The Verilink 1024 chassis is designed to hold from one to twenty-fou r modules.
The front view figure shows the chassis with brackets for a 19-inch rack. The rear panel NMS and power connections are described on the reverse side.
Each module inte rf ac es the c ha ssis bac kpl ane b oar d through two card connectors. With these connectors, each module receives a 48 VDC power source and exchanges control signals with the rear panel chassis connectors. The chas sis cont ains no ac tive components. Rack mounting bracket s are reversible for sta ndard 19- and 23-inch racks. To install the chassis in a rack, insert two screws through both the left and the right mounting b rackets. Please note: In order to
meet GR-1089 grounding requirements, the chassis must be installed using t hread-forming screws with external tooth lock washers.

NMS Connections
The NMS ports are used to connect the chassis into the Verilink EM8100A element mana ger. Within the chassis, each unit is ph ysic ally co nnecte d to the next unit in a daisy-chain fashion. Two 6-pin modular connectors are provided for bot h the A side and the B side. Each unit in the NMS chain must have a unique address. All units in the chain must use the same NMS bit rate.

Power Connections
The chassis is designed with two power buses connected to TB1 (te rminal block 1). The A bus feeds the slots 1 through 12 . The B bus feeds slots 13 through 24. Connect a Frame Gr ound lea d (18- to 20 - gaug e wire) to pin 2 before applying power to the unit. Connect the other end of this lead to an appropriate frame ground .
NOTE: The maximum current draw of a fully loaded chassis i s 4 amperes. The Verilink 1042 power shelf can su pply a ma ximum of 4 amperes (refer to the c onfiguration guide for specifications). Ensure that the proper fuse size is used.
