3 Intended Use
Please observe the notes in this operating manual as well as the operating conditions and permissible data in the data sheet so that the system functions perfectly and remains operational for a long time. In case of non-observance of these instructions as well as in case of inadmissible interventions into the system, any liability on our part is void, as is the warranty on the system and accessories!
There are drinking water heating systems in which heated water runs after the cold water supply has been shut off.
The FlowTimer+ Protect serves the simultaneous shut-off of the hot water pipe in case of an alarm by one or more FlowTimer+ (see also chapter 2 "Technical data").
The use of FlowTimer+ Protect requires at least one FlowTimer+ and one FlowTimer+ Hub!
Any other use or use going beyond this shall be deemed improper use. The usetech GmbH is not liable for damages resulting from this. The risk is borne solely by the user.

Installation
The FlowTimer+ Protect must be installed in the piping system by a trained technician according to the installation instructions.
6 Installation
6.1 Measures before installation
If the operating pressure is greater than 10 bar, a pressure
reducer must be installed upstream of the FlowTimer+ Protect.
If no filter has been installed in the cold water inlet of the entire
system, it should now be retrofitted to protect the valve from contamination.
Existing KFR valves, non-return valves or non-return valves
must be tested for function and tightness and replaced if necessary.
6.2 Installation position
The FlowTimer+ Protect is always installed upstream of the
pipeline section to be shut off and the consumer.
03/19 FlowTimer+ Protect Set 12
Page 15
Installation
Install the shut-off valve (2) first! Please observe the cable lengths and the visibility of the
front side of the FlowTimer+ Protect when installing the valve.
The upper part of the system (FlowTimer+ Protect [3]) and the plug connections must not be subjected to mechanical stress (danger of destruction)!
6.3 Installation of the Shut-off valve
The installation position of the shut-off valve (2) is not arbitrary!
It may be installed rotated around its own axis by max. +/- 90 degrees (armature tube and solenoid coil may point to the side, but not downwards)! The valve must also be installed in the correct direction (observe the flow direction arrow on the valve).
The valve body must be easy to open for maintenance work. The
Allen screws on the valve upper body must be accessible from the outside.
The selected mounting position must allow the assembly and
disassembly of the control electronics (3) with solenoid coil (15).
The shut-off valve may only be screwed into the pipeline at the
flange connections using a fork wrench.
03/19 FlowTimer+ Protect Set 13
Page 16
Installation
The FlowTimer+ Protect electronic (3) is firmly screwed to the solenoid coil (15) and forms a unit which must never be separated (loss of warranty).
6.4 Mounting the Electronic on the Shut-off valve
To mount the FlowTimer+ Protect on the shut-off valve, the solenoid coil (15) is placed on the armature tube of the valve (4). Then press briefly and forcefully on top of the solenoid coil (not on the electronics) until the coil audibly engages in the holder. Thus the coil is mounted correctly.
The supplied O-ring between valve body and coil is important. In case of loss or defect, please contact our customer service.
To disassemble, push one or two screwdrivers between valve body (2) and solenoid coil (15). Then lever the coil away from the valve body. This requires a little more force than the previous pressing.
03/19 FlowTimer+ Protect Set 14
Page 17
Installation
Never use tools to lever between the valve and the FlowTimer+ electronics! (danger of destruction)
If the I/O plug is plugged into the socket, this must cause a clicking noise. If not, please check again whether the plug is correctly engaged!
When disconnecting connections, please note to press the locking lugs of the I/O connectors!
The I/O connection cable incl. the plug connections between Hub and Protect are monitored by the electronics as well!
If the FlowTimer+ Protect is supplied with power and this connection is disturbed, it is shut off for safety reasons.
6.5 Electrical connection
Connect the FlowTimer+ Hub to the I/O port (14) of the FlowTimer+ Protect using the I/O connection cable.
Plug the power supply unit into a suitable socket and connect the power supply unit to the power supply connection (18) of the FlowTimer+ Protect.
The I/O connections between the individual FlowTimer+ and the FlowTimer+ Hub are not monitored to easily find a possible single alarm in the alarm group.

Getting Started
WARNING
Electrical voltage can be life-threatening.
The installation of a stationary power supply must be
carried out by a trained electrician.
The system must be commissioned and, if necessary, adapted by a specialist. The local conditions must be observed.
Air in the hot water supply, e.g. in the hot water storage tank, can lead to scalding due to hot water running in if the water supply is interrupted.
7 Getting Started
Disconnect the power supply of the FlowTimer+ Protect from the
socket
Establish water supply Venting and checking the cold and hot water pipes including the
hot water preparation and the heat exchangers
Check consumer for visible leaks, watch out for traces of
limescale! (Toilet flushing, leaking taps, garden connections, washing machines, dishwashers, etc.).
Restore power supply

Getting Started
CAUTION
If warm water is added, there is a risk of scalding!
Disconnect the power supply to FlowTimer+ and
FlowTimer+ Protect to prevent possible shut-off.
A technician needs to take a closer look at your
installation.
The system is then not ready for operation until
clarification!
7.1 Checking the Hot Water Preparation
Setting the water heater to the maximum permissible
temperature and preparing hot water
Open the hot water pipe and test for hot water leakage. Pull the pressure sensor plug on the FlowTimer+ and interrupt
the cold water supply.
The status display of the FlowTimer+, FlowTimer+ Hub and FlowTimer+ Protect must now be permanently red!
At the moment of the interruption of the cold water section, it
must no longer be possible to detect that the hot water circuit is running after the cold water section.
