development s. Vermeiren has the right to implement

1.1 Description
This Bobby 24 wheelchair is easy to operate and can be us ed indoor s as well as outdoors. It
is foldable which makes it very compact to store. It is available in multiple sizes.
Next picture shows all parts that are relevant for the user. In the operation and maintenance
section, these parts are described if applicable.

Before use
1.2 Expected lifespan
The average lifespan of your wheelchair i s 5 years. Depending on the frequency of use, driving
circumstances and maintenance, the lifespan of your wheelchair will increase of decrease.
1.3 Declaration of conformity
This product is certified for CE and is classified as a Medical device, Class I.
The CE mark indicates the conformity of the product with standards for
protection of health, safety and environment applied on products traded within
the European economic area.

2 Before use
2.1 Intended use
In this paragraph a brief description of the intended use of your wheelchair is given.
Additionally, relevant warnings are added to the instructions in the other paragraphs. In this
way we would like to make you aware of the possible m isuse that may appear.
• This wheelchair is suitable for indoor and outdoor use.
• This wheelchair is designed and produced solely to transport/transfer one (1) person with
a maximum weight of 115kg. It is not designed for transport of goods or objects, nor for
any other use than the transfer previously described.
• It is not designed or intended to be used as seat in a motor vehicle.
• The wheelchair can be operated by an attendant or by the user sitting in the wheelchair.
You should NOT use this wheelchair without attendant if you suffer from physical or
mental impairments that may put you, or other people, in danger when riding the
wheelchair. For this reason, consult your doctor first and make sure that your specialist
dealer is informed about his/her advice.
• If applicable, only use accessories and spare parts approved by Vermeiren.
Please read all technical details and limits of your wheelchair in §7.
2.2 General safety instructions
CAUTION
Keep next general warnings in mind during use:
• Do not use your wheelchair if you are under influence of alcohol, medicines or other
substances that may influence your riding abilities. T his counts also for your attendant,
operating the wheelchair.

• Be aware t hat some parts of your wheelchair may get very hot or cold due to ambient
temperature, solar radiation or heating devices. Be careful when touching. Wear
protective clothing if the weather is cold.
• Take note of the instructions for care and service. The manufacturer is not liable for
damage caused by improper servicing / care.
2.3 Symbols on the wheelchair
The symbols in following list are applicable for your wheelchair. Symbols can be found in the
relevant ISO standard (ISO 7000, ISO 7001 and IEC 417)

2.4 Transport, folding and storage
2.4.1 M oving out of the way
Move the wheelchair by using its wheels and roll it to the destination.
If this is not possible and folding is not desired, firmly grasp the frame with both hands and lift
it from the floor. Do not use foot or arm rests, or wheels to grasp the wheelchair.
2.4.2 Transport i n a vehicle

3.1 Parking brakes

CAUTION
An attendant should oper ate the brake lever if you have im pair ed mobility.
Make sure the wheelchair is on a flat horizontal surface before releasing the brakes.
Never release both brakes simultaneously.
Brakes may only be adj usted by your specialist dealer.
CAUTION
Your wheelchair is equipped with two manually-operated parking brakes. These brakes are
intended to prevent movement of the wheelchair when parked.
Releasing brakes [A]:
1. Hold one hand rim (13) tight with one hand.
2. Pull brake lever (14) of the OTHER wheel to the
REAR.
3. Repeat this for the second wheel and parking
brake.
Applying brakes [B]:
1. Hold one hand rim (13) tight with one hand.
2. Push brake lever (14) of the OTHER wheel to the
FRONT till you feel a distinctive loc k.
3. Repeat this for the second wheel and parking
brake.

Using your wheelchair
1. Position the wheelchair as close as possible to you when sitting in your chair, couch, seat
or bed.
2. Apply both parking brakes to block the movement, see §3.1.
3. Fold the footplates upwards to prevent standing on them. Or turn the footrests aside to free
the passage for transfer.
4. Tr ansfer to/from the wheelchair using t he strength of your arms or with the help of lifting
equipment.
Sitting in the wheelchair
1. Sit down on the seat with your lower back against the backrest.
2. Turn the footrests back to the front and put your feet on the footplates.
3. Make sure that your upper legs are horizontal and that your feet are in comfortable position;
adjust the wheelchair according to the instructions in § 3.3
3.3 Comfort adjustments
CAUTION
Check next adjustments while sitting in the wheelchair:
• Footrest: the length of the footrest is adapted to the length of your lower leg.
• Footplate: the angle of the footplate is adapted to the position of your feet.
• Parking brakes: both brak es operate smoothly and the wheels don’t move when brakes
are applied, see §3.1.
If further adju s tment is necessar y, contact your specialist dealer for support.
3.4 Riding
This paragraph is a first acquaintance with the operation of your wheelchair. Read the
complete manual first before you go for a ride.

1. Release the parking brakes or have them released by the attendant, while he/she is holding
the wheelchair to prevent movement, se e §3.1.
2. The attendant grasps the handgrips.

4. After stopping, apply the parking brakes while holding the wheelchair, see §3.1.
3.4.2 Ri di ng on your own
1. Release the parking brakes one by one, se e §3.1.
2. Move your hands to the highest position on both hand rims.
3. Lean forward and push/turn the hand rims forward until your arms are straightened.
4. Swing your arms loosely back to the topside of the hand rims and repeat the push
movement.
5. To stop: wait till the wheelchair stops and move forward/backward by operating the hand
rims.
6. Apply the parking brakes one by one, see §3.1.
3.4.3 Riding on slopes
CAUTION

When you stop on a (small) slope, use your brakes, since the wheelchair
moving unexpectedly.
Make sure all four wheel touch the ground while riding up or down a slope.
Take slopes as slow as possible.
1. If available, wear your safety belt.
2. If necessary and if possible, ask an attendant or a bystander to help
you.
3. Drive slowly and in a straight line. Lean slightly forward (A/B) when
going up the slope. Lean backwards, against the backrest when
going down the slope.
4. Never reverse on a slope.

Do not use your wheelchair on an escalator.
Riding without attendant
A practiced user can negotiate small steps or kerbs (up or down) by
himself:
1. Move forward approaching the kerb (A).
2. Make sure the footplates won’t touch the kerbs.
3. Lean backwards to reduce the pressure on the front wheels (B).
4. Move the wheelchair forward till the front wheels are on the
higher/lower part of the kerb.
5. Slowly ride the kerb up or down with the rear wheels. Hold the hand
rims firmly to control the movement.
An experienced user can climb higher steps or kerbs by himself:
1. Move forward approaching the kerb to climb.
2. Make sure the footplates won’t touch the kerbs.
3. Lean backwards till you balance on the rear wheels and move forward
while balancing on 2 wheels (B).
4. When the front w heel s are over the kerb, bend forward to get stability
(C).
5. Move forward by rolling the rear wheels on the kerb.
An experienced user can descend higher steps or kerbs by himself:
1. Revers the transfer so that rear wheels approach the kerb first (D).
2. Lean forward to move your centre of gravity to the front.
3. Move close to the kerb.
4. Slowly ride the kerb down backwards. Hold the hand rims firmly to
control the movement.

Riding with an attendant
Small kerbs (up or down) can be taken forward (E / F):
1. The attendant moves the wheelchair forward approaching the kerb.
Make sure the footplates won’t touch the kerbs.
2. Lean backwards to reduce the pressure on the front wheels.
3. The attendant holds the handles firmly while moving forward. If
necessary he uses the tip cap to keep the front wheels lifted till they
have passed the kerb rim.
4. The attendant releases the pressure on the handles and tip cap t o
put the front wheels on the ground.
5. Next, he holds the handles firmly while pushing the wheelchair with
the rear wheels up/down the kerb.
Negotiating small kerbs with attendant
Higher kerbs should be taken backwards
1. The attendant reverses the wheelchair so that rear wheels approach
the kerb first (G / H).
2. Going down: Lean forward (G) to move your centre of gravity to the
front.
Going up: Lean backward (H) to move your centre of gravity to the
back.
3. The attendant pulls the wheelchair gently from/on the kerb.

CAUTION
Never try to use stairs that are not appropriate for wheelchairs.
To use the stairs while sitting in your wheelchair, next instructions should be followed:
1. Remove the footrests, see §2.4.4.
2. One attendant tips the wheelchair slightly bac kwards by the handles.
3. The second attendant grabs the wheelchair at the front of the fra me ,
on both sides of the wheelchair.
4. Stay calm, avoid sudden movements and keep your arms inside the
wheelchair.
5. Both attendants lift and pull the wheelchair fr om step to ste p while
the rear wheels roll over the steps.
6. After using the stairs, mount the footrests back in place, see §2.4.3.

Regular care ensures that your wheelchair is preserved in a perfectly functional
condition.
Risk of injuries and damage
Repairs and replacements may only be undertaken by trained persons and only genuine
replacement parts of Vermeiren should be used.
The last page of this manual contains a registration form for the specialist dealer to
record each service.
The service frequency depends on the frequency and intensity of use. Contact your dealer to
agree to a common timetable for inspection/maintenance/repair.
Proper working of the brakes depends on the state of the tires, that can change due to

4.1 Points of maintenance

Before each use
Inspect next points:
• All parts: Present and undamaged or worn.
• All parts: Clean, see § 4.2.2.
• Wheels, seat, foot rests and footplates: Well secured.
• Condition of wheels/tires, see § 4.2.1;
• Condition of brakes, see § 4.2.1
• Condition of frame: No deformation, instability, weakness or loose connections
• Condition of folding mechanism: Properly working and locking.
• Seat and backrest: No excessive wear (like dented spots, damage or tears).
Contact your specialist dealer for possible repairs or part replacements.
If stored
Make sure that your wheelchair is stored dry to prevent mould to grow and damage the
upholstery.
4.2 Instructions of maintenance

Wipe all rigid parts of the wheelchair with a damp cloth (not drenched). If necessary, use a
mild soap, suitable for varnishes and synthetics.
The upholstery can be cleaned with lukewarm wat er and a mild soap. Do not use abrasive

2.1 Usage prévu
Ce paragraphe vous donne une brève description de l' usage prévu de votre fauteuil roulant.
Des avertissements pertinents ont également été ajoutés aux instructions dans les autres
paragraphes. Nous aimerions ainsi attirer votre attention sur un us age inapproprié éventuel
qui pourrait survenir.
• Ce fauteuil roulant convient à un usage à l'intérieur et à l’extérieur.
• Ce fauteuil roulant est conçu et fabriqué uniquement pour le transport d'une (1) personne
d'un poids maximum de 115 kg. Il n’est pas destiné au transport de biens ou d'objets, ni
à tout autre usage que le transport décrit précédemment.
• Il n’est pas conçu ou destiné à servir de siège dans un véhicule motorisé.
• Il peut être utilisé par un accompagnateur ou par l’ utilisateur assis sur le fauteuil roulant.
Vous ne devez PAS utiliser ce fauteuil roulant sans acco mpagnateur si vou s souffrez de
handicaps physiques ou mentaux qui pourraient vous mettre, vous-même ou d’autres
personnes, en danger pendant la conduite. C’est pourquoi vous devez d'abord consulter

Avant l'utilisation
• N'utilisez pas votre fauteuil roulant si vous êtes sous l'influence de l’alcool, de
médicaments ou d’autres substances qui peuvent influencer vos capacités de conduite.
Il en va de même pour votre accompagnateur actionnant le fauteuil roulant.
• N'oubliez pas que certaines parties de votre fauteuil roulant peuvent devenir très
chaudes ou très froides en fonction de la température ambiante, des rayons du solei l ou
des dispositifs de chauffage. Faites donc attention lorsque vous les touchez. Portez des
vêtements de production s'il fait froid.
• Veuillez suivre les instructions pour le nettoyage et les contrôles. Le fabricant n'est pas
responsable des dommages résultant d'une mauvaise inspection ou d'un mauvais
entretien.
2.3 Symboles sur le fauteuil roulant
Les symboles de la liste suivante concernent votre fauteuil roulant. Vous trouverez les
symboles dans les normes ISO correspondantes (ISO 7000, ISO 7001 et CEI 417).

2.4 Transport, pliage et entreposage
2.4.1 Dégagement de l’espace
Déplacez le fauteuil roulant en utilisant ses roues et roulez-le vers la destination.
Si ce n’est pas possible et si vous ne pouvez pas le plier, saisissez fermement le cadre des
deux mains et soulevez-le du sol. N'utilisez pas les palettes repose-pieds ou accoudoirs, ou
encore les roues pour saisir le fauteuil roulant.
2.4.2 Transport dans un véhicule
AVERTISSEMENT
1. En tant qu'utilisateur, transférez vers un siège de la voiture, voir §3.2.
2. Pliez le fauteuil roulant dans ses dimensions les plus compactes selon les instructions in
§ 2.4.4.
3. Rangez le fauteuil roulant et ses roues dans le coffre du véhicule. Si le compartiment
bagages et passagers n’est PAS séparé ou fermé, fixez fermement le fauteuil roulant
dans le véhicule. Vous pouvez également utiliser la ceinture de sécurité du véhicule.

Utilisation de votre fauteuil roulant
ATTENTION
Votre fauteuil roulant est équipé de deux freins de stationnement manuels. Ces freins sont
destinés à prévenir le mouvement du fauteuil roulant lorsqu’il est garé.
Relâcher les freins [A] :
1. Saisissez une main courante (13) d'une main.
2. Tirez le levier de frein (14) de L’autre roue vers
l’ARRIÈRE.
3. Répétez cette opération pour les deuxièmes roue
et frein de stationnement.
Actionner les freins [B] :
1. Saisissez une main courante (13) d'une main.
2. Tirez le levier de frein (14) de L’AUTRE roue vers
L’AVANT jusqu'à ce que vous entendiez
clairement un déclic.
3. Répétez cette opération pour les deuxièmes roue
et frein de stationnement.

3. Repliez la palette repose-pieds vers le haut pour éviter de vous reposer sur elle. Ou
tournez les cale-pieds sur le côté pour libérer le passage pour le transfert.
4. Faites le transfert du ou vers le fauteuil roulant en utilisant la force de vos bras ou avec
l’aide d'un équipement de levage.
S’asseoir sur le fauteuil roulant
1. Asseyez-vous sur le siège, le bas du dos contre le dossier.
2. Retournez les cale-pieds vers l'avant et posez vos pieds sur les palettes repose-pieds.
3. Assurez-vous que le haut de vos jambes est à l’horizontale et que v os pieds sont dans une
position confortable ; ajustez le fauteuil roulant selon les instructions du § 3.3.

• Cale-pied : la longueur du cale-pied est adaptée à celle du bas de votre jambe.
• Palette repose-pieds : l’angle de la palette repose-pieds est adapté à la position de vos
pieds.
• Freins de stationnement : les deux freins fonctionnent en douceur et les roues ne
bougent pas quand les freins sont actionnés, voir §3.1.
Si un ajustement supplémentaire est nécessaire, contactez votre commerçant spécialisé pour
qu’il vous aide.
3.4 Rouler
Ce paragraphe est la première approche du fonctionnement de votre fauteuil roulant.
Lisez la totalité du manuel avant de vous lancer dans la conduite.
