Check your version of OS X

Some of the instructions in this guide are aimed at specic versions of the Mac OS X operating system. To nd which version of Mac OS X you are running, do the following:
1. Click the Apple icon in the top left of the screen and select the option, About this Mac.
2. On the About This Mac box that pops up, the version number is directly beneath the Mac OS X title.
Users of OS X 10.5 (and older) are advised to upgrade their operating system, due to the withdrawal of Apple security updates for older versions.

Access ConnectMail online with OWA

You can access ConnectMail without setting up email software, by using the online version of Outlook. OWA has most of the functionality available in the desktop programme, and can be used interchangeably with it.

Sign in with your Kent username and password in this format UKC\abc1 (replacing abc1 with your username).

Entourage

Entourage is no longer supported and users are advised to switch to Outlook 2011 or Mail for Mac instead, or to access their email online with OWA.

Setup Outlook 2011

The University’s recommended email client for Mac is Outlook 2011. This is the latest version of what was previously Entourage and comes as part of Ofce 2011. It allows you to connect to your ConnectMail account via Exchange and access your email, calendar, contacts, tasks and notes. Visit the website below for more information:

A copy of Ofce 2011 for installation on University-owned Intel Macs, can be obtained from the Welcome Desk, Templeman library. Permanent staff can buy a copy of the software for their own computer for £5 (timesheeted staff must have worked at least 200 hours to qualify).
Setup instructions
The following setup instructions will work off campus as well as on campus:
1. Open Outlook 2011:
L If you see the Welcome to Outlook for Mac screen, click Add Account at the bottom to add a new
account. In the Accounts window, choose to add an Exchange Account. Go to step 2.
L If you don’t see the Welcome to Outlook for Mac screen, go to the Outlook menu and click Tools,
Accounts. Then click the ‘+’ symbol located in the bottom left-hand corner of the Accounts window and select Exchange from the small list that pops out.
2. In the Exchange account information box enter the following details:
L E-mail address: enter your Kent email address
L Authentication method: User Name and Password
L User name: Kent username in the format UKC\abc1
L Password: your Kent password.
L Congure automatically: leave ticked
