1. VTPC150XPE presentation
Affordable and robust computer, VTPC150XPE is specially designed for industrial
environments (without water). VTPC150XPE is provided with a VIA Eden 800 MHz
Processor an a 15” color LCD (TFT resistive). All versions of VTPC150XPE are
touch screen for an easiest and faster seizure of information. For optimal pointing
precision, Teflon point pencil is available in option. VTPC150XPE is built with a
safety fan that will be set in motion if the processor reached a temperature to
high. This characteristic was design to prevent damaging electronics parts of
your computer if, for example, an application in problem took 100% of the
processor for a long length of time.
The anodize aluminum case of VTPC150XPE is designed for the industrial
environments with dust or dust free. The unit includes a tilting support which
allows the desktop or wall-mount installation. Several ports are also available.
You can add one or more PS2 or USB reading devices (industrial keyboard, bar
code scanner, etc).
The basic version of VTPC150XPE is equipped with a flash memory.
Contrary to the traditional hard disk, the flash memory does not contain any
moving part, which increases its lifespan. The flash disk can be protected in
order to prevent any modification (accidental or not), which could be made by the
users. This function enables you to protect your application or your operating
system. The basic operating system included in your VTPC150XPE is Windows XP
Embedded. It is installed directly on the flash disc. For the users who wish to
have a complete Windows XP Professional, a version of VTPC150XPE including
this operating system on a hard disk is available.

1.2. Fixing the VTPC150XPE
The stand provided with the VTPC150XPE can be used in a wall mount or desktop position.
Once fixed, the angle of VTPC150XPE can be easily adapted to the needs of each user with
no need to adjust the position of the screws.
How to fix VTPC150XPE :
• Determine the appropriate emplacement (plane & motionless surface).
• On the base support (D), completely unscrew screw A (wall mount) or the screw B
(desk top). Partially unscrew the screw C.
* See diagram below
• Separate the base support (D) from the VTPC150XPE .
• Fix the base support (D) on the chosen emplacement.
• Replace VTPC150XPE on its base support in the desired position (Wall mount or
desktop) and fixed the corresponding screw, A for wall mount, B for desktop.
• Tighten the screws on each side of the base support.

2. Operating system
The basic operating system of VTPC150XPE is Windows XP Embedded, which is a
reduce version of Windows XP Professional. Windows XP Embedded included in
VTPC150XPE is specifically designed to function with the VTPC150XPE and cannot be
transferred on another computer.
VTPC150XPE can support the complete version of Windows XP Professional. In
this case, the VTPC150XPE will be provided with a hard disk.
2.1. ADMINISTRATOR authentification
The VTPC150XPE is authenticated as a user without privileges. To authenticate
yourself as an administrator, you must at start, hold the "Shift" key of your keyboard until
the window of authentification appears. Then, enter the term "Administrator" in the "user
name" and "Password" field (You must respect lower and upper case).
*If you don’t want to restart your computer, close the session ("log off") while holding
inserted the button "Shift".
2.2. Network connection
VTPC150XPE offers three ways of connecting to a computer if you wish to use
remote applications ("Thin Client"):
• RDP (Remote Desktop Connection)
• Citrix
• Ericom Emulation (terminal emulation)

2.3. Software or Driver Addition
To add a driver or a software to the VTPC150XPE it is necessary to be
authenticated as administrator (see section 2.1). The file transfer can be easily done.
You can use any peripheral connected on one of the VTPC150XPE USB port (CD
reader, disc drive, USB "Flash" disc) or by using the Ethernet network.
By default, approximately 200MB of space ("Flash" disc) is available on
VTPC150XPE . On request, it is possible to add up to 1Gb of additional flash memory.
Since Windows XP Embedded does not contain all the components and drivers of
Windows XP Professional, it is possible that a software requires a missing component,
this will generate an operating error in the software. If it is the case, please address an email request to support@vartechsystems.com . A VarTech technician will be able to
help you to identify the missing component.
2.4. Starting with "Safe Mode"
In certain cases, it can be necessary to start Windows in "Safe Mode". To do so, let the
computer start normally and type “MSCONFIG” in the field "Run..." of the Start menu.
Select "Startup Diagnosis" and click on "ok". After a few seconds, you will be asked to
start again, pres "Restart". After the restarting, the system informs you that it is in
diagnosis mode (being equivalent of "Safe Mode"). To return to "normal" mode, still
use order “MSCONFIG” but select "Normal Startup" then start again. As oppose to
standard Windows, the Windows XP Embedded does not work when you hit the F8 key
to start in "Safe Mode".
3. Data Bases
Windows Xpe does not support data bases access through jet-engine. To access data
bases, you must use a DSN.
