IMPORTANT INFORMATION
·Severe dehydration and excessive water loss may cause readings
which are lower than actual values. If you believe you are suffering from severe dehydration, consult a healthcare professional immediately.
·If your blood glucose results are lower or higher than usual, and you
do not have symptoms of illness, rst repeat the test. If you have
symptoms or continue to get results higher or lower than usual, follow the treatment advice of your healthcare professional.
·Use only capillary whole blood sample to test your blood glucose. Using other substances will cause wrong results.
·If you are experiencing symptoms that are inconsistent with your
blood glucose test results and you have followed all instructions described in this owner’s manual, call your healthcare professional.
·Inaccurate results may occur in severely hypotensive individuals or patients in shock. Readings which are lower than actual values
may occur for individuals experiencing a hyperglycemic-hyperosmolar
state, with or without ketosis. Critically ill patients should not be tested with blood glucose meters.
·Please refer to your test strip package insert for additional important information.
Important: AST results serve as references only. Please consult your healthcare professional before you begin AST.
What is AST?
Alternative site testing (AST) refers to when individuals check their blood glucose levels using areas of the body other than the ngertip. This system allows AST at the palm, the forearm, the upper arm, the calf or the thigh with results as reliable as those obtained
from ngertip testing.
What’s the advantage?
Fingertips feel pain more readily because they are full of nerve endings (receptors). Since nerve endings are not so condensed at other body sites, tests performed there will be less painful.
When to use AST?
Food, medication, illness, stress and exercise can affect blood glucose levels. Capillary blood at the ngertip reects these changes
faster than capillary blood at other sites. Therefore, when testing
blood glucose during or immediately after a meal or physical exercise, results from AST and ngertip may be signicantly different.
Alternative Site Testing (AST)
We strongly recommend you do AST in the following intervals:
˙In a pre-meal or fasting state (more than 2 hours since the last meal). ˙Two hours or more after taking insulin. ˙Two hours or more after exercise.
Do NOT use AST if:
˙You think your blood glucose is low. ˙You are unaware of hypoglycemia. ˙You are testing for hyperglycemia. ˙Your AST results do not correspond with the way you feel. ˙Your routine glucose results are often uctuating.
How to increase the accuracy?
Stimulating blood perfusion by rubbing the puncture site prior to
blood extraction has a signicant inuence on the glucose value obtained. Blood from a site that has not been rubbed exhibits a measurably different glucose concentration than blood from the nger. When the puncture site is rubbed prior to blood extraction, the
difference is markedly reduced.
Please follow suggestions below before puncturing the skin:
˙Rub the puncture site approximately 20 seconds before penetration. ˙Use a clear cap (included in the kit) while setting the lancing device.
INTRODUCTION TO THE SYSTEM
Intended Use
The system is intended for use outside the body (in vitro diagnostic use). It should be used only for testing glucose (sugar) and only
with fresh capillary whole blood samples (from the nger, the palm,
the forearm, the upper arm, the calf and the thigh). The system is intended for use in the home and in clinical settings. It should not be used for the diagnosis of diabetes or for the testing of newborns.
AST in this system can be used only during steady-state blood glucose conditions described in the section of “About Alternative Site Testing (AST).”
Principle of Measurement
The test is based on the measurement of electrical current generated by the reaction of glucose with the reagent of the strip. The meter measures the current and displays the corresponding blood glucose level. The strength of the current produced by the reaction depends on the amount of glucose in the blood sample.
10

CONTROL TEST
TaiDoc control solutions contain a known amount of glucose that re-
acts with test strips. By comparing your control solution test results with
the expected range printed on the test strip vial label, it is able to check
that the meter and the test strips are working together as a system and that you are performing the test correctly. It is very important that you do this simple check routinely to make sure you get accurate results.
How often should the control solution test be performed?
►When you use this system to test your blood for the first time,
practice the procedure using control solution. When you can do
three tests in a row that are within the expected range, you are ready
to test your blood.
►For routinely check the meter and test strips, perform a single test
for each level of control solution at least once a week.
When should the control solution test be performed?
►When you first get your meter. ►When you begin using a new vial of test strips. ►Whenever you suspect that the meter or test strips are not
working properly.
►When your blood glucose test results are not consistent with how
you feel, or when you think your results are not accurate.
►When your test strips are exposed to extreme environmental
conditions (See Storage section of this manual).
►When you want to practice running the test. ►If you drop the meter.
22
Important Control Solution Information
►Use only TaiDoc control solutions. ►Check the expiration date on the control solution vial. Do not use if
expired.
►Control solution, meter, and test strips should come to room
temperature 68 to 77°F (20 to 25°C) before testing.
►Shake the vial, discard the first drop of control solution, and wipe
off the dispenser tip to ensure a clean sample and an accurate result.
►Use only within 90 days after first opening. Record the discard
date (date opened plus 90 days) on the control solution vial. Discard after 90 days.
►Store the control solution tightly closed at temperatures 36 to
86°F(2 to 30°C). Do not freeze.
NOTE
The control solution range printed on the test strip vial is for control
solution only. It is used to evaluate meter and test strip performance.
It is not a recommended range for your blood glucose level.
23

WARNING!
Contact bars must be inserted all the way into the meter or you may receive
inaccurate test result.
24
Step2 Obtain Control Solution
Shake the control solution vial well. Remove the cap from the control solution bottle. Place
cap on at surface. Squeeze the vial, discard the rst drop, and wipe off the dispenser tip to
prevent contamination. Squeeze the vial again to produce another drop and place this drop
on the top of cap.
Step3 Apply Control Solution
While holding the meter, move the absorbent hole of the test strip to touch the drop of control solution. Then the drop will be
automatically absorbed. Once the conrmation window lls completely, the meter will begin to
count down.
To avoid contaminating the control solution with the contents of the test strip, you have to place a drop of control solution on a clean surface. Do not directly apply control solution to a strip.
25
Step4 Read and Compare the Result
Compare the result shown on the screen with the range printed on the test strip vial. It should fall within this range.
Out-of-range results
If test results fall outside the range printed on the test strip vial, check “Operating Problem” section in troubleshooting guide and repeat the test. If you continue to get out-of-range results, it means that the system may not be working properly. Do NOT test your blood. Contact the place of purchase for help.

Substitute the lancing device cap with the clear cap for alternative site testing. Pull the cocking control back until it clicks.
When lancing the forearm, upper arm, hand, thigh, or calf, avoid lancing the areas with obvi-
ous veins in order to prevent excess bleeding.
The lancing device is now ready for use. Set aside for later use.
29
NOTE
˙Choose a different spot each time you test. Repeated punctures at the
same spot may cause soreness and calluses.
˙Before you decide to begin AST, please consult your health professional.
˙It is recommended that you discard the rst drop of blood as it might
contain tissue uid and serum, which may affect the test result.
Step3 Get a Drop of Blood
Select the puncture site either in nger or in other parts (AST). Clean the puncture site with 70% using cotton moistened with 70% alcohol and let
it air dry.
Fingertip testing Press the lancing device’s tip rmly against the lower side of your ngertip. Press the release button to prick your nger, then a click indicates that
the puncture is complete.
Sites other than ngertip
Please refer to the section, “Alternative Site Testing”, for possible puncture sites.
After penetration, discard the rst drop of blood
with clean tissue paper or cotton. Then gently squeeze the punctured area to obtain blood. Be careful NOT to smear the blood sample. The volume of blood sample must be at least 0.7 microliter ( actual size).
30
NOTE
˙Do not push your punctured nger (with blood on it) against the test
strip or try to apply a smeared blood sample to the test strip.
˙If you do not apply a blood sample to the test strip within 3 minutes, the
meter will automatically turn off. You must remove and reinsert the test
strip to restart the test procedure.
˙The blood should be completely lled the conrmation window before
the meter begins to count down. If you nd that the conrmation window
is not lled with blood when the meter is counting, NEVER try to add more
blood to the test strip. Discard the test strip and retest with a new one.
˙If you have trouble lling the conrmation window, contact the place of
purchase for help.
Step4 Apply Blood into the Test Strip
Apply your blood to the absorbent hole of the test
strip until the conrmation hole is fully covered. The hourglass symbol will ash when the meter
is working.

Expected Test Results
Blood glucose monitoring plays an important role in diabetes control. A long-term study showed that maintaining normal blood glucose levels can reduce the risk of diabetes complications by up to 60%.*1 The results provided by the U-RIGHT TD-4234 system can help you and your healthcare professional monitor and adjust your treatment plan to gain better control of your diabetes.

33
COMPARING METER AND LABORATORY RESULTS
The meter provides you with whole blood equivalent results. The result you obtain from your meter may differ somewhat from your laboratory result due to normal variation. Meter results can be affected by factors and conditions that do not affect laboratory results in the same way. (See test strip package insert for typical accuracy and precision data, and for important information on limitations.) To make an accurate comparison between meter and laboratory results, follow the guidelines below.
Before you go to the lab:
˙ Perform a control solution test to make sure that the meter is working properly. ˙ Fast for at least eight hours before doing comparison tests, if possible. ˙ Take your meter with you to the lab.
While at the lab:
Make sure that the samples for both tests (the meter test and the lab test are taken and tested within 15 minutes of each other).
˙ Wash your hands before obtaining a blood sample. ˙ Never use your meter with blood that has been collected in a
gray-top test tube. ˙ Use fresh capillary blood only.
34
You may still have a variation from the result because blood
glucose levels can change signicantly over short periods of time, especially if you have recently eaten , exercised, taken medication, or experienced stress*3. In addition, if you have eaten recently, the blood glucose level from a nger prick can be up to 70 mg/dL higher
than blood drawn from a vein (venous sample) used for a lab test.*
4
Therefore, it is best to fast for eight hours before doing comparison tests. Factors such as the amount of red blood cells in the blood (a
high or low hematocrit) or the loss of body uid (dehydration) may
also cause a meter result to be different from a laboratory result.
