Instant Ear
Thermometer
2 - FAQ’s
GENERAL PRODUCT AND SAFETY INFORMATION
What are the advantages
of measuring body temperature at the ear?
The hypothalamus, which is the part of the brain that regulates
body temperature, is very close to the eardrum. Ear thermometers,
unlike oral, rectal, or underarm thermometers, can detect real-time
changes in body temperature. Measuring temperature at the ear is
also faster and less intrusive than other methods.
How does the Instant Ear Thermometer work?
The lens captures energy emitted from the eardrum and
surrounding tissue and the thermometer converts this energy into
a temperature reading.
Is the thermometer dangerous or harmful?
Not at all. The thermometer only receives heat and infrared
energy; it does not radiate or emit anything.
Is the thermometer
safe for children and infants?
Absolutely. The probe can be fully inserted into children’s and
infants’ ears. The probe is too short to reach the eardrum, and the
ear canal is smaller than the thermometer’s probe, so it cannot
reach any sensitive tissues or structures in the ear. Be sure to
follow the instructions, inserting the probe snugly but stopping
when resistance is felt.

PROBE COVERS
Should I use probe covers
with the Instant Ear Thermometer?
No. The thermometer is calibrated to work without the use of
probe covers, for your convenience. Always clean the lens before
and after use to maintain accuracy and prevent crosscontamination.
ACCURACY
Is my ear thermometer as accurate
as devices used in hospitals?
This thermometer is designed and manufactured to meet the
standards used for professional thermometers, and its accuracy
has been proven in clinical use.
How do ear thermometer measurements compare to
temperature readings taken
using other methods?
Ear measurements and oral measurements are comparable; the
normal range of temperatures is 97.0° F to 99.0° F (36.1° C – 37.2°
C). Rectal temperatures are typically 1.0° F (0.5° C) higher, while
underarm temperatures are 1.0° F (0.5° C) lower.

ACCURACY
Why do multiple measurements
produce dierent readings?
Many factors may contribute to differing results. To prevent
different readings, clean the lens before and after each use, use the
same ear for each measurement, position the probe in the same
way each time, and wait at least 10 seconds between readings.
Is the thermometer still accurate after being
dropped or subjected to another heavy impact?
Your thermometer performs a self-test each time it is turned on.
As long as the self-test display (all indicators shown on the display
at once) is shown when the thermometer is activated, an accurate
reading should occur if proper technique is used.

CLEANING
How often should I clean the thermometer?
The lens should be cleaned before and after each use, to eliminate
earwax and ngerprints and ensure the accuracy of your readings.
Use an alcohol swab, or a soft cotton swab moistened with 70%
isopropyl alcohol, to gently cleanse the probe lens and thermometer
casing. Never use a paper towel to clean your thermometer, as it may
scratch the lens. Do not use cleaning agents other than alcohol to
clean the thermometer; abrasives, thinners or gasoline will damage
the unit. Do not immerse the thermometer or allow liquid to enter
the casing.
Is the thermometer waterproof?
The probe tip is waterproof, but other parts of the unit (such as the
display, battery cover, or buttons) are vulnerable to water damage.
USING THE THERMOMETER
Can the thermometer be used on infants?
What about the elderly?
The thermometer is safe and accurate for all ages, and is especially
benecial for use in infants and children due to it’s non-invasive
nature and the speed with which a reading can be taken. Keep in
mind, illness may be present even without an elevated
temperature, particularly in the elderly, in infants under 3 months
of age, and those with compromised immune systems. If illness is
apparent without a fever, consult with a healthcare professional.
Never leave children unsupervised with a thermometer.
