Introduction
The Vello BG-S3-2 battery grip offers extended shooting
time and comfort when shooting in a vertical (portrait)
orient ation. The grip is compatible with the Sony Alpha
a7 II series mirrorless c ameras and accepts up to two Sony
NP-FW50 rechargeable batteries. It offers an alternate
shut ter release button, AF/MF/AEL but ton, three custom
buttons, and front and rear dials, making the grip ideal for
shooting por trait photography. There is also a convenient
control-lock switch to prevent unwanted triggering of the
grip’s controls. And for connec tivity, there is a mount on
the bot tom for standard tripo ds, and a mount on the top
for hand straps.

manual before using the BG-S3-2
battery grip.

Precautions
1.
The BG-S3-2 should be used only with compatible
devices specified in this manual.
2.
Use only with the batteries and battery holder s
recommended in this manual.
3.
If you notice smoke, noise, or an unusual smell from
the bat tery pack, discontinue use immediately. Remove
the bat teries, and t ake the device to a Vello authorized
reseller.
4.
The bat tery level may not display properly if batteries
are installed before mounting the grip.
5. Remove batteries from the grip when not in use.
6. Do not attempt to disassemble.
7.
Avoid exposing this produc t to water or ex treme
humidity, and keep i t in a cool, dry place.
8. Keep out of reach of children.

Attaching the Battery Grip
1.
Ensure that the camera
power is turned off. Open
the camera’s bat tery door,
and remove the bat tery.
2.
Remove the camera’s
battery door by pulling the
release latch on the inside of
the door a s indicated above.

Store the camera’s battery
door in the BG-S3-2’s
battery door compartment.
Align the door with the
compartment’s slot as
indica ted, and slide the door
in. Press the door’s release
latch to lock it in place.

4.
Swing and lock the door
shut.
5.
Insert the BG-S3-2’s
electrical contacts into the
camera’s battery chamber,
and seat the camera onto
the grip’s mounting screw.
6.
Rotate the thumbwheel
lock until secure.

Inserting the Batteries
1.
Turn the camera power off.
Rotate the grip’s batter y
compartment lock to Open,
and open the door.
2.
Press the battery tr ay
latch to the left to release
the bat tery tray. Pull the
tray out of the bat ter y
compartment.

Align your battery’s
contacts with either battery
tray slot 1 or 2, and insert
the bat tery. Make sure the
battery is secure. Insert
batteries into one or both
slots

Slide the battery tr ay
into the grip’s battery
compartment, close the
door, and rota te the batter y
compartment lock to Close.
5.
Turn on the camera’s
power, and make sure the
grip’s control lock switch is
set to On.
Note: When removing the grip,
turn off the camera power and
remove the batteries.

Battery Status
When two batteries a re installed in the BG -S3-2, your camera will au tomatically selec t the battery with less power
remaining. The batter y level will appear on your camera’s LCD, with the bat tery level percentage for only the ba ttery
in use. When the batter y is depleted, your camera will switch to the other battery in the grip.

This VELLO product is warranted to the original purchaser to be free from defects in materials and workmanship
under normal consumer use for a period of one (1) year from the original purchase date or thirty (30) days after
replacement, whichever occurs later. The warranty provider’s responsibility with respect to this limited warranty
shall be limited solely to repair or replacement, at the provider’s discretion, of any product that fails during normal
use of this product in its intended manner and in its intended environment. Inoperability of the product or part(s)
shall be determined by the warranty provider. If the product has been discontinued, the warranty provider reserves
the right to replace it with a model of equivalent quality and function.

provides you with specific legal rights, and you may also have additional rights that vary from state to state.
To obtain warranty coverage, contact the Vello Customer Service Department to obtain a return merchandise
authorization (“RMA”) number, and return the defective product to Vello along with the RMA number and proof of
purchase. Shipment of the defective product is at the purchaser’s own risk and expense.
