SECTION 1 - DMM-4S(T) Quick SetupDMM-4S(T)
SECTION 1 - DMM-4S(T) Quick Setup
Quick Start Steps
To get started quickly please follow the steps below. Some features and hardware setups do not require the
same connections; if you do not see the need for a particular step simply skip it and move on to the next
step. Make sure to complete all the required steps for your application. This section will get the DMM up and
running quickly using the default settings (recommended) for ripping CDs etc.
Outline Steps To Get Started Quickly
!Make required connections to the back panel of the DMM
!Make optional connections to the DMM if using the DMM’s Local User Interface
!Power ON the DMM - Vantage recommends using a quality, certified power surge protector
!Install Vantage DMM Client software (Desktop UI) on any computer on the same network as the DMM
"If planning to use the Local User Interface menus, connect the DMM to a VGA compatible TV or
computer monitor or to a TV monitor via the composite video out. Typically, this step is not
necessary because the Vantage DMM Client interface is used instead
!Identify the DMM to Vantage DMM Client software for proper setup
!Setup the IP address and record it, along with the name of the DMM unit, for later use
!Rip CDs
"Simply insert the CD into the front of the DMM-4S Server by carefully sliding it into the slot until the
unit automatically pulls the CD in
"Ripping will begin automatically and when it is finished the CD will be ejected alerting you to insert
the next CD
"To monitor the ripping process:
-From the Vantage DMM Client click on the Tools (tab) | Ripping | Ripping Monitor
-From the Local User Interface click on Views | Ripping Monitor
-Either system displays helpful details to the ripping process as well as real time progress,
however, the Vantage DMM Client provides some additional information
!Program TPT Touchscreens using Touchscreen Designer in Design Center™
!Listen - the ripped music list is automatically updated on TPT Touchscreens Music Component user
interface, allowing the following controls:
"Listen to ripped music
"Play albums or individual song tracks
"Setup/Play, Playlists
-Select albums/songs to be played back and save as a Playlist
"Play Artists
"Play Genres
"Listen to Internet Radio
!Connect to the local Network via a standard RJ-45 Ethernet Cable to a network port
!Connect the Analog Left and Right source outputs to a Vantage Axium or to your Hi-Fi Stereo pre-amp
inputs
"NOTE: It is not necessary to connect all 4 sources
-Connection of at least one Output source is required to monitor playback
!Optional, Connect one of the sources to an Sony/Philips Digital Interface (S/PDIF) Device
"See SECTION 6 - External and Docked Devices in the DMM User Guide for instructions to assign one
of the four sources to the S/PDIF output.
!Connect the Power Supply Adaptor
"Because the Vantage DMM-4S(T) is computer based hardware containing a large internal hard-drive
and other computer components, Vantage strongly recommends connecting it to a quality Power
Conditioner/Power Surge protector. This will increase protection from unwanted surges in the power
line.
Step 2 - Optional Connections
The VGA/Composite monitor options are only needed if the Local User Interface is going to be used.
!Connect a standard or USB mouse and keyboard* - Optional if using the Local User Interface
*NOTE: A keyboard is not absolutely needed as the Local User Interface has an on screen keyboard, but a
connected keyboard will make interfacing easier and faster.
!Connect any VGA compatible monitor or connect a TV to the composite video- Either is required when
After all of the connections have been made turn the power to the DMM-4S on by pressing the button in the
lower right-hand corner of the front panel. Wait for the system to boot up.
Step 4 - Install Vantage DMM Client Software
Install the Vantage DMM Client software on the computer that will be used to setup the DMM-4S Server. This
computer should be on the same network as the DMM Server.
NOTE: This is the most common interface used by the Vantage installer for setting up theDMM-4S Server. This software may be downloaded from the Vantage Dealer site and is also
provided on the CD shipped with the DMM.
Step 5 - Identify DMM Server to Desktop Client
From the Vantage DMM Client software click on File | Connect. Click on Scan for Vantage DMMs to see all
DMM Servers on the local network. The DMM unit has a sticker on the back with the name of the DMM unit,
e.g. DMM20F3. Click on the name of the unit this session of the Vantage DMM Client will be interfacing with.
If more than one DMM unit is installed on the local network please note that it is only possible to connect to
one DMM unit at a time via the Vantage DMM Client software. However, multiple sessions of the VantageDMM Client software may be running simultaneously. To confirm which DMM the Vantage DMM Client
software is using do the following: Click on Tools | Status & Messages | System Status. Look at the Host Name
and the Host Address to see the Name and IP address of the DMM Music Server.
If the installer is using the Local User Interface, the IP Address can be found by clicking on Menu (bottomright of VGA monitor) | System | System Status | Network Adaptors. The screen will display connection
information including the IP address of the DMM.
Step 6 - Setup a Static IP Address
The DMM will automatically acquire a DHCP address on the network when powered up. The installer may
want to change the IP address to a static IP address (recommended). Follow these simple steps using
Vantage DMM Client software to setup a static IP address.
1.Click on Tools | Settings & Functions | Network Configuration
2. Click on Use Static Address
3. The same information used by the DHCP address may be used for the Static IP address
a. If special network conditions exist it may be necessary for a trained network specialist to setup a
static IP address
Rather than using a static or DHCP IP address, record the IP address and the name of the DMM unit for
reference later.
Step 7 - Rip CDs
To rip CDs simply insert the CD into the front of the DMM Server to automatically start the ripping process.
Remember the default settings for ripping etc. on the DMM are the most popular settings. Two copies are
ripped automatically to the DMM. The Local Server version is a perfect copy of the CD with no loss of digitalinformation (the no loss settings cannot be changed) and simultaneously, an encoded version is copied using
the Ripping/Encoding settings and these settings may be custom defined.
Step 8 - Program TPT Touchscreens with Touchscreen Designer™
Programming a Vantage TPT Touchscreen to work with the DMM is literally about a 5-minute process. Using
Design Center software and Touchscreen Designer, simply drop the InFusion Media Music Component on
the Touchscreen design, add the IP address of the DMM and export the design. Please see SECTION 5 - TPT
Program all TPT Touchscreens that will be interfacing with the DMM. From a TPT Touchscreen, press on the
album, song, etc., wanted and press Play. Make sure the Axium or Hi-Fi Stereo is on to listen to the music.
Volume, tone settings etc. are controlled from the Stereo system not from the DMM. Please see SECTION2 - InFusion Media, Music Component Interface (next section) for navigating the touchscreen’s Music
Component.
Powering the DMM ON and OFF
The DMM may be turned on and off by:
1.A normal Press/Release of the power button on the front face of the DMM
a. If the DMM is already ON it has been setup to perform a soft (safe) shut down with this action that
takes about thirty seconds
b. If the DMM is already OFF it has been setup, while turning on, to perform an automatic boot sequence
that takes about one minute
2. Press/Hold the power button in until the DMM powers down
a. This performs a forced Hard shutdown of the DMM
b. This action is not recommended unless the DMM has stopped responding
3. In the event of a Power outage the DMM has been programmed to return to the state it was at before
the power outage
