5. NOTES
5.1 The Valiant Moisture Meter is a sensitive
instrument and has temperature compensating
circuitry; please allow the meter to adjust to
the environmental temperature of the wood
under test to optimize the accuracy.
5.2 The test probes are very sharp. Make sure they
are used with caution and are kept away from
children to avoid injury.
5.3 To avoid injury, do not point the probes at
humans or animals.
5.4 The instrument is of high quality. Keep it
dry and clean so as to ensure its accuracy and
condition when stored and in use.
5.5 Replace the battery when the display indicates
or after the Moisture Meter has not been used
for a long period of time. The indicator “
”
will display on the LCD.
6. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q. Why is burning unseasoned wood not recom-
mended?
A. • It is more difcult to burn
• Stove glass becomes dirty
• It will increase harmful deposits in the ue,
potentially causing corrosive deposits which
can damage the ue liner.
Q. Why are there different tree type measure-
ments?
A. The electrical properties of wood types vary so
the Valiant Moisture Meter has 4 settings to
give an accurate reading. For general moisture
content and unknown tree/wood type select
the tree type 3.
Q. What is the typical moisture content of freshly
cut wood?
A. This varies according to the variety and the
time of year the wood is cut, but is typically
between 35 and 60%. Always ensure that the
wood is below 20% prior to burning.
Q. Will low battery affect the measurement result?
A. When the battery power is less than 70%-80%,
the measurement will become less accurate.
Replace the battery when the low battery
symbol shows.
