2. Safety Information
For Household Use Only
When using the vacuum cleaner, basic safety precautions should always be observed, including the following:
1. Only use the vacuum cleaner indoors on dry surfaces.
2. Turn off the vacuum cleaner controls before connecting or disconnecting from the mains supply.
3. Close attention is necessary when used by or near children. Do not allow children to use as a toy.
4. This appliance is not for use by persons (including children) with reduced mental, physical or sensory capabilities, or lack of experience or knowlegde, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsable for their saftey.
5. Use only as described in this manual.
6. Do not use the vacuum cleaner if it has been dropped, damaged, left outdoors or dropped into water. Do not use the vacuum cleaner with a damaged cord or plug. If the adaptor is damaged, return the vacuum cleaner to a Vax Authorised Service Agent or suitably qualified person for examination, repair or adjustment.
7. Do not pull or carry the adaptor by the cord. Do not use the cord as a handle, close a door on the cord or pull the cord around sharp edges or corners. Do not run the vacuum cleaner over the cord. Keep the cord away from heated surfaces.
8. Do not handle the adaptor or vacuum cleaner with wet hands. Do not use outdoors or on wet surfaces.
9. Do not put any objects into openings. Do not use with any openings blocked and do not restrict air flow. Keep all openings free of dust, lint, hair or anything that may reduce airflow.
10. Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers and all parts of the body away from openings and moving parts.
11. Do not pick up hot coals, cigarette butts, matches or any hot, smoking or burning objects.
12.
Do not pick up flammable or combustible materials (lighter fluid, petrol, kerosene, etc) or use in the presence of explosive liquids or vapours.
13. Do not vacuum up harmful or toxic material (chlorine bleach, ammonia, drain cleaner, etc).
14. Do not vacuum up hard or sharp objects such as glass, nails, screws, coins, etc.
15. Do not use without the filters in place.
16. Take extra care when vacuuming on stairs.
17. Keep vacuuming area well lit.
18. Store the vacuum cleaner indoors in a cool, dry area.
IMPORTANT: Washing filters improves vacuum performance. Make sure the filter is completely
dry before inserting back into the vacuum cleaner.
This vacuum cleaner is intended for household use only and not for commercial or industrial use.

3. How to Assemble
Attach Handle
With upper handle button towards the back of the cleaner, push the upper handle into the lower handle until button snaps into position (Fig.3/1).
4. Charging
Attach Handle
With switch in OFF position, plug charger into 230/240 volt electrical outlet.
Firmly press charger end into cleaner receptacle located on the side of the handle. Press firmly on cleaner to ensure that end of cord is fully connected. Your cleaner will begin charging. It is designed to be stored on charge and ready for use at all times (Fig.4/1).
Charge batteries for 16 hours before initial use. If performance drops to an unacceptable level during cleaning, refer to the pr
oblem chart in T

OTE: It is normal for the charger to feel warm when the battery is charging. Never charge batteries in temperatures above 37.8ºC or below 0ºC.
NOTE: Charging light illuminates when cleaner is charging.
NOTE: The cleaner can be on a constant charge so it is always ready for use.
Make sure it is in OFF position before charging. However, if the cleaner will not be used for several weeks at a time, unplugging it is recommended.
5. How to Operate
On/Off Switch
The switch has 2 positions.
Push on/off switch down to ON position and lower handle to operating position to turn the unit on. For convenience, the unit will stop running when the handle is placed in the upright position (Fig.5/1).
When cleaning is finished, it is recommended that the switch be turned to the OFF position for storage.

ow to Empty
Turn switch to OFF position.
Press button and slide dirt container latch towards the outside of cleaner. Rotate dirt container lid toward back of cleaner (Fig.6/1).
While holding dirt container, grasp filter frame and lift out filter. Empty dirt container. Pull middle section of filter out of filter frame. To remove debris from filter, tap it on a hard surface or brush it with a soft brush (Fig.6/2).
Push middle section of filter back into filter frame. Replace filter into dirt container.
Replace dirt container to cleaner by sitting into dirt container cavity with the black flap on the dirt inlet facing the front of the unit. Then pivot the dirt cup forward until a snap is felt (Fig.6/3).

Turn switch to OFF position.
To maintain cleaning effectiveness, periodically remove lint, strings, etc. from the brush bar located on the underneath side of the nozzle (Fig.6/4).
Replacing the Brush Bar
Replace the brush roll when the brushes do not touch the edge of a card as it is moved across the opening on the bottom of the nozzle (Fig.6/5).
To replace the brush bar, first remove the brush bar locking plate (Fig.6/6).
Unhook the brush bar from the belt and remove from its mounting (Fig.6/7).

Dispose of old brush bar. Slide new brush bar through the belt loop and insert the ends into the mountings. Replace locking plate.
7. Storage
The cleaner may be conveniently hung from the hook located on the top of the upper handle (Fig.7/1).
Turn switch to OFF position before hanging.
8. Battery Recycling
Your cleaner contains nickel cadmium batteries.
When these batteries no longer recharge, they must be removed from the cleaner and disposed of properly.

Remove battery pack from unit.
To disconnect battery pack from terminal, push down on tab and pull connector straight out.
To install a new battery pack, push connector straight in until you hear a click. Return battery pack and terminal into unit.
Replace battery door by first inserting tab on bottom of door and positioning hole on door with hole on unit. Replace screw and tighten with screwdriver (Fig.8/3).

9. Troubleshooting
WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury, unplug the vacuum cleaner before performing maintenance or troubleshooting checks.
PROBLEM: Vacuum cleaner won't run.
Cause:
Charger not firmly plugged in.
Solution: Plug charger in firmly.
Cause: Battery not charged.
Solution: Recharge battery making sure cleaner is fully
connected to the end of the cord.
Cause: No voltage in wall plug.
Solution: Check fuse or circuit breaker.
Cause:
Switch not turned on / cleaner in upright position.
Solution:
Ensure cleaner is switched on and reclined to run.
Cause: Brushbar clogged.
Solution: Clean brushbar. Refer to page 5.
PROBLEM: Cleaner won’t pick up.
Cause:
Dirt container full.
Solution: Empty dirt container. Refer to page 5.
PROBLEM: Charging light not lit when plugged in.
Cause:
Cleaner not firmly plugged in.
Solution: Plug charger in firmly.
