Prepare for installation

Note: Your product number is 2216. It is very important that you have your serial number

written down before you install the 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter. You can find your serial

number on the label of the 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter and on the side of the package.
If you ever need to contact our Technical Support department, you will need this number to
receive assistance.

Note: Be sure to find out what letter your CD-ROM drive uses before you begin installing

your new product. You will need to know this to properly install your software.

Note: During the Installation procedure, you may be prompted for your Windows

Operating System CD-ROM. Make sure you have that available in case you need it.

Step 1. Install your software and drivers*

Turn on your computer. Insert the Installation CD into your CD-ROM drive.

Note: If the Choose Setup Language window appears, select your preferred language and

click OK. If your CD-ROM does not automatically launch, click Windows Start, Run, type
D:\setup (or the appropriate letter of your CD-ROM drive), and click OK.

Read the License Agreement and click Yes to accept the terms. If you do not accept the terms of
the agreement, click No and the software installation will be terminated.

Note: You will need to install this Installation CD-ROM on all the PCs you plan to wirelessly

network together.

Click Software and then click Install Wireless Card Utility and Drivers. Follow the on-screen
instructions. When you are prompted to reboot your computer, select No, I will restart my
computer later and click Finish. Close the Installation CD Graphic User Interface (GUI). When your
desktop returns, shut down your computer.

*A “Digital Signature Not Found” screen may appear during your driver installation. Click Yes. Windows will verify that your
network device is properly installed.

Step 2. Install the 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter*

Make sure your computer is turned off. Remove the computer’s cover. With the computer turned
off, locate an available PCI slot and remove the slot cover screw or clip. Remove the slot cover and
insert the PCI Adapter. PCI slots are typically white plastic lined with metal and are 3.5 inches
long. Secure the PCI Adapter with the previously removed screw or clip. Replace the computer’s
cover and turn on your computer.

Note: It can be tricky getting the PCI Adapter into the PCI slot. You may need to remove the

antenna in order to place the PCI Adapter into the PCI slot. Use firm pressure to seat the
PCI Adapter properly. If you experience any problems inserting the PCI Adapter, try

inserting it in a different PCI slot.

Note: If you are prompted at any time for your Windows Operating System CD-ROM,

remove the U.S. Robotics Installation CD-ROM and insert your Windows CD-ROM into the
CD-ROM drive. When all of the files are copied, remove the Windows CD-ROM, and reinsert

the U.S. Robotics Installation CD-ROM.

Step 3. Configure the basic connection settings

Congratulations!

Wireless PCI Adapter is set to Auto Detect mode by default, which allows it to scan for and
connect to an existing wireless network or other wireless networking products in the area.

You should now see a small icon for the Configuration Utility in
the system tray by your clock. The Configuration Utility is used
to change or verify the configuration information that relates to
your 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter. The Configuration Utility
icon will be colored to indicate the status of your wireless
network: red for disconnected, yellow for connected with poor
quality, and green for connected with good quality.

You have finished installing your hardware and your software! The 22 Mbps

You must now configure each computer that has a 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter in order to share
Internet connectivity, files, and a printer. Double-click the utility icon to launch the Configuration
Utility. Refer to the “22 Mbps Wireless Configuration Utilities” section in the User Guide on the
Installation CD-ROM for detailed configuration information.

802.11b ad hoc mode is used for peer-to-peer network configurations. Infrastructure mode is
used to add a Wireless Access Point to the wireless network configuration for extended range and
increased number of computers that can join the network. Auto Detect mode allows the
Configuration Utility to search for a wireless network and automatically connect to it. Each
wireless product in the wireless network must have the same mode selected within the
Configuration Utility. The 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapters are set to Auto Detect by default.

Register your product

• At the Installation CD-ROM interface, click the Support link. Follow the on-screen instruc-

tions to register your modem and to view the warranty information. If the Installation CD­ROM interface does not run automatically, click Windows Start and then click Run. In the
“Run” dialog box, type D:\setup.exe. If your CD-ROM drive uses a different letter, type that
letter in place of “D.”

Advanced Options

Enabling File and Print Sharing

To enable file and print sharing over the wireless network, perform the following steps on the
computers with a 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter installed.

Windows 98 and Me Users: Click Windows Start, Settings, and then Control Panel. Double-click
Network and then click the File and Print Sharing button. Select both boxes in the File and Print
Sharing window and then click OK. File and print sharing is now enabled.

Note: If your computer is connected directly to the Internet, there is a security risk if you

are not using a firewall program or some form of hardware firewall.

Windows 2000 and XP Users: File and print sharing are automatically enabled in Windows 2000
and Windows XP in Adminstrator mode.

Enabling Internet Sharing

To enable Internet sharing over the wireless network, perform the following steps on each
machine that has a 22 Mbps Wireless PC Card or PCI Adapter installed.

Windows 98 Users: Click Windows Start, Settings, and then Control Panel. Double-click Add/
Remove Programs and then click the Windows Setup tab. Select Internet Tools and then click
Details. Select Internet Connection Sharing and click OK. Click Apply, and the Internet

Connection Sharing Wizard will launch. Click Next, select the 22 Mbps Wireless PC Card or PCI
Adapter to connect to the Internet, and click Next. Click Next to create a Client Configuration Disk,
insert a blank disk into the 3.5-inch disk drive, and click OK. This disk will be used to configure
Internet sharing in Windows 98. Click Finish to complete the configuration of Internet sharing.
You will then need to restart your computer.

Windows 2000 and XP Users: There must be two network adapters or one network adapter and
one modem installed in order to use Internet sharing. Click Windows Start, Settings, and then
Network and Dial-up Connections. Right-click the LAN connection used to connect to the Internet
and click Properties. Click the Sharing tab. Click the box in this window to enable Internet sharing
and click Apply. Right-click the LAN connection in the list and click Properties. Select Internet
Protocol and click Properties. Click the DNS tab, write down the DNS address that is listed, and
return to the Networking and Dial-up Connections window. Right-click the wireless adapter in the
list and click Properties. Select Internet Protocol and click Properties. Click the DNS tab and
enter the same DNS address as the one listed under the LAN connection.

Windows Me Users: Click Windows Start, Settings, and then Control Panel. Double-click Add/
Remove Programs and then click the Windows Setup tab. Select Communications and then click
Details. Select Internet Connection Sharing and click OK. Click Apply and the Home Networking

Wizard will launch. Click Next and then select Yes this computer uses the following. Select the
direct connection to the Internet from the drop-down menu and click Next. When prompted,
create a Home Networking Setup disk to be used for the configuration of Internet sharing in
Windows 98, and Me. After you have created the disk, click Next. Click Finish to complete the
configuration of Home Networking. You will then need to restart your computer.

Troubleshooting

My computer does not recognise the 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter.

Possible Solution:

•The 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter may not be fully inserted into the PCI slot. You can also try
installing the 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter into a different PCI slot.

•Your PCI slot may not be configured correctly. To configure your PCI slot, contact your computer
manufacturer.

I am unable to communicate with an Access Point or Wireless Router.

Possible Solution:

Be sure that each 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter that you want to connect to the wireless network
is set to Infrastructure mode within the Configuration Utility. If your 22 Mbps Wireless PCI
Adapters are not set to Infrastructure mode, they will not be able to communicate with an Access
Point or Wireless Adapter.

Possible Solution:

Ensure that the Access Point Configuration Utility is installed for your 22 Mbps Wireless Access
Point and that the Configuration Utility is installed and functioning for your 22 Mbps Wireless PCI
Adapters.

Possible Solution:

Ensure that you are contacting the correct 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point by verifying the MAC
address.

Possible Solution:

Ensure that the correct password and encryption option are being used. If you changed the
settings in the configuration of the 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point, you must also change the
settings of every 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter attached to this network. The settings of the 22
Mbps Wireless PCI Adapters must match the new settings of the 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point. If
you are still experiencing difficulties, reset all of your Wireless Access Points and wireless
network adapters to the default settings and try again.

Possible Solution:

Ensure that you can connect to the Wireless Access Point and that the BSSID shows the MAC
address of the Wireless Access Point you want to communicate with.

Possible Solution:

If you are not using a U.S. Robotics Wireless Access Point, ensure that you can connect to the
Access Point and that the preamble mode is set to Long.

I received a message that my computer shares a name with another
computer on the wireless network.

Possible Solution:

Each computer on the wireless network must have a different name. Refer to your computer’s
documentation to see how to change the name of your computer.

I am unable to establish a wireless connection with my 22 Mbps Wireless
PCI Adapter.

Possible Solution:

Verify that the 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter is properly installed. Make sure that the antenna of
the 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter is firmly connected to the antenna port of the PCI Adapter. If
you continue to experience problems, uninstall the 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter and repeat the
installation procedure.

Possible Solution:

If you are attempting a peer-to-peer connection, verify that each wireless adapter is set to 802.11
ad hoc mode. If you are using a Wireless Access Point, verify that each wireless adapter is set to
Infrastructure mode.

My 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter does not see my Wireless Access Point in
the list when I scan for it.

Possible Solution:

If you create a wireless connection with the 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter but are experiencing
poor link quality, check the positioning of the 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter. Long distances,
multiple floors, or steel or concrete walls can diminish the link quality. If possible, reposition the
22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter to reduce the effect of any of these obstacles. In addition, check
any physical connections between the Wireless Access Point and your modem, router, hub, LAN,
or switch.

I accidentally clicked Cancel during the software installation procedure for
the 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter.

Possible Solution:

Remove and reinsert the Installation CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. Repeat the software
installation procedure.

The software installation procedure did not begin when I inserted the
Installation CD-ROM.

Possible Solution:

Some programs may keep the autolaunch feature of the Installation CD-ROM from beginning.
Close any open applications and reinsert the Installation CD-ROM. If the Installation CD-ROM
interface does not run automatically, click Windows Start and then click Run. In the “Run” dialog
box, type D:\setup.exe. If your CD-ROM drive uses a different letter, type that letter in place of
“D.”

I received a message that my 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point or my
computer shares an IP address with another computer on the wireless
network.

Possible Solution:

Each computer and 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point on the wireless network must have a different
IP address. Refer to your computer’s documentation to see how to change the IP address on your
computer.

The 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter cannot communicate with other
computers linked via Ethernet in the Infrastructure configuration.

Possible Solution:

•Ensure that each computer in the wireless network is powered on.

•Ensure that each 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter is configured on the same operating radio
channel. If the IDs are different, change each 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter within the LAN to the
new radio channel.

•Ensure TCP/IP is installed. Ensure you are a part of the same domain or workgroup. Ensure that
you are automatically obtaining the IP address or that you have a correct IP address and subnet
mask. Reset the Wireless Access Point and restart the computer that has a connectivity issue.

•Ensure that you have some files available for sharing.

Detachable Antenna Information

FCC Part 15, Subpart C, Section 15.203 Antenna requirement
USR 2216 users: An intentional radiator shall be designed to ensure that no antenna other than that furnished by the responsible
party shall be used with the device. The use of a permanently attached antenna or of an antenna that uses a unique coupling to
the intentional radiator shall be considered sufficient to comply with the provisions of this section. The manufacturer may design
the unit so that a broken antenna can be replaced by the user, but the use of a standard antenna jack or electrical connector is
prohibited.

FCC Radiation Exposure Statement

This equipment complies with FCC radiation exposure limits set forth for an uncontrolled environment. This equipment should be
installed and operated with minimum distance 20 cm between the radiator and your body.

UL Listing/CUL Listing

This Information Technology Equipment is UL Listed and C-UL Listed and is for use with UL Listed personal computers that have
Installation Instructions detailing user installation of card cage accessories.

According to the CEPT ERC/DEC/(01)07 decision, frequencies in the band of 2.400-2,483,5 MHz may be used for collective use for
civil applications by local networks for private purpose with short range devices for the data transmission via
spread-spectrum technique (R-LAN), having the characteristics according to the CEPT ERC/REC 70-03 (Annex 3) recommandation.

For France: Only channels 10 up to 13 can be used. Channels 1 up to 9 use is strictly forbidden. Please refer to the 22 Mbps
Wireless Configuration Utilities section of the user guide to select the appropriate channel.

HARDWARE: U.S. Robotics warrants to the end user ("Customer") that this hardware product will be free from defects in
workmanship and materials, under normal use and service, for the following length of time from the date of purchase from U.S.
Robotics or its authorised reseller:

U.S. Robotics's sole obligation under this express warranty shall be, at U.S. Robotics' option and expense, to repair the defective
product or part, deliver to Customer an equivalent product or part to replace the defective item, or if neither of the two foregoing
options is reasonably available, U.S. Robotics may, in its sole discretion, refund to Customer the purchase price paid
for the defective product. All products that are replaced will become the property of U.S. Robotics. Replacement products may be
new or reconditioned. U.S. Robotics warrants any replaced or repaired product or part for ninety (90) days from shipment, or the
remainder of the initial warranty period, whichever is longer.
SOFTWARE: U.S. Robotics warrants to Customer that each software program licensed from it will perform in substantial
conformance to its program specifications, for a period of ninety (90) days from the date of purchase from U.S. Robotics or its
authorized reseller. U.S. Robotics warrants the media containing software against failure during the warranty period. No updates
are provided. U.S. Robotics's sole obligation under this express warranty shall be, at U.S. Robotics's option and expense, to
refund the purchase price paid by Customer for any defective software product, or to replace any defective media with software
which substantially conforms to applicable U.S. Robotics published specifications. Customer assumes responsibility for the
selection of the appropriate applications program and associated reference materials. U.S. Robotics makes no warranty or

Préparation à l'installation

Remarque : votre numéro de produit est 2216. Nous vous recommandons fortement de

noter votre numéro de série avant d'installer l'adaptateur 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter.

Vous trouverez le numéro de série sur l'étiquette de l'adaptateur 22 Mbps Wireless PC
Adapter et sur le côté de la boîte. Si vous avez besoin de contacter notre service d'assistance

Remarque : assurez-vous de connaître la lettre correspondant à votre lecteur CD-ROM

Etape 1. Installation du logiciel et des pilotes*

Allumez votre ordinateur. Insérez le CD d'installation dans votre lecteur CD-ROM.

Remarque : si la fenêtre du choix de la langue (Choose Setup Language) apparaît,

sélectionnez une langue et cliquez sur OK. Si votre CD-ROM ne se lance pas

automatiquement, cliquez sur Démarrer, Exécuter, tapez D:\setup (ou la lettre
correspondante de votre lecteur CD-ROM) et cliquez sur OK.

Lisez l'accord de licence et cliquez sur Yes (Oui) pour en accepter les termes. Si vous n'acceptez
pas les termes de l'accord, cliquez sur No (Non) et l'installation du logiciel prendra fin.

Remarque : vous devrez installer le CD-ROM d'installation sur tous les ordinateurs que

vous avez prévu de connecter au réseau sans fil.

Cliquez sur Software (Logiciel) puis sur Install Wireless Card Utility and Drivers (Installer
l'utilitaire et les pilotes de la carte sans fil). Suivez les instructions à l'écran. Lorsque le système
vous demande de redémarrer votre ordinateur, sélectionnez No, I will restart my computer later
(Non, je redémarrerai plus tard) et cliquez sur Finish (Terminer). Fermez l'interface graphique
utilisateur (GUI) du CD d'installation. De retour sur le bureau, éteignez votre ordinateur.

*Il est possible qu'un écran indiquant que la signature numérique est introuvable apparaisse lors de l'installation du pilote. Dans
ce cas, cliquez sur Oui. Windows vérifiera que votre périphérique réseau est correctement installé.

Etape 2. Installation de l'adaptateur 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter*

Assurez-vous que votre ordinateur est éteint. Retirez le boîtier de l'ordinateur. L'ordinateur
éteint, localisez une fente PCI disponible et retirez la vis ou le clip du couvercle de la fente. Retirez
le couvercle de la fente et insérez l'adaptateur PCI Adapter. Les fentes PCI sont en général en
plastique blanc entourées de métal et mesurent environ 9 cm de long. Fixez l'adaptateur PCI
Adapter avec la vis ou le clip précédemment enlevé. Replacez le boîtier de l'ordinateur et mettez
votre ordinateur sous tension.

Remarque : il n'est pas toujours facile d'insérer l'adaptateur PCI Adapter dans la fente

PCI. Vous devrez peut-être enlever l'antenne afin de placer l'adaptateur PCI Adapter dans

la fente PCI. Appuyez fermement afin que l'adaptateur PCI Adapter soit bien en place. Si
vous rencontrez des problèmes lors de l'insertion de l'adaptateur PCI Adapter, essayez de
l'insérer dans une autre fente PCI.

Remarque : si le programme vous demande votre CD-ROM de système d'exploitation

Windows, retirez le CD-ROM d'installation U.S. Robotics et insérez votre CD-ROM

Windows dans le lecteur. Une fois que tous les fichiers sont copiés, retirez le CD-ROM
Windows et réinsérez le CD-ROM d'installation U.S. Robotics.

Etape 3. Configuration des paramètres de connexion élémentaires
Félicitations !

L'adaptateur 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter est réglé sur le mode Auto-Detect (Détection
automatique) par défaut ; ce mode lui permet de rechercher un réseau sans fil existant ou
d'autres produits réseau sans fil proches et de s'y connecter.

La petite icône de l'utilitaire de configuration apparaît
maintenant dans la barre des tâches, près de l'horloge.
L'utilitaire de configuration sert à modifier ou à vérifier les
informations relatives à la configuration de votre adaptateur 22
Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter. La couleur de l'icône indique l'état
de votre réseau sans fil : rouge pour déconnecté, jaune pour
une connexion médiocre et vert pour une connexion de qualité.

Vous avez terminé l'installation de votre matériel et de vos logiciels !

Vous devez maintenant configurer tous les ordinateurs disposant d'un adaptateur 22 Mbps
Wireless PCI Adapter pour pouvoir partager la connexion Internet, des fichiers ou une
imprimante. Double-cliquez sur l'icône utilitaire pour lancer l'utilitaire de configuration.
Reportez-vous à la section « Utilitaires de configuration 22 Mbps Wireless » du guide de
l'utilisateur sur le CD-ROM d'installation pour des informations détaillées sur la configuration.

Le mode 802.11b ad hoc est utilisé dans le cadre des configurations de réseau d'égal à égal. Le
mode Infrastructure permet d'ajouter un point d'accès sans fil Wireless Access Point à la
configuration réseau sans fil pour augmenter la portée et le nombre d'ordinateurs pouvant être
reliés au réseau. Le mode Auto Detect (Détection automatique) permet à l'utilitaire de
configuration de rechercher un réseau sans fil et de s'y connecter automatiquement. Le même
mode doit être sélectionné dans l'utilitaire de configuration pour tous les produits sans fil
connectés au réseau sans fil. Le réglage par défaut des adaptateurs 22 Mbps Wireless PCI
Adapters est Auto Detect.

Enregistrer votre produit

• A l'interface du CD-ROM d'installation, cliquez sur le lien Support. Suivez les instructions

à l'écran pour enregistrer votre modem et voir les informations de garantie. Si l'interface du
CD-ROM d'installation ne s'affiche pas automatiquement, cliquez sur Démarrer, puis sur

Options avancées

Partage de fichiers et d'imprimantes

Pour activer la fonction de partage de fichiers et d'imprimantes sur le réseau sans fil une fois que
votre adaptateur 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter est installé, procédez comme suit :

Utilisateurs de Windows 98 et Me : cliquez sur Démarrer, Paramètres puis sur Panneau de
configuration. Double-cliquez sur Réseau et sur le bouton Partage de fichiers et d'imprimantes.

Cochez les deux cases de cette fenêtre puis cliquez sur OK. Le partage de fichiers et
d'imprimantes est désormais activé.

Remarque : le fait que votre ordinateur soit directement connecté à Internet représente

un risque si vous ne disposez pas de pare-feu, quel qu'il soit.

Utilisateurs de Windows 2000 et XP : la fonction de partage de fichiers et d'imprimantes s'active
automatiquement sous Windows 2000 et Windows XP en mode Administrateur.

Partage de la connexion Internet

Pour activer la fonction de partage Internet sur le réseau sans fil, procédez comme suit sur les
ordinateurs disposant d'une carte 22 Mbps Wireless PC Card ou d'un adaptateur PCI Adapter :

Utilisateurs de Windows 98 : cliquez sur Démarrer, Paramètres, puis sur Panneau de
configuration. Double-cliquez sur Ajout/Suppression de programmes et cliquez sur l'onglet
Installation de Windows. Sélectionnez Outils Internet puis cliquez sur Détails. Sélectionnez
Partage de Connexion Internet et cliquez sur OK. Cliquez sur Appliquer pour lancer l'Assistant de

Partage de Connexion Internet. Cliquez sur Suivant, sélectionnez la carte 22 Mbps Wireless PC
Card ou l'adaptateur PCI Adapter que vous désirez connecter à Internet et cliquez sur Suivant.
Cliquez sur Suivant pour créer une disquette de configuration client, insérez une disquette vierge
dans le lecteur de disquette 3,5 pouces et cliquez sur OK. Cette disquette servira à configurer le
partage Internet sous Windows 98. Pour terminer la configuration du partage Internet, cliquez sur

Te rm i ne r . Il vous faudra redémarrer votre ordinateur.

Utilisateurs de Windows 2000 et XP : pour profiter d'un partage de connexion Internet, vous

devez disposer de deux adaptateurs réseau ou d'un adaptateur réseau et d'un modem. Cliquez
sur Démarrer, Paramètres et sur Connexions réseau et accès à distance. Cliquez avec le bouton
droit de la souris sur la connexion LAN utilisée pour se connecter à Internet et cliquez sur
Propriétés. Cliquez sur l'onglet Partage. Cliquez sur la case qui apparaît à l'écran pour activer le
partage de la connexion Internet et cliquez sur Appliquer. Cliquez avec le bouton droit de la
souris sur la connexion LAN qui apparaît dans la liste et cliquez sur Propriétés. Sélectionnez
Protocole Internet et cliquez sur Propriétés. Cliquez sur l'onglet DNS, notez l'adresse DNS listée
et retournez à la fenêtre Connexions réseau et accès à distance. Cliquez avec le bouton droit de la
souris sur l'adaptateur sans fil qui apparaît dans la liste et cliquez sur Propriétés. Sélectionnez
Protocole Internet et cliquez sur Propriétés. Cliquez sur l'onglet DNS et saisissez la même
adresse DNS que celle listée sous connexion LAN.

Utilisateurs de Windows Me : cliquez sur Démarrer, Paramètres, puis sur Panneau de
configuration. Double-cliquez sur Ajout/Suppression de programmes et cliquez sur l'onglet
Installation de Windows. Sélectionnez Communications puis cliquez sur Détails. Sélectionnez
Partage de Connexion Internet et cliquez sur OK. Cliquez sur Appliquer pour lancer l'Assistant

Réseau domestique. Cliquez sur Suivant puis sélectionnez Oui, cet ordinateur utilise.
Sélectionnez la connexion directe à Internet à partir du menu déroulant et cliquez sur Suivant.
L'assistant vous demandera de créer une disquette de configuration du réseau domestique. Elle
servira à configurer le partage de connexion Internet sous Windows 98 et Me. Lorsque la
disquette est prête, cliquez sur Suivant. A la fin de la configuration Réseau domestique, cliquez
sur Te rm i ne r . Il vous faudra redémarrer votre ordinateur.

Dépannage

Mon ordinateur ne reconnaît pas l'adaptateur 22 Mbps Wireless PCI
Adapter.

Solution possible :

•Il se peut que l'adaptateur 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter ne soit pas correctement inséré dans
la fente PCI. Vous pouvez également essayer d'installer l'adaptateur 22 Mbps Wireless PCI
Adapter dans une autre fente PCI.

•La fente PCI n'est peut-être pas correctement configurée. Pour la configurer, contactez le
fabricant de votre ordinateur.

Je n'arrive pas à communiquer avec un point d'accès ou un routeur sans fil.

Solution possible :

Vérifiez que le mode Infrastructure est sélectionné dans l'utilitaire de configuration pour chaque
adaptateur 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter que vous voulez connecter au réseau sans fil. Si vos
adaptateurs 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapters ne sont pas réglés sur le mode Infrastructure, ils ne
pourront pas communiquer avec un point d'accès ou un adaptateur sans fil.

Solution possible :

Assurez-vous que l'utilitaire de configuration du point d'accès est installé pour votre point
d'accès 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point et qu'il fonctionne avec vos adaptateurs 22 Mbps
Wireless PCI Adapters.

Solution possible :

Assurez-vous que vous contactez le bon point d'accès 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point en vérifiant
l'adresse MAC.

Solution possible :

Vérifiez que vous utilisez le bon mot de passe et la bonne option de cryptage. Si vous modifiez les
paramètres de configuration du point d'accès 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point, vous devez
également modifier les paramètres de chaque adaptateur 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter relié au
réseau. Les paramètres des adaptateurs 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapters doivent correspondre
aux nouveaux paramètres du point d'accès 22 Mbps Wireless Access Point. Si vous rencontrez
toujours des problèmes, restaurez les paramètres par défaut de tous vos points d'accès Wireless
Access Point et adaptateurs réseau sans fil, puis réessayez.

Solution possible :

Vérifiez que vous pouvez vous connecter au point d'accès Wireless Access Point et que
l'identifiant de BSS indique l'adresse MAC du point d'accès Wireless Access Point avec lequel
vous voulez communiquer.

Solution possible :

Si vous n'utilisez pas de point d'accès sans fil Wireless Access Point U.S. Robotics, assurez-vous
que vous pouvez vous connecter au point d'accès et que le mode préambule est configuré sur
Long.

J'ai reçu un message indiquant que mon ordinateur partageait le nom d'un
autre ordinateur du réseau sans fil.

Solution possible :

Tous les ordinateurs du réseau sans fil doivent avoir un nom différent. Reportez-vous à la
documentation de votre ordinateur pour savoir comment modifier le nom de votre ordinateur.

Je ne parviens pas à établir une connexion sans fil avec mon adaptateur 22
Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter.

Solution possible :

Vérifiez que l'adaptateur 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter est correctement installé. Assurez-vous
que l'antenne de l'adaptateur 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter est bien connectée au port antenne
de l'adaptateur PCI Adapter. Si vous continuez à rencontrer des problèmes, désinstallez
l'adaptateur 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter et recommencez la procédure d'installation.

Solution possible :

Si vous tentez une connexion d'égal à égal, vérifiez que chaque adaptateur sans fil est bien réglé
sur le mode 802.11 ad hoc. Si vous utilisez un point d'accès Wireless Access Point, vérifiez que
chaque adaptateur sans fil est bien réglé sur le mode Infrastructure.

Mon adaptateur 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter ne trouve pas mon point
d'accès Wireless Access Point dans la liste lorsque je le recherche.

Solution possible :

Si la connexion sans fil avec l'adaptateur 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter fonctionne mais que
la qualité de connexion n'est pas satisfaisante, vérifiez que l'adaptateur 22 Mbps Wireless PCI
Adapter est bien positionné. Ce problème est peut-être dû à des distances trop longues, à la
séparation entre plusieurs étages ou à des murs en acier ou en béton. Si possible, changez
l'adaptateur 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter de place afin que ces obstacles ne gênent plus
l'établissement de la connexion. Vérifiez également les connexions physiques entre le point
d'accès Wireless Access Point et votre modem, votre routeur, votre concentrateur, votre LAN
ou votre commutateur.

J'ai cliqué par erreur sur Cancel (Annuler) lors de la procédure d'installation
du logiciel de l'adaptateur PCI Adapter.

Solution possible :

Ejectez puis réinsérez le CD-ROM d'installation dans le lecteur CD-ROM. Recommencez la
procédure d'installation du logiciel.

La procédure d'installation du logiciel ne s'est pas lancée quand j'ai inséré
le CD-ROM d'installation.

Solution possible :

Il se peut que certains programmes entravent la procédure d'installation automatique du
CD-ROM. Fermez toutes les applications et réinsérez le CD-ROM d'installation. Si l'interface du
CD-ROM d'installation ne s'affiche pas automatiquement, cliquez sur Démarrer, puis sur
Exécuter. Dans la boîte de dialogue « Exécuter », tapez D:\setup.exe. Si la lettre correspondant à
votre CD-ROM n'est pas “D”, tapez la lettre appropriée.

J'ai reçu un message indiquant que mon point d'accès 22 Mbps Wireless
Access Point ou mon ordinateur partageait une adresse IP avec un autre
ordinateur du réseau sans fil.

Solution possible :

Tous les ordinateurs et points d'accès 22 Mbps Wireless Access Points du réseau sans fil doivent
avoir une adresse IP différente. Reportez-vous à la documentation de votre ordinateur pour
savoir comment changer l'adresse IP de votre ordinateur.

L'adaptateur 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter ne peut pas communiquer avec
d'autres ordinateurs via Ethernet en mode Infrastructure.

Solution possible :

•Assurez-vous que tous les ordinateurs reliés au réseau sans fil sont allumés.

•Assurez-vous que tous les adaptateurs 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapters sont configurés sur le
même canal radio. Si les identifiants sont différents, configurez tous les adaptateurs 22 Mbps
Wireless PCI Adapters du LAN sur le nouveau canal radio.

•Vérifiez que TCP/IP est installé. Assurez-vous que vous faites partie du même domaine ou du
même groupe de travail. Vérifiez que vous obtenez automatiquement l'adresse IP ou que
l'adresse IP et le masque de sous-réseau sont corrects. Réinitialisez le point d'accès Wireless
Access Point et redémarrez l'ordinateur sur lequel un problème de connectivité s'est produit.

•Assurez-vous de disposer de fichiers à partager.

Vorbereitung der Installation

Hinweis: Ihre Produktnummer lautet 2216. Es ist sehr wichtig, dass Sie sich Ihre

Seriennummer notieren, bevor Sie den 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter installieren.

Sie finden Ihre Seriennummer auf dem Etikett des 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapters und
auf der Packungsseite. Sie benötigen diese Nummer, wenn Sie sich an unseren technischen
Support wenden.

Hinweis: Überprüfen Sie, welcher Buchstabe für Ihr CD-ROM-Laufwerk verwendet wird,

bevor Sie mit der Installation Ihres neuen Produktes beginnen. Diese Information ist zur

Installation der Software erforderlich.

1. Schritt: Installation Ihrer Software und Treiber*

Lesen Sie den Lizenzvertrag, und klicken Sie auf Yes (Ja), um die Bedingungen anzunehmen.
Falls Sie die Vertragsbedingungen nicht annehmen wollen, klicken Sie auf No (Nein), um die
Installation der Software abzubrechen.

Hinweis: Sie müssen diese Installations-CD-ROM auf allen PCs ausführen, die in Ihrem

Wireless-Netzwerk miteinander verbunden sein sollen.

Klicken Sie auf Software und anschließend auf Install Wireless Card Utility and Drivers (Wireless
Card-Dienstprogramm und -Treiber installieren). Befolgen Sie die Anweisungen auf dem
Bildschirm. Wählen Sie nach der entsprechenden Aufforderung No, I will restart my computer
later (Nein, ich möchte meinen Computer später neu starten) und klicken Sie auf Finish (Fertig
stellen). Schließen Sie die grafische Benutzeroberfläche der Installations-CD. Schalten Sie Ihren
Computer ab, sobald Sie wieder auf dem Desktop sind.

Schraube oder Klammer, mit der die Abdeckung des Steckplatzes befestigt ist. Entfernen Sie die
Abdeckung und stecken Sie den PCI Adapter ein. PCI-Steckplätze sind normalerweise knapp 9 cm
lange Steckerbuchsen aus weißem Kunststoff, die innen mit Metall beschichtet sind. Befestigen
Sie den PCI Adapter mit der zuvor entfernten Schraube bzw. Klammer. Setzen Sie das
Computergehäuse wieder auf und schalten Sie Ihren Computer ein.

Hinweis: Es kann schwierig sein, den PCI Adapter in den PCI-Steckplatz einzusetzen

Möglicherweise müssen Sie die Antenne entfernen, um den PCI Adapter in den

PCI-Steckplatz einführen zu können. Drücken Sie den PCI Adapter fest hinein, damit er
richtig sitzt. Wenn Sie beim Einsetzen des PCI Adapters Probleme haben, versuchen Sie ihn in
einen anderen PCI-Steckplatz einzusetzen.

Hinweis: Falls Sie zu irgendeinem Zeitpunkt aufgefordert werden, Ihre Windows

Betriebssystem-CD-ROM einzulegen, nehmen Sie die U.S. Robotics Installations-CD-ROM

heraus und legen Sie stattdessen die Windows CD-ROM in Ihr CD-ROM-Laufwerk.
Entfernen Sie die Windows CD-ROM, wenn alle Dateien k3opiert sind, und legen Sie erneut die
U.S. Robotics Installations-CD-ROM ein.

Der 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter ist standardmäßig auf den „Auto Detect mode“ (Automatische
Erkennung) eingestellt, mit dem ein bestehendes Wireless-Netzwerk oder andere Wireless­Netzwerk-Produkte in einem Gebiet gesucht werden können, um Verbindung zu ihnen
aufzunehmen.

Jetzt müssten Sie ein kleines Symbol für das Konfigurations­dienstprogramm (Configuration Utility) neben der Uhr in
Ihrer Task-Leiste sehen. Mit dem Konfigurationsdienstpro­gramm werden die Konfigurationsinformationen für Ihren
22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter geändert oder geprüft. Das
Konfigurationsdienstprogramm-Symbol zeigt durch seine
Farbe den Status Ihres Wireless-Netzwerks an: Rot bedeutet
nicht angeschlossen, Gelb heißt verbunden, aber mit
schlechter Übertragungsqualität, und Grün symbolisiert eine
gute Verbindung.

Sie müssen jetzt alle Computer konfigurieren, die über einen 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter
verfügen, um Internetverbindungen, Dateien und Drucker gemeinsam benutzen zu können.
Doppelklicken Sie auf das Symbol des Dienstprogramms, um dieses zu starten. Weitere
Informationen zur Konfiguration finden Sie unter „22 Mbps Wireless Configuration Utilities“
(22 Mbps Wireless-Konfigurationsdienstprogramme) in der Bedienungsanleitung auf der
Installations-CD-ROM.

Der Modus 802.11b AdHoc wird für Peer-to-Peer-Netzwerkkonfigurationen verwendet. Über den
Modus Infrastructure (Infrastruktur) wird der Wireless-Netzwerkkonfiguration ein Wireless
Access Point hinzugefügt, so dass eine größere Reichweite erzielt wird und mehr Computer an
das Netzwerk angeschlossen werden können. Im Modus Auto Detect (Automatische Erkennung)
kann das Konfigurationsdienstprogramm nach einem Wireless-Netzwerk suchen und automatisch
Verbindung dazu aufnehmen. Für jedes Wireless-Produkt im Wireless-Netzwerk muss im
Konfigurationsdienstprogramm derselbe Modus gewählt werden. Die 22 Mbps Wireless PCI
Adapter sind standardmäßig auf automatische Erkennung eingestellt.

• Klicken Sie auf dem beim Start der Installations-CD angezeigten Bildschirm auf die

Support-Verknüpfung. Folgen Sie den Anweisungen auf dem Bildschirm, um Ihr Modem zu
registrieren und die Garantieinformationen anzuzeigen. Falls die Installations-CD nicht
automatisch ausgeführt wird, klicken Sie unter Windows auf Start und dann auf Ausführen.
Geben Sie in das Dialogfeld „Ausführen“ D:\setup.exe ein. Wenn Ihr CD-ROM-Laufwerk
einen anderen Buchstaben verwendet, geben Sie diesen Buchstaben anstelle von „D“ ein.

Erweiterte Optionen

Gemeinsame Nutzung von Dateien und Druckern

Um die gemeinsame Nutzung von Dateien und Druckern über das drahtlose Netzwerk zu
ermöglichen, müssen Sie auf den Computern, auf denen ein 22 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter
installiert ist, die folgenden Schritte ausführen.

Unter Windows 98 und Me: Klicken Sie auf Windows Start, Einstellungen und dann auf
Systemsteuerung. Doppelklicken Sie auf Netzwerk und klicken Sie dann auf die Schaltfläche

Datei- und Druckerfreigabe. Wählen Sie beide Felder im Fenster „Datei- und Druckerfreigabe“ und
klicken Sie dann auf OK. Jetzt können Dateien und Drucker gemeinsam genutzt werden.

Hinweis: Wenn Ihr Computer direkt mit dem Internet verbunden ist, besteht ein

Sicherheitsrisiko, falls Sie kein Firewall-Programm bzw. keine Hardware-Firewall

verwenden.

Unter Windows 2000 und XP: In Windows 2000 und Windows XP wird die Datei- und
Druckerfreigabe im Administrator-Modus automatisch aktiviert.
