2. Safety Information
FOR COMMERCIAL USE ONLY.
When using the vacuum cleaner, basic safety precautions should always be observed, including the following:
1. This appliance is for dry use only and is not to be used or stored outdoors or in wet conditions.
2. Turn off the vacuum cleaner controls before connecting to or disconnecting from the mains supply.
3. Always unplug the vacuum cleaner before connecting or disconnecting the vacuum hose.
4. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
5. This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
6. Use only as described in this manual. Use only the manufacturer’s recommended attachments.
7. Do not use the vacuum cleaner with a damaged cord or plug. Do not use the vacuum cleaner if it has been dropped, damaged, left outdoors or dropped into water. Return the vacuum cleaner to a Vax Authorised Service Agent or suitably qualified person for examination, repair or adjustment.

Regularly examine the power cord for damage, such as cracking or ageing. If damage is found replace the cord before further use.
8. Do not pull or carry by the cord. Do not use the cord as a handle, close a door on the cord or pull the cord around sharp edges or corners. Do not run the vacuum cleaner over the cord. Keep the cord away from heated surfaces.
9. Do not handle the plug or vacuum cleaner with wet hands. Do no

11. Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers and all parts of the body away from openings and moving parts.
12. Do not pick up hot coals, cigarette butts, matches or any hot, smoking or burning objects.

Do not pick up flammable, hazardous dust or combustible materials (lighter fluid, petrol, kerosene, etc) or use in the presence of explosive liquids or vapours.
14. Do not vacuum up harmful or toxic material (chlorine bleach, ammonia, drain cleaner, etc).
15. Do not vacuum up hard or sharp objects such as glass, nails, screws, coins, etc.
16. Do not use without the filters in place.
17. Use extra care when vacuuming on stairs.
18. Keep vacuuming area well lit.
19. Store the vacuum cleaner indoors in a cool, dry area.
20. Turn off the switch before unplugging.
21. Use only CE-approved 13 amp extension cords. Non­approved extension cords may overheat. Care should be taken to arrange the cord so that the cord cannot be pulled or tripped over.
22. Regularly examine the supply cord for damage, such as cracking or ageing. If damage is found replace the cord before further use.
WARNING: Always switch off and unplug the vacuum cleaner from the electrical outlet before
assembling, opening or emptying.
CAUTION: The vacuum cleaner is a very powerful
unit. Before plugging the cord into the outlet make sure the switch is in the ‘off’ position. Hold the vacuum cleaner firmly when starting and in use.
IMPORTANT: If the inlet is blocked, switch off
the vacuum cleaner and remove the blockage(s) before re-starting the vacuum cleaner.
IMPORTANT: Changing the paper dust bag
improves performance. Make sure all filters are replaced back into the vacuum cleaner before using. Vax recommends cleaning the pre-motor filter every month and the exhaust filter every 9-12 months.
This appliance is suitable for commercial use.

3. How to Assemble
NOTE: To ensure proper operation of the cleaner, verify that the rubber O-ring is in place and tighten all collars.
To attach the lower handle, align with nozzle opening in the base of the cleaner (Fig.3/1). Push together firmly and turn the knob clockwise to tighten (Fig.3/2).
To attach the bag, hold the handle and firmly push into lower handle (Fig.3/3). Turn the top knob counterclockwise to tighten and snap bag clip onto lower handle (Fig.3/4).
To attach the upper handle, align with middle section of cleaner and push firmly into place (Fig.3/5). Turn the knob clockwise to tighten (Fig.3/6).
To keep the cord out of the way while vacuuming, snap it into the cord clip on the back of the upper handle (Fig.3/7).

4. How to Operate
WARNING: Fully assemble before operating.
Plug the extension cord firmly into the cord extension connector making sure that both ends are completely engaged.
NOTE: Use only a 3-core 1.0mm2H05VV-F extension cord with this cleaner. Using a cord of different type may result in increased risk of fire or electric shock.
To prevent the cords from coming apart while vacuuming, create a loophole with the extension cord and slide through opening at top of cord lock (Fig.4/2). Allow loophole to slip over hook at bottom of cord lock then remove excess slack by pulling the long end of the extension cord (Fig.4/3).
Plug extension cord into electrical outlet. Turn power switch to the “ON“ position.
Tilt the cleaner back before you start vacuuming. At the same time, use your foot to press the base down onto the carpet.
For tidy cord storage, wrap cord around upper and lower cord wraps on back of cleaner.

5. Paper Bag: Removal & Replacement
WARNING: To reduce the risk of injury from moving parts - unplug from servicing.
NOTE: Cleaner MUST have paper bag in place at all times.
Remove Old Bag
Unzip the soft outer bag.
Insert hand into the top of the cloth bag and grasp top of paper bag collar. Pull collar away from the dirt tube. Dispose of old paper bag.
To install new bag
Install the paper bag into the outer cloth bag. Be sure paper bag is fully extended inside the cloth bag.
Push collar of paper bag onto the dirt tube past the raised tabs on the sides of the dirt tube to ensure bag is securely in place.

6. Belt or Brush Bar: Removal & Replacement
Tool required: Phillips Screwdriver
WARNING: To reduce the risk of injury from moving parts - uplug before servicing.
To Remove New Belt
Turn cleaner over. Base should lay flat and face up. To remove nozzle guard, remove two (2) screws near rollers (Fig.6/1).
Release the nozzle guard by pulling tab toward the front of the cleaner and rotate/pivot the nozzle guard up to lift off (Fig.6/2).
Be sure belt is off motor shaft. Lift and remove brush bar. Dispose of old belt (Fig.6/3).

To Replace New Belt
Slip brush bar through belt. Place belt in area of brush bar without bristles (Fig.6/4).
Loop belt around motor shaft (Fig.6/5).
With new belt in place, pull and slide brushroll into nozzle making sure that the brush bar end caps are in the correct orientation (Fig.6/6). Rotate brushroll manually to make sure belt is properly aligned.
To reassemble the nozzle guard, align the three (3) tabs on the front of the nozzle guard with the slots in the base. Rotate/pivot the nozzle guard back into position making sure that the tab is fully engaged back by the rear wheel.
Replace the two (2) screws to secure nozzle guard.

7. Edge Cleaning Bristles: Removal & Replacement
Tool required: Phillips Screwdriver
WARNING: To reduce the risk of injury from moving parts - uplug before servicing.
To Replace Edge Cleaning Brushes
Remove two (2) screws from each edge cleaning bristle.
Remove and dispose of old bristles and replace with new bristles on each side.
Replace all four (4) screws to secure.

8. Troubleshooting
WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury, unplug the vacuum cleaner before servicing.
PROBLEM: Vacuum cleaner won't run Cause: Not properly plugged into electrical outlet.
Solution: Plug unit in firmly. Cause: Cord Extension Connector and Power
Cord not fully connected or unconnected completely.
Solution: Firmly push cords together until they are
fully connected.
Cause: Blown fuse or tripped breaker. Solution: Check fuse or breaker in home. Replace fuse /
reset breaker.
Cause: Needs service. Solution: Take to service centre
or call 0870 1129 145.
PROBLEM: Cleaner won’t pick up/loss of suction. Cause:
Paper bag not installed correctly.
Solution: Review paper bag removal and
replacement - p6.
Cause: Paper bag is full. Solution: Remove/replace paper bag - p6.
Cause: Brushroll worn. Solution: Replace brushroll - p8.
Cause: Broken or worn belt. Solution: Replace belt - p8.
PROBLEM: Dust escaping from the vacuum cleaner. Cause:
Paper bag is full.
Solution: Replace paper bag - p6. Cause: Paper bag is not installed correctly.
Solution: Review paper bag removal and
replacement - p6.
