Introduction

Thank you for choosing Vello and congratulations on your new BG-C12 battery grip purchase. Enjoy the many benefits that a bat tery gr ip offer s, such as exte nded shoot ing time an d more contr ol and comfor t when shooting in a vertical (portrait) orientation.

The Vello BG-C12 is compatible with the C anon 7D Mark I I DSLR cam era. The B G-C12 accept s two Cano n LP-E6 r echargeable batterie s, or six AA batteries (alkal ine, Ni-MH, li thium, or n ickel-ma nganese) ca n be used instead for added convenience. The BG- C12 is equipped with an alternate shutt er- release b utton, AF area sele ction but ton, AF st art button, A F point selection, AE lock/FE lock button, multi-controller button, multi -function button, and m ain dial for shooting in a vertical position.

Please read through t his entire manual before using the BG -C12 battery grip.

Precautions

1. The BG -C12 should be used only with compatible

devices specif ied in this m anual.

2. Use only with batteries and bat tery ho lders

recommended in this manual.

3. Cover the power terminals with t he contact cap

when the BG-C12 is not in use. Th is prevent s elec trical shorts cau sed by metal objec ts touchin g the power terminals.

4. When the battery holder is removed from t he

grip, r emove the batteries or place the holde r in a conta iner to prevent electric al short s caused by contact with other metal objects.

5. If you notice smoke , an unusual smell or

noise f rom the batter y pack, discontinue use immediately. Remove the batteries and t ake the

device to a Vello autho rized reseller.

6. Set t he gr ip’s control-lock switch to the locked

position when not shooting vertically.

7. The bat ter y level may not display proper ly if

batteries are i nserted before mounting the g rip.

8. Remove bat ter ies from the grip when not in use.

9. Do not attempt to dis assemble.

10. Avoid water or e xtr eme humidity a nd kee p in a

dry and cool place.

11. Keep out of reach of children.

Contact Cap

Protec ts grip contacts. Keep covered when the grip is not in use.

Electrical Contacts

Communicates with the camera electronics.

Mounting Screw

Aligns with the c amera’s tripod socket.

Guide Pin

Helps align the ca mera to the grip.

Battery Tray Lever

Locks and unlocks the battery compartment door.

Battery Tray Compartment

Houses the bat tery tray.

DC Coupler Cord Mount

Groove for use with the Canon AC Power Adapter (ACK-E6).

Control-Lock Switch

To prevent accidental triggering, the control-lock switch (labeled OFF ON) dis ables or enables the BG-C12’s controls. Your camera will continue to draw power from the BG-C12 when the switch is in the OFF position. Unlock prior to use by switching to the ON position. The control lock is not a power switch.

Attaching The Grip

1. Ensure that the power is

turn ed of f on the camera and that the control-l ock switch is set to OFF on t he battery grip.

2. Remove the battery

from the cam era battery compartment.

3. Ope n the camera

battery chamber cover and remove as indicated above.

4. To prevent loss, place t he

battery chamber door into the BG-C12 batter y door compartment. Align your camera’s batte ry chamber door wit h the BG-C12 battery door compartment. Insert the door’s bottom pin (1)

into the compartment. Pull the door’s release latch down (2) and insert the top of the door into the com par tment (3) as indicated by the arrows. Swing t he door shut to lock it in place.

5. Remove the p rote ctive

cap and connect the BGC12 grip to t he camera, while aligning the grip’s mount ing screw wi th the camera’s tripod socket.

6. Rotate the attachment

whee l in the dire ction shown by the ar row until it is f irmly tightened.

When removing the grip, turn the camera power of f, remove batteries, and replace protective contact cap.

Inserting Batteries

1. Ensure that the power is

turn ed of f on the camera and the grip. Use your fingernail to flip out t he battery tray l ever so you can rot ate and pull as indicated above, and slide the bat tery tray out of the grip.

2. Can on LP- E6 bat ter ies:

Insert up to two batteries by placing them into either slot in the bat ter y tr ay, while ensu ring the correct orie ntation as shown on the tray.

3. AA batteries: Place six

new AA batt eries of the same t ype into th e AA battery holder as shown, while ensu ring that they are in the corr ect orientation.

Make sure the camera's power switch is in the Off position before mounting the DC coupler.

4. Rotate the batt er y tray

lever counterclockwise and slide the batter y tray all the way into the grip. Rotat e the lever clo ckwise and push it back into place to lock t he tr ay.

5. Switch th e grip control-

lock to ON and then tu rn on the camera’s power. Check t he bat tery level in the contro l pane l or viewﬁnder.

6. Hou sehold Power Outl et:

The Canon ACK-E6 AC Power Adapter K it (sold separately) can be conne cted to the grip. Place the DC coupler through th e small groove on the back of th e grip. Ensure that the cord doesn’t get pinched by t he battery holder.

AA bat teries do not provide as much s hooting time as LP-E6 re chargeable batter ies. Performance of A A batteries may also b e dependent on brand and storage conditions. A A batteries may not function under 68ºF (20º C).

Please note: When using the A A batter y tray, the battery indica tor will only work with Ni-MH batteries. This produc t is not comp atible with Duracell® brand alkaline batteries.

When the camera’s internal GPS is enabled, the camera will continue to draw p ower from the b atter y, even when the camera is turned o.

ONE-YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY

This VELLO product is warranted to the original purchaser to be free from defects in materials and workmanship under normal consumer use for a period of one (1) year from the original purchase date or thirty (30) days after replacement, whichever occurs later. The warranty provider’s responsibility with respect to this limited warranty shall be limited solely to repair or replacement, at the provider’s discretion, of any product that fails during normal use of this product in its intended manner and in its intended environment. Inoperability of the product or part(s) shall be determined by the warranty provider. If the product has been discontinued, the warranty provider reserves the right to replace it with a model of equivalent quality and function.

To obtain warranty coverage, contact the Vello Customer Service Department to obtain a return merchandise authorization (“RMA”) number, and return the defective product to Vello along with the RMA number and proof of purchase. Shipment of the defective product is at the purchaser’s own risk and expense.
