Full refund will NOT be granted to any kits that are
damaged, scratched, or altered in any fashion.
Note: Before doing any modifications inspect your vehicle to assure the
new part fits your application. This includes length, and spline sizes
(column and steering box).
1) Turn your vehicle’s wheels so that they are in the straight-ahead position.
Make sure your steering wheel does not move to insure correct steering
wheel alignment.
2) Remove the factory steering shaft fasteners that secure the unit to the
steering box and steering column. Remove the factory steering shaft from
your vehicle.
3) Measure the distance between the steering column and the steering box.
NOTE: This measurement should be made from the notch in the
steering box shaft to the notch on the steering column shaft
4) Find the centered length of the UNISTEER shaft. Do this by completely
collapsing the shaft, taking a measurement, and then completely
extending the shaft, taking a measurement and splitting the difference of
the two measurements. (Fig. 2, 3 & 4).
5) Install the U-Joints on the Unisteer shaft (that has been centered). Be sure
that each end of the shaft is flush to the inside of the u-joint yokes.
Measure from the pinch bolt on the lower u-joint to the pinch bolt on the
upper u-joint. Refer to the distance between the steering box and steering
column and compare that dimension to the Unisteer shaft. They should be
with in 2 inches of each other. If the Unisteer shaft is more than 2 inches
too long remove the tube side u-joint and cut to size. If the shaft is too
short, extend it past center, but NOT more than 2.5 inches.
NOTE: Some applications such as early Jeeps & GM’s include a stub
shaft that needs to be pinned into the tube side of Unisteer shaft.
Account for this additional length. (see fig. 5-6 below)
