INSTALLATION TIPS - Before installing the Solar Controller Box in the attic, test and confirm proper communications between Controller Box and Remote by following setup procedures.
Setting up Solar Controller and the Remote
1. Connect AC Power Adapter to the Controller Box. Temperature and relative humidity will be displayed.
2. The Controller Box has 2 slide switches, the one on the left is for selecting the Radio Frequency (RF) channel and the one on the right is for selecting the temperature readout in Celsius (°C) or Fahrenheit (°F). Align the RF channel (choice of 1,2 and 3) of the Remote with the Controller Box. Both of them must be on the same channel in order to send and receive signals. Select the desired temperature readout unit.
(fig 1a & 1b)
3. Remove the back panel of the Remote. Insert 2 AAA batteries (included) in the battery compartment. Replace the back panel of the battery compartment.
4. Test the Remote by pressing the Status button once. This will establish the connection between the Controller Box and Remote. You will hear a “beep” every time the Status button is pressed. This verifies the Remote and Controller Box RF signals are aligned. If there is not a beep, check that the RF channel selector is set to the same channel. If there is still no beep, move both devices to an alternative channel and retry.

Installing Solar Controller
If your Solar Controller came bundled with an attic fan, install the fan first following the instructions included for that model of fan. When the installation of the fan is complete, install Solar Controller. Note that Solar Controller is designed to work with U.S. Sunlight Solar Attic ventilation products. DO NOT ATTEMPT to connect Solar Controller to other solar fans.
Solar Controller can be installed with or without the use of house electricity:
Standard Installation
When implementing the standard installation, Solar Controller will run only on power generated by the solar panel and will provide these functions:
1. Reads attic temperature and relative humidity and displays them on the Controller Box and Remote
2. Monitors fan and solar panel working conditions
3. Allows user to enable or disable Thermo Switch on the Remote
(Note: These functions will be active only when the sun is available to generate electricity from the solar panel)
Installation with use of House Electricity
Installing Solar Controller with the AC Power Adapter will provide these additional benefits:
4. Extends fan operation into the evening hours
5. Allows fan to operate when no sun is available
6. Intelligently limits the amount of house electricity to be used for adequate ventilation

Standard Installation
1. Bring the complete Solar Controller Kit, including the Remote and Controller Box, to the attic.
2. Check and make sure the Thermo Switch on the back of the Remote is set to the OFF
position
3. Install the Controller Box on a nearby rafter close to the underside of the roof with the provided mounting screws. (fig 2a & 2b) The Controller Box has vents on either side of the housing that allow the temperature and humidity sensors to work, so it is important to locate the Controller Box with at least 1 inch of space between it and the underside of the roof. (fig 3 & 4) For best results, locate the Controller Box near the fan opening as

4. Unplug the 2 wire leads (red and black) from the motor. (fig 6) If your fan came with a thermal switch, unplug the wire coming in from the solar panel to the switch. (fig 7) The Controller Box will be replacing the function of this switch. You will not need the thermal switch and it can be discarded.
shown. Mounting within 2 to 3 feet of the motor is recommended. (fig 5)

5. Take one 8’ cable (included) and plug the female leads into the motor (red to red and black to black) (fig 8) and connect the male leads to the fan connectors on the Controller Box. (fig 9) Note: It is important to connect the
Controller Box to the motor BEFORE connecting to the solar panel.
