General information
1.1 - SYMBOLS USED IN THIS MANUAL
When reading this manual, a particular attention has to be given to the parts marked with the following symbols:

1.2 - PROPER USE OF THE APPLIANCE
The appliance M 3000 has been manufactured on the base of the actual state of the technique and the knowle-
dge of the technical safety rules.
Nevertheless, following to an improper use, could rise up dangers for the safety and the life of the user or other people, or damages to the boiler or to other objects. The appliance is designed for the operation in hot water heating systems. Any different use is considered as improper. For any resultant damage from an improper use UNICAL is not taken on any responsibility; in such a case the responsibility is completely of the user. An use according to the anticipated purposes also foresees that the instructions of this manual are strictly complied with.
1.3 - WATER TREATMENT (see specific manual)
The hardness of the appliance feeding water must have the characteristics requested in the specific instruction
sheet, supplied with the boiler.
The user of the boiler needs to be educated on the use and on the operation of his heating system. For this, the
installer has: To deliver this instruction manual to the user, together with the other documents supplied with the appliance. The user has to keep such documentation in a safe place so that to be able to have it available for every further consultation. To inform the user regarding the control of the water pressure in the boiler and how to restore it. To inform the user regarding the correct regulation of temperatures, outer compensators/thermostats and radiators to save energy. If the appliancehad to have sold or transferred to another owner or if it was had to move and to leave the instrument, to always make sure himself/herself/themselves that the book accompanies the instrument so that can be consulted

1.5 - WARNINGS FOR THE SAFETY
ATTENTION! The installation, adjustment and the maintenance of the appliance have to be performed by professionally qualified personnnel, in conformity to the normes and local rules in force, because a wrong installation can provoque damages to people, animals and things, for which the manufacturer cannot be considered re­sponsible.
DANGER ! Never try to perform jobs of maintenance or reparations of the boiler of your own initiative. Any interven­tion must be performs from personnel professionally qualified. You are recommended to stipulate a maintenance contract . A poor or irregular maintenance can jeopardize the operational safety of the appliance and provoke dama­ges to people, animals and things for which the manufacturer cannot be considered responsible.
Changes to the parts connected to the appliance
Don't effect changes to the elements that influence the operational safety of the appliance
Attention !
To tighten or to loosen the threaded connections use only suitable open wrenches. The use of non suitable tools can provoke some damages (i.e. water leakages).

1.7 - GENERAL WARNINGS
This instruction manual is an integral and indispensable part of the product and must be retained by the user.
Please read carefully the instructions contained in this manual as they provide important indications regarding the safe installation, use and servicing of this appliance.
Keep this manual in a safe place for future reference.
The installation and servicing must be carried out in accordance with the regulations in force according to the manufacturer’s instructions and by legally competent authorized persons.
By a competent person, we imply a person who has a specific technical qualification in the field of components for central heating systems for domestic use, domestic hot water production and servicing. The person must have the qualifications foreseen by the current laws in force.
Bad or irregular servicing could compromise the safe operation of the appliance, and could cause injury to persons, animals or damage to property. The manufacturer shall not be held liable for any such injury and/or damage.
Before carrying out any cleaning or servicing turn off the electrical supply to the boiler by means of the ON/OFF switch and/or by means of the appropriate shutdown devices.
Do not obstruct the inlet/outlet terminals.
In the event of failure and/or faulty functioning of the appliance, switch off the boiler. Do not attempt to make any repairs: contact qualified technicians.
Any repairs must be carried out solely by Unical authorized technicians and using only original spare parts. Non­observance of the above requirement may jeopardize the safety of the appliance.
To guarantee the efficiency and correct functioning of the appliance it is indispensable to have the boiler serviced annually by a qualified person.
If the boiler remains unused for long periods, ensure that any dangerous parts are rendered innocuous.
If the appliance is sold or transferred to another owner or if the present user moves home and leaves the appliance installed, ensure yourself that the manual always follows the appliance so that it can be consulted by the new owner and/or installer.
Only original accessories must be used for all appliances supplied with optional extras or kits (including electrical ones).
This appliance must be used only for the purposes for which it has been expressively designed. Any other use shall be considered incorrect and therefore dangerous.

2.1 - TECHNICAL FEATURES
The thermal module M 3000 S solves the problem on howto feed the heating circuit to the most convenient temperature according to the needs of the user and the environmental situation . The thermal module M 3000 S allows to connect a wall hung or freestand boiler to a heating installation made by two hea­ting circuits working at different temperatures:
- A radiator or fan coil heating circuit (high temperature) con­trolled by the boiler.
- A floor heating circuit (low temperature), controlled by the thermal module
Furthermore it allows the use, on a floor heating installation, of boilers which are not foreseen for direct operation at low temperature in floor heating installation.

3.2 - INSTALLATION NORMS
All the local rules concerning the installation, the safety and the water treatment have to be complied with.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
3.1 - GENERAL WARNINGS
ATTENTION! This appliance has been designed only for iinside installations. Therefore this applian­ce must not be installed and operated out­doors. An outdoors installation could cause malfunctioning and could be dangerous.
Before connecting the appliance ask for the execution of an accurate washing of all the pi­pings by a professional qualified technician, in order to remove possible residues or even­tuali residui o impurities, that could jeopardise the good operation of the appliance.
ATTENTION! The appliance must be installed by a quali­fied engineer who, under his own responsi­bilityguarantees the compliance of the stan­dards, according to the latest regulations.
ATTENTION! The appliance must be positioned so that at le­ast the minimum operational and servicing clea­rances are provided.
The appliance must be connected to a heating system which is compatible to its performance and output.

3.3 - Packaging
The thermal module M 3000 S is supplied completely assem- bled in a strong cardboard box.
Agfter removal of the appliance fron the carton, make sure the appliance is complete and not damaged.
The packaging elements, such as the carton, plastic strip and bag, should not be left to the
reach of children, because possible sources of danger. Unical refuses any responsibility for damages
caused to persons, animals and goods fol­lowing to the non observance of this statement.

3.4 - POSITIONING OF THE APPLIANCE
When chosing the appliance installation place follow strictly the following safety indications:
- Install the appliance in a place protected from freezing.
- The appliance has to be installed in a vertical and strong wall, capable to support its weight.
- The wall shall not be of flammable material.
- Keep a clearance of 50 mm on both sides of the appliance
in order to ease the possible service operations.
The drawing beside gives the indications necessary for the positioning of the thermal module.
In the upper part there are:
- the holes to hang the module to the wall (on the rear fra­me)
- the C.H. return connection to the boiler - R.
- the C.H. flow connection from the boiler - M.
In the lower part there are:
- Return from High Temperature circuit (R1)
- Flow to High Temperature circuit (M1)
- Return from Mixed Temperature circuit (Rm)
- Flow to Mixed Temperature circuit (Mm)

Finishing:
- The cover of the embedding can be painted with cold-wa­ter paint. It is suggested to use, first, a filler paint in order to improve the grip.
Mounting of the embedding cover:
- Hook the cover first in the upper part and then push it towards the embedding unit.
- Close the cover with the locking key.
Only for M 3000 S integrated version in the wall.
IInstruction for the embedding mounting of the unit.
The unit to be integrated allows to position the M 3000 S inc. completely hiden in the wall thickness. The frame is endowed of rear hooks for hunging the module.
In the upper and lower parts the holes simply allow an easy connection to the boiler and to the heating circuits.
With the embedding mounting version the following mate­rials are supplied with:
- Closing cover for the embedding
- Key for theopening-locking of the cover.
- Connection pipes
Mounting of the embedding version unit:
- Get a niche having the dimensions of the embedded ver­sion unit and a free space below this in order to be able to perform the hidraulic connections.
- Position the unit in the niche and fixit it with PU foam; for a better result use also the lateral brackets.
- In order to avoid the risk of a thermal bridge between the living unit and the niche, place in between a convenient thickness of insulating material.

3.5 - MOUNTING OF THE UNIT
Before connecting the unit, make first: a) A careful washing of all the pipings with a suitable product,
in order to eliminate the metallic residues of working and welding, of oil and grease that could damage and alterate the unit operation.
For the mounting of the unit:
- Once choosen the position of the thermal module, drill the fixing holes as shown in the picture of page 11. l
3.6 - HYDRAULIC CONFIGURATIONS
The thermal module M 3000 S can be used alone or con­nected together with other modules up to a maximum of 14 modules.
A module makes the function of main controller (MASTER); its duty is the collection of the requests from other secondary modules (SLAVE) and the control of the boiler. Each module can be connected to its own, optional, modula­ting room thermostat (REGOLAFACILE).

- Fix the unit to the all using suitable screw anchors (not sup­plied).
- Mark the position of flow and return of the different circuits (boiler M - R, high temperature M1 - R1, mixed temperature Mm - Rm).
HEATING
The heating flow and return of the boiler must be connected to the Thermal Module as shown in the picture (upper side). From the lower side there are:
- R1 = Return from high temperature heating circuit
- M1 = Flow to high temperature heating circuit
- Rm = Return from low temperature heating circuit (floor heating circuit)
- Mm = Flow to low temperature heating circuit (floor hea­ting)

3.7 - CONNECTION OF THE HEATING SIDE
WARNING!
Before connecting the unit make a careful washing of the pipings with a suitable product in order to eliminate the metallic residues of working and welding, of oil and grease that could damage and alterate the unit operation.
The non compliance to the instructions of this manual can cause damages to people, animals and googs, for which the manufac­turer cannot be considered responsible.
The heating flow and return must be connected to the relevant fittings 3/4” M and R as shown on page 11.

For the dimensioning of the heating circuit it is necessary to keep into consideration the hydraulic resistance generated by the radiators, the possible thermostatic valves, the radiator valves and the configuation of the whole heating system.
The layout of the pipes must be conceived in such a manner to avoid air locks and facilitate the continuous air venting of the system.
Make sure the pipes of the sanitary and hea­ting water are not used as earthing of the electric or telephone installations. They are not absolutely suitable for this use. In a short time damages to the pipes, boiler and radiators could take place.

Acting on the speed selector of the pump of the thermal module, it is possible to adjust the ther­mal module to the actual need of the heating circuit (see the pump curves).

APPLICATION WITH SOLAR INTEGRATION
Connect the supply of the priming pump of the D.H.W. loading pump on the terminal strip of the M 3000 S in correspondence of the terminals BOILER (TA). The connection between the boiler and M 3000 S must be done on the terminals BOILER (OT/+) (see wiring diagram on page 23).

3.9 - ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
General warnings!
The appliance electrical safety is granted only when the ap­pliance is connected to a good earthing point, as foreseen by the standards in force: the gas pipes, water pipes and C.H. pipes cannot be used as earthing points.
It is necessary to verify that this safety requirement is com­plied with. In case of doubt ask for a precise control by a professionally qualified personnel, because the manufactu­rer is not responsible for damages originated by the non com­pliance with this requirement.
Ask a professionally qualified personnel for inspection ade­quacy of the electrical installation to the maximum absobed output of the appliance, making sure that the cable cross ­section is suitable.
For the main supply it is not allowed to use adapters, multiple sockets and cable extensions.
In the utilisation of any electrical device the following founda­mental rules have to be complied with:
• do not touch the appliance with wet hands and/or nacked feet;
• do not pull the cables;
• do not install the appliance to the outdoor (rain, sun, etc.);
• do not allow the appliance is used by children or inexpe­rienced people.
Connection to the main supply 230V
The appliance is equipped with a supply cable of 1.5 meters and a cross section of 3x0.75 mm² , connected to the terminal socket Y2 of the printed circuit board M 3000 S.
The elctrical wirings are shown on the chapter "ELECTRICAL WIRING" (paragraph 3.9 page 20).
The appliance needs to be connected to a main supply of 230 V - 50 Hz. This connection must be workmanlike performed, as stated by the rules in force.
Danger! The electrical installation must be performed only by an authiorized technician. Before making the connections or any other electrical work on the electrical parts, cut the electrical supply and make sure that it cannot be restored accidentally.

Outer Sensor
The outer sensor (code SND0140C) is tandard supplied with the M 3000 S.
Also in case of installation with more thermal modules, just one outer sensor, to be con- nected to the main module (MASTER) is enough.
Position the outer sensor from 2.5 m from the ground, on a wall NORTH/NORTH-EAST oriented, protected from the sun and the predominant winds.
To avoid electromagnetic disturbances it is ne­cssary to separate the harness between outer sensor and the M 3000 S terminal strip from 230 V harness.

Connection of a TIMER ON-OFF (night shift)
If an ON/OFF TIMER is used for the night reduction, make the connection to the terminals ROOM STAT / NS. The jumper JP1 (on the PCB of M 3000 S ) must be moved as shown in the picture.

The connection of just one M 3000 S to a boiler (with data communication capacity) does not require any setting or pro­gramming intervention: the system is already factory set with the parameters suitable to the most of low temerature installa­tions.
If the REGOLAFACILE is NOT installed, the adjustment of the low temperature circuit will be done through the manual control PCB, code 00630130.

3.15 - ADJUSTMENT OF THE CLIMATIC CURVE
For an installation with two circuits, of which one working at H.T. for radiators and one for L.T. floor heating:
- Adjust the maximum desired temperature in the H.T. circuit
through the potmeter placed in the front of the boiler panel board.

With this solution it is possible to control the flow temperature according to the variation of the outer temperature. It is then necessary to configurate the climatic curve. The curve is drawn by the introduction of the maximum and minimum calculated flow temperatures: the first has to be selected via the trimmer ''C'', while the second is adjusted through the parameter (2) of Regolafacile (dL = MINIMUM HEATING TEMPERATURE). Subsequently it is necessary, through the trimmer “A”, to adjust the maximum flow temperature to the minimum outer tempe­rature. This temperature, obviously, is different zone by zone and depends on the climatic caracteristics of the installation site (this corresponds to the minimum outer design tempera­ture). The minimum flow temperature, on the contrary, is automati­cally assigned by the module in correspondance of an outer temperature equal to the value adjusted on the trimmer ''B''. Once these parameters have been adjusted, the boiler will select on the climatic curve a flow temperature avccording to the temperature detected by the outer sensor. The connection to a modulating boiler allows the climatic re­gulation also in the high temperature circuit, by using the set­ting of the boiler (parameter Oc). If this setting is not available through the communication (ALKON 28) the parameter ‘’Oc’’ for the high temperature is detected by the position of the trimmer ‘’A’’.

Adjustment of the climatic curve through the REGOLAFACILE.
In the installations, that foresee, togheter with the outer sensor, not an ON/OFF room ther­mostat, but the REGOLAFACILE, the adjust­ment has to be done exclusively by the re­mote control.
The graph, (present also in the user’s manual of the REGOLA­FACILE) shows some types of working curves referred to a requested room temperature of 20 °C. It is easily visible that the curves 0.2- 0.8 are particularly indicated for low tempera­ture circuits (floor and wall heating), whilst the ones 1 – 3 are for medium and high temperature (radiators, fancoils, etc…). If the room temperature adjusted on the REGOLAFACILE is different than 20°C the curves slide downwards or upwards od about 2.5 °C for each degree, respectively in minus or in

plus of the theoretical 20°. If, for instance, the selected curve is the n. “2” and the outer temperature is 0° C the theoretical calculated flow temperatu­re will be of about 68° C. At this point the actual flow tempera­ture will be of 68°C if the requested flow temperature is 20 °C,
70.5°C if this is 21°C, 73°C if it is 22°C and so on. To adjust the working curve it is convenient to followwthese instructions:
- Select the working curve visibly on the graph, on the base of the C.H. installation characteristics.
- Open the shutter of the REGOLAFACILE
- Push the button + up to find the TECHNICAL menu.
- Push OK: the parameter HEATING CURVE is shown.
- Push OK and subsequently insert the coefficient of the selected cuve, which is on the right of the graph.
- Push OK and close the shutter.

temperature detected by the REGOLAFACILE has no weight; then if we set 21°C and in the room we have 22°C the boiler continues to operate. To switch OFF the boiler when the room conditions are sati­sfied it is necessary to act on the parameter “WEIGHT OF THE ROOM SENSOR” (TECHNICAL menu) by changing it to a value different than zero.
The parameter WEIGHT OF THE ROOM SENSOR represents the number of degrees which will be added by the REGOLA­FACILE to the theoretical flow temperature, calculated on the base of the working curve of the outer sensor, detected in the room. See the example:

ERROR CODES
The three leds indicated on the PCB of the thermal module show few but foundamental informations that can help during the service operations.
To get acces to the leds it is necessary to remo­ve the cover of the electrical box.
RED LED (DL1):
ON = An error has been detectedo
OFF = None error detectd
GREEN led (DL2):
ON = Operation in heating mode
LAMP. = Anti-freeze function is ON
OFF = Stand-by
YELLOW led (depends on the applications).
For a secondary module (SLAVE):

Error codes
Each error is characterized by a priority level: if two errors are detected at the same time the code with higher priority is shown.
priority 1 = low priority priority 13 = high priority
code 4 6 priority 1 Boiler out of order (only if communicating) Description:The boiler has detectd an internal fault.
code 4 7 priority 2 Communication problems with the boiler
Correction:
Verify the connection between Z1-BOILER and

Error in the outer sensor It is shown only if the switch 2 = ON and the parameter od the Regolafacile ES = 1.
In this case the assumed external temperature will be -20 °C in order to grant in any case the floor heating.
Correction:
If connecting temporarily a new outer sensor the error code disapears, replace definetively the outer sensor; on the con­trary, if the error does not desapear check its connections.
code 2 2 priority 6 Faulty mixed flow sensor Description:
The flow temperature sensor of the low tempe-
rature circuit is faulty.
Consequence: the pump of MODUL 3000 S is not working.
Correction:
If connecting temporarily a new sensor the error code disap­pears replace definetively the faulty sensor; on the contrary, if the error code does not disappear check its connections.
code 1 0 priority 7 Limit thermostat of the M3000 S has cut the circuit Description:
Intervention of the limit thermostat.
Consequence: the pump of M 3000 S is not working.
Correction:
Ascertain the good contact between the temperature sensor on the outlet of the low temperature circuit (see fig. 2 pos.5) and the pipe on which it is fixed; ascertain, also, that the mixing valve is not blocked.
That can be seen on the REGOLAFACILE
code 9 priority 8 In case of freezing
Description:
Only the low temperature circuit is controlled: if the temperatu­re detected by the sensor is equal or below 2 °C the pump and the mixing valve are not electrically supplied. When the detected temperature will be higher than 5°C the mixing val­ve and the pump will be re-activated.
Correction:
The low temperature circuit needs to be conveniently war­med.
code 1 4 priority 9 Sensor of high temperature water arriving from the boiler. Description:
Interruption or short circuit in the sensor of high temperature water arriving from the boiler.
Correction:
If connecting temporarily a new sensor the error code disap­pears replace definetively the faulty sensor; on the contrary, if the error code does not disappear check its connections.
code 50+BC priority 1 0
MASTER MODULE : It is not possible to establish the commu­nication between the MASTER M 3000 S and the a M3000 S SLAVE. The BC (Bus Code) shown on the display will be a figure given by the addition of 50 and the No. identifying the SLAV E MODULE with which the communication is impossible. Example: difficulty of communication with the SLAVE 2: the display will show the code 52. SLAVE MODULE : It is not possible to establish the communi­cation between a SLA VE M3000S and the M 3000S MASTER. The BC (Bus Code) shown on the display will be 50, which is the identification No. of the MASTER.
Correction:
Check the harness.
1) Verify the BUS CODE of the SLAVE MODULES 3000.
2) Verify if all the SLAVE have the same error.
Replace the PCB of the MASTER module Otherwise replace the PCB of the SLAVE one.
code 2 priority 11 User’s parameters Description:

Correction:
The user’s parameters need to be restored with a REGOLA­FACILE

5.1 - COMMISSIONING
- Fill the heating circuit (see the boiler user instructions)
- Purge the air from the air vent of the thermal module, pla-
ced on the air separator.
- Check the pressure in the system through the boiler mano-
meter.
- Ascertain that there are not water leakes.
- Connect to the mais 230V-50Hz the electrical supply ca-
bles of the boiler and the thermal module (s).
- Reset the limit thermostat
- Start the boiler in winter mode and purge again the heating
system.
- Switch ON the thermal module (the switch is positioned on
the R.H. side wall).
5.2 - BALANCING OF THE CIRCUITS
- Remove the plug ''A'' from the adjusting valve and proce-
de with the balancing of the circuit by acting on the adju­sting screw ''B'' with a 12 mm Allen wrench.

ADJUSTMENTS
5.3 - BALANCING METHOD OF THE HIGH TEMPERATURE CIRCUITS
The balancing of the two high temperature circuits can be done through this procedure:
- Once all the hydraulic connections have been done start
the system with zero balancing (the adjusting valve 4 fully open).
- In a few minutes the temperature of the mixing bottle 3 will
raise, whilst the direct flow to the high temperature circuit will have difficulty to reach the wished output. It is possible to smoothly verify that the flow and return pipes will beco­me warm.
- Activate also the low temperature circuit once the desired flow temperature has been set through the manual control PCB or the REGOLAFACILE.
- At this moment start to close the adjusting valve 4 of one turn at the time, verifying through a termometer the opera­ting temperature of the furthest direct radiator.
- Once the furthest radiator has reached the desired tempe­rature, verify that the low temperature circuit is able to main­tain the desired temperature. At this moment the correct balancing has been reached.
- Once the balancing has been done, it is suggestable to adjust also the intermediate radiators to the actual thermal needs.
