INSTRUCTION MANUAL
Check Fuses
Turn ON the mains to the fuses. Run the probe across the fuses. A dead fuse is indicated when the Detector stops responding.
Insert the probe into each slot of the AC outlet. The one with the stronger signal is the “live” slot.
To Check Safety Grounding Of Power Tools Or Appliances
Connect the equipment to the mains. Place the probe in contact with the metal housing. If no signals occur when equipment is switched on and off, then it is safety grounded.
To Check Continuity On DC Circuits (3V or Up)
Remove cap from probe and place probe in contact with the circuit. Place free hand on ground connection of circuit. The indicators will be triggered if voltage exists.
To Check Auto Accessories
Detector can quickly find the source of current failure to the ignition switch, lights, or other accessories. Remove cap from probe and touch probe to the accessory while placing the free hand on the car body. If no response occurs, then the failure is in the accessory.

Periodic service
WARNING!
Repair and service of this instrument is to be performed by qualified personnel only. Improper repair or service could result in physical degradation of the instrument. This could alter the protection from electrical shock and personal injury this meter provides to the operator. Perform only those maintenance tasks that you are qualified to do.
These guidelines will help you attain long and reliable service from your meter:
1. Calibrate your meter annually to ensure it meets original performance specifications.
2. Keep your meter dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately. Liquids damage electronic circuits.
3. Whenever pra c t i cal, keep the meter away from dust and dirt, which can cause premature wear.
4. Although your meter is built to withstand the rigors of daily use, it can be damaged by severe impacts. Use reasonable caution when using and storing the meter.
Cleaning and Decontamination
Periodically clean your meter’s case using a damp cloth. DO NOT use abrasives, cleaning solvents or strong detergents, as they may damage the finish or affect the reliability of the structural components.
Introduction
The UTL7002 pocket-clip voltage detector sounds off with a loud tone and lights its LED indicator when it’s held near an AC voltage source. It can also be used as a quick “contact” DC detector for voltages as low as 3 volts DC with plastic cap removed.
Features include
• Detect live voltages (50 to 500 ACV and 30 to 220 DCV)
• AC and DC voltage detection
• Batteries included (AB13)
Safety Notes
Before using this detector, always test on a known voltage source to make sure it is operating properly. Do not remove the cap from the probe when detecting voltage over 250 volts.
WARNING!
Exceeding the specified limits of this meter is dangerous and can expose the user to serious or possibly fatal injury.
• Rubbing or banging the detector may generate static electricity and cause a false reading
• Because of its sensitivity to extremely small currents, a false reading may occur in some situations, e.g. a conductor with poor insulation touching a damp wall will show voltage across the damp area, indicating a potential hazard. A voltmeter should be used to check the problem.
• Keep your fingers away from the test lead metal probe contacts and bus-bars when making measurements. Always grip the instrument and test-leads behind the hand guards (molded into the probes).
• In the event of electrical shock, ALWAYS bring the victim to the emergency room for evaluation, regardless of the victim’s apparent recovery. Electrical shock can cause an unstable heart rhythm that may need medical attention.
Operating Instructions
Before use, push the Pen Clip (On/Off Switch) toward the probe. When detecting AC or DC current, gently press and hold the Pen Clip, making contact with the metal plate.
Detecting Breaks In Cables Or Appliance Leads
Move the probe along the cable. A break is indicated at the point where the LED and buzzer cease to respond.
To Locate A Live Wire In Flat Cables
Hold the cable in one hand and point the probe tip toward it. The side which causes the strongest response from the detector contains the “live” wire.
