Using the External Antenna
The External Antenna is used to enhance reception in areas where the audio signal is weak. It can be easily repositioned as needed if audio signal strength changes during travel.
Plug the Antenna’s barrel connector into the External Antenna Port on the Dock and screw either the suction cup or clip into the wing antenna end. Attach the wing antenna end:
• to the lower passenger side front window (or other flat surface location near the vehicle antenna) using the supplied suction cup, or
• to the sun visor, dashboard, air vents, etc. using the supplied clip.
CAUTIONS
Position the External Antenna so that it will not become tangled, crimped or damaged; and make sure it does not impede the driver’s access to vehicle controls (turn signals, etc.) or visibility.
NEVER position the External Antenna in front of an air bag.

Operating the Unit
Press any button for 1 second to turn the unit ON. The left and right arrow buttons are the Station Select buttons. Pressing them cycles
forward or backward through the preset/user-programmed FM stations. Tune your vehicle FM stereo to the same station. Press the “Play” button on your iPod
®
.
Use your vehicle’s radio controls to adjust volume, balance, etc., just as you would any other radio station.
Press and hold any two buttons at the same time for 2 seconds to turn the unit OFF.
This will power off the FM transmitter and LCD backlight at the same time.
FM Station Selection
The
VEC431
features 14 preset stations that can be reprogrammed as needed to achieve the best reception (see “Specifications” for this unit’s operating range of frequencies). The preset numbers and their corresponding FM stations are shown on the backlit LCD display as follows:
Programming Stations
If you need to reprogram the preset stations, choose FM stations on your vehicle stereo that are free of strong outside audio signals.
With the unit turned ON, press and hold the center button for 2 seconds to enter Program Mode.
Press the left or right arrow buttons until the preset number you want to change is displayed (the currently stored FM station will be listed on the right side of the LCD display).
Press and hold the center button for 1 second. Press the left or right arrow buttons to set the desired FM station. Press and hold the center button again for 1 second to store. The unit will automatically exit Program Mode when you are through.
Note: The same factors that influence vehicle radio reception in general will naturally
affect signal strength of the VEC431. For example, there are cases in dense metropolitan areas where a local station’s audio signal may “bleed” over to adjacent frequencies. Reception may vary depending upon location as you travel.
Experiment when programming your preset stations to find the clearest sound with the least interference.
An External Antenna is supplied to supplement your vehicle antenna.
