Whenusing the carpet washer, basic safetyprecautionsshould
always beobserved, including the following:
1. Do not leave the carpet washer unattended when
plugged in. Unplug it from socket when not in use.
2. To prevent electric shock do not use outdoors.
3. Not to be used as a toy. Children should be supervised to
ensure that they donotplay with theappliance.
4. Thisappliance isnotintended foruse by persons

capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge,
unless they have been given supervision or instruction
concerning the useof the appliance by a person
responsible for their safety.
5. Use only as described in this manual.
6. Do not use the carpet washer if it has been
dropped, damaged, left outdoors or dropped into
water. Do not use the carpet washer with a
damaged cord or plug. If the supply cord is damaged, it

ust be replaced by the manufacturer or a

ecommended Service Agent to avoid hazard and
invalidating the guarantee.
7. Do not pull or carry by cord/hose. Do not use the
cord/hose as a handle, close a door on the cord/hose
or pull cord/hose around sharp edges or corners. Do
not run the carpet washer over the cord/hose. Keep
the cord away from heated surfaces.
8. Do not unplug by pulling on the cord.
9. Do not handle the plug or carpet washer with wet
hands.

openings or operate with

ed, keep them free of anything that
may reduce airflow.
11. Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers and all parts of the
body away from openings and moving parts.
12. Do not use the carpet washer on any glowing,
burning or smoking particles.
13. Do not use without the solution tank and dirty water
tank in place.
14. Turn off all controls before unplugging.
15. Do not use to pick up flammable or combustible
liquids such as petrol, or use in areas wh
ere they may
be present.
16. Keep the unit
on the floor.
17. Do not attempt to remove blockages with sharp
objects as they may cause damage.
18. Store indoors put away after use to prevent tripping
accidents.
19. Using improper voltage may result in damage to the
motor and possible injury to the user. The correct
voltage is listed on the rating label.
20. A hazard may occur if the carpet washer runs over
the power supply cord.

Use appliance in normal cleaning position.
22. Use extra care when cleaning on stairs.
23. Do not carry appliance while motor is running.
WARNING: Always switch off and unplug your
machine from the electrical outlet before filling and
emptying the clean water tank, emptying the dirty water tank,
before assembling, opening, before connecting/
disconnecting the attachments, or carryin
g out maintenance
or troubleshooting checks and storage.
NOTE: Carpets should be dry
vacuumed thoroughly
before washing.
IMPORTANT: If the hose or tools are blocked, switch
off and unplug the carpet washer and remove the blockage(s) before re-starting your machine.
See maintenance.
IMPORTANT: Even with regular cleaning, filters have
a limited lifespan and will eventually need to be replaced during the lifetime of the cleaner. If the performance of your cleaner is compromised and/or the filters are severely discoloured, the filters may need to be replaced. As a general guide, Vax recommends filters be replaced every 3-6 months depending on the level of use to ensure optimum performance of your cleaner.

24. Use only SAA approved 10amp extension cords. Non-approved cords may overheat. Care should be taken to arrange the cord so that the cord cannot be tripped over.

Assembling your carpet washer handle

Locate locking pin and press in points shown to remove.
Insert handle and re-fit locking pin.
Locking pin will ‘click’ when in place.

Assembling your pre-treatment kit
Wrap solution tube around holder for storage.

Assembling your tool caddy and hose
Fit hose connector end in first.
Wrap hose around caddy tightly anti-clockwise. Clip in the last wrap of the hose and wash tool as shown.
Ensure locking tabs are horizontal.
Attach caddy to unit top first.
Rotate tabs 90˚ clockwise to lock caddy onto unit.
Slide pre-treatment wand holder onto handle.
Place wand into holder as shown

Operation
IMPORTANT: Do not over saturate your carpet.
Vacuum your carpets thoroughly with a dry vacuum cleaner.
Test for colourfastness - Wet a white absorbent cloth with the solution. In a small, hidden
area of your carpet, gently rub the surface with the dampened cloth. Wait ten minutes and check for colour removal or bleed with white paper towel or cloth. If your carpet has more than one colour, check all colours.
When cleaning an entire room, move furniture out of the area to be cleaned. If the furniture is too heavy t
o move, place aluminium foil or wax paper under legs. This will prevent wood
finishes from staining your carpet. Pin up furniture skirts and curtains.
Before you begin cleaning
IMPORTANT: Only use Vax carpet cleaning solution. Using other solutions may cause
excess foaming. Excessive foam will prevent the machine from working effectively. Using other solutions will invalidate the guarantee.

Operation
Fill clean water tank with solution mix.
Pour required dose of pre-treatment solution (approx. 40ml per 1L of water).
Mix solution with warm water. (max 40˚ C)
Remove clean water tank.
Unwrap power cord and plug unit in.
Operating your pre-treatment wand
NOTE: Pre-treating your carpet before washing will help to remove stubborn stains. NOTE: Do not over saturate your carpet.
NOTE: Leave pre-treatment solution to work for 10-15 minutes then wash carpets as
described on page 7 of Operation.
IMPORTANT: Before setting the machine up to wash, ensure theclean water tank is rinsed thoroughly of pre-treatment solution.
Spray evenly onto desired areas.

Remove pre-treatment wand from holder and unwrap solution tube.
Align inserts and push in. Turn clockwise to secure.
To insert wand cable into socket, align inserts and push in. Turn clockwise to secure.

Operation
Operating your carpet washer
Fill clean water tank with solution mix.
Pour required dose of cleaning solution (approx. 40ml per 1L of water).
Mix solution with warm water. (max. 40˚C)
Remove clean water tank.
Unwrap power cord and plug unit in.
Recline the machine. NOTE: When machine is reclined brushbar will rotate. Upright position brushbar will not rotate.
Press trigger to release solution
For best results apply solution on the forward stroke and release the trigger to recover solution on the backward stroke.
Tighten cap before returning tank to unit.

NOTE: Your dirty water tank is fitted with a float. When the dirty water tank is full or the floor head is notin contact with the carpetthe float will shut off the suction at the floor nozzle. You will be able to hear if this has happened as the motor noise on the unit will increase. Once the float is activated, empty the dirty water tank if full.If the dirty water tank is not full then turn off your machine at thepower switch and wait forthe float to settle before re-starting.

Pull wash tool back over spill to pick up liquid.
Picking up spills
Remove hose.
Connect to dirty water tank outlet.
Twist to secure position.
Insert tube into socket. Press ‘on’ pedal.

Operation
Using the wash tool
For best results apply solution on the forward stroke and release the trigger to recover on the backward stroke.
NOTE: Do not over saturate your upholstery.
NOTE: The clean water tank will need to be filled with solution and water before use.
Press trigger to release solution.

tank outlet.

Emptying the dirty water tank
NOTE: Rinse out tank with clean water and leave to air dry before storing your machine.
Rinse under water to remove debris (max 40ºc). Allow to dry completely before replacing or storing away your machine.
Threads caught in the brushbar can be carefully cut out.

Pull back release lever.
Lift tank.
Turn cap and remove. Rinse out tank and
dirty water.
Remove filter from machine by lifting upwards.
(We recommend 24hrs to dry completely).

Storage
Empty and rinse out clean and dirty water tanks and leave to air dry before replacing.
You can remove the handle and tool caddy for convenient storage.

Replacing the belt
Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove two (2) screws.
Remove cover. Remove damaged/
broken belt off the spindles.
Replace new belt on to spindles and secure the belt cover.
Press handle release button.
Remove locking pin and pull handle upwards.
Turn orange tab on the tool caddy anticlockwise to release caddy.
Remove hose caddy for easy storage.

Is there an accessory missing?
• Check the ‘Parts Overview’ page in this guide to make sure the part is definitely included in your unit.
Why won’t the carpet washer turn on?
• It may not be plugged into the electrical outlet
correctly: ensure that the plug is pushed in securely and switched on.
• The power button on the unit hasn’t been fully
depres
s
ed.
• If unit cuts out during use, disconnect the unit from
the wall socket, allow to cool for one hour, clean the filter and empty the dirty water tank and check hose, brushbar for blockages.
Why won’t the cleaner pick up solution/spills?
• The float in the dirty water tank may have been
activated. Empty the dirty water tank if full. If the dirty water tank is not full then switch the machine off and wait for the float to settle before re-starting your machine.
• The dirty water tank

ay be full and the auto shut
off engaged. Empty the dirty water tank.
• Ensure the dirty water tank is fitted correctly and the
tank cap is securely fitted.
• Check the hose for blockages.
• Check the brushbar for blockages.
Why won’t the solution/clean water dispense?
• Ensure the clean water tank is fitted securely.
• The solution/clean water tank may be empty.
• Ensure dirty water tank is fitted securely.
Why won’t the brushes rotate?
• The brushes will only rotate when the uni

reclined and turned on.
• Check the float chamber filter and clean if necessary.
• Belt may be broken - replace if necessary.
