These instructions contain the specifications and
information necessary to install, operate, and maintain
the VPB-260, Battery Back-up Power Supply.
SPECIFICATIONS
The VPB-260 provides a battery source to permit
system operation in the event of an AC power failure.
Features
• 12 and 24 volt DC outputs
• Outputs fused at 3 amps
• AC input fuse protected
• Power on LED indication
• Full current limiting on battery charger
• Long life Gel Cell Batteries
• Battery test switch with light indication
Capacity
Table 1 shows the approximate times for a fully
charged supply to reach 90% voltage under different
load conditions.
NOTE: All electronic key systems will begin to
operate intermittently below a certa in input voltage.
Typically reliable operation will be maintained to
90% of full voltage.

Applications
The VPB-260 is known to be compatible with the
following systems:
Telephone Systems:
CMXCKS-308
Using the appropriate hardware, mount the VPB-260
within 6 feet of an AC receptacle.
Specifications
• Output 24 Vdc and 12 Vdc fused at 3 amps each
• Current limited, constant voltage charger
• Gel Cell no maintenance type batteries
• Typical battery life is 3-5 years
Power Requirements
• Input 105-120 Vac, 60 Hz
Environment
• Temperature0 to 50 Degrees C
• Humidity0 to 85% non-precipitating
DESIGN
The VPB-260 is a fully filtered battery back-up
power supply. The input and both outputs are fuse
protected. The charger circuit output is floating with
respect to ground. The charging circuit provides a
constant voltage and is current limited to 1.5 amps to
the two Gel Cells. There is a "power on" LED that is
illuminated when the supply is connected to the AC
power source. There is also a test button for testing
the batteries. When pressing this button, the LED
will illuminate if the batteries are fully charged.
Connections
Unplug the KSU power cord. Consult the installation
manual of the key system for the location of the input
socket for the battery backup supply. Plug the low
voltage power cord of the auxiliary power system into
the socket.
NOTE: The plug is polarized and will only fit one
way. After making sure that the plug is seated in thesocket, plug in the AC power cords. Both the AC
power cord for the VPB-260 and the power cord for
the KSU should use the same AC outlet. Figure 1
shows low voltage plug outputs.
NOTE: Time to reach a full charge after initial
installation or after a deep discha rge is
approximately 9 hours.
MAINTENANCE
In order to insure proper operation of the battery
supply, the following operation should be performed
once a month.
Unplug the key system from the AC power receptacle
to allow operation from the batteries for 15 minutes.
Plug key system power cord into AC outlet.

TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE
When trouble is reported, verify that AC power is
being supplied to the unit and there are no blown
fuses. To test the batteries for full charge, unplug the
VPB-260 and press the button marked test on the side
of the unit. The LED lights when batteries are okay.
Assistance in troubleshooting is available from the
factory. When calling, you should have a VOM and a
test set available and be calling from the job site.
