Thank you for choosing Vello and congratulations on your new BG-C3 battery grip purchase. Enjoy the many benefits that a battery grip offer s, such as extended shooting time and more cont rol and comfor t when shooting in a ver tical (portrait) orientation.
The Vello BG- C3 is compatible with the Canon 20D, 30D, 40 D, And 50D SLR cameras . The BG-C3 accept s two Canon BP-511A rechargeable batteries, or six AA batteries (alkaline, Ni-MH, lithium, or nickel-manganese) can be used instead for added convenience . The BG-C3 is equipped with an alte rnate shut ter -release but ton, AF point selection, AE lock/ FE lock button, and main dial for shooting in a ver tical position.
Please read through this entire manual before using the BG- C3 battery gr ip.

Precautions
1. The BG-C3 should only be used with compatible
devices specified in this manual.
2. Only use with batteries and batte ry holders
recommended in this manual.
3. Cover the power terminals wi th the contact cap
when the BG-C3 is not in use. This prevents electrical shorts caused by metal objects touching the power ter minals.
4. When the battery holder is removed from the
grip, remove the batteries or place the holder in a container to preve nt electr ical shor ts caused by contact wi th other met al object s.
5. If you notice smoke , an unusual smell or noise from
the battery pack, discontinue use immediately.
Remove the bat ter ies and take the device to a Vello authorized reseller.
6. Turn the grip power off when not shooting
vertically.
7. The battery level may not display properly if
batteries are inser ted before mounting the grip.
8. Remove bat ter ies from the grip when not in use.
9. Do not attempt to disassemble.
10. Avoid water or extreme humidity and keep in a
dry and cool place.
11. Keep out of reach of children.

Attaching The Grip

1. Ensur e that t he power is
turned off on the camer a and that the power switch is set to OFF on the battery grip.
2. Remove the bat ter y
from the camera battery compar tment.

3. 40D/50D: Open the
camera battery chamber cover at a 35º angle and gently pull the cover to remove it.
20D/30D: Refer to illus tration (B) above .

4. To prevent loss, place the
camera battery chamber cover into the BG-C3 battery chamber holder.
5. Remove the protective
cap and connect the BG­C3 grip to the camer a, while aligning the grip’s mounting screw with the camera’s tripod socket.
6. Rotate the attachment
wheel in the direc tion shown by the ar row until it is firmly tightened.
When removing the gr ip, turn the camera power off, remove batteries, and replace protective contact cap.

Inserting Batteries
1. Ensur e that t he power is
turned off on the camer a and gr ip. Slide the battery compartment lever in the direction indicated above and open the battery chamber door. Press both release levers outward and remove the AA battery holder.
2. Canon B P-511A Batteries:
Insert up to two batteries by slid ing them int o any slot inside the BG-C3 batter y grip, while ensur ing the correct orientation as shown on the battery door compartment. Close the compar tment cover.

3. AA Batteries: Place six
new AA batteries of the same type into the AA battery holder as shown, while ensuring that they are in the correct or ient ation.

4. Slide the AA holder into
the gr ip until it clicks into place. Close the bat ter y compar tment.
To remove either the batteries or the battery holder, hold down on t he two battery release lever s to unlock.
5. Switch the grip power
to ON and then turn on the camer a’s power. Check t he bat ter y level in the control panel or viewfi nder.

6. Household Power Outlet:
The Canon ACK- E8 AC Power Adapter Kit (sold separately) can be connected to the gr ip. Place the DC coupler through the small groove on the back of the grip. Ensure that the cord doesn’t get pinched by the battery holder.

Warranty
Vello provides a limited warranty that this product is free from defects in materials and work-
manship to the original purchaser under normal use for a period of one (1) year from the
original purchase date. Vello’s responsibility with respect to this limited warranty shall be lim-
ited solely to repair or replacement, at its option, of any product which fails during normal
consumer use. This warranty does not extend to damage or failure which results from misuse,
neglect, accident, alteration, abuse, improper installation or maintenance. To obtain a replace-
ment during the time of this warranty, please return the defective item with proof of purchase
along with an RMA number to the place of purchase. This warranty gives you specifi c legal
rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state.
