IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS
1. READ INSTRUCTIONS - Read all safety and operating instructions before operating this product.
2. RETAIN INSTRUCTIONS - Retain the safety and operating instructions for future reference.
3. CLEANING - Unplug all equipment before cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for cleaning.
4. ATTACHMENTS - Use only attachments recommended by the manufacturer. Non-recommended attachments may result in the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury.
5. WATER AND MOISTURE - Keep all equipment away from liquids or any other type of moisture.
6. ACCESSORIES - Do not place this television equipment on an unstable cart, stand or table. The television equipment may fall causing serious injury to a child or adult, and serious damage to the equipment. Wall or shelf mounting should follow the manufacturer’s instructions, and should use a mounting kit approved by the manufacturer.
7. POWER SOURCE - The camera should only be operated from the type of power source indicated in this Instruction Manual.
8. POWER CORDS - Do not allow anything to rest on the power cord. Do not locate this product where the cord will be abused by persons walking on it.
9. LIGHTNING - When this product is left unattended or unused for long periods of time, unplug it from the power supply and disconnect it from other equipment. This will prevent damage to the video product due to lightening and power-line surges.

10. OVERLOADING - Do not overload wall outlets and extension cords as this can result in a risk of fire or electric shock.
11. FOREIGN OBJECTS - Never insert objects of any kind into this product through openings as they may touch dangerous voltage points or short-out parts that could result in a fire or electric shock.
12. SERVICING - Do not attempt to service this product yourself as opening or removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltage or other hazards. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.
13. DAMAGE REQUIRING SERVICE - Disconnect the camera equipment and refer servicing to qualified service personnel under the following conditions: a) When the power-supply cord or the plug has been
damaged. b) If the video product has been exposed to moisture. c) The video product does not operate normally by
following the operating instructions, adjust only those
controls that are covered by the operating instructions
as an improper adjustment of other controls may
result in damage and will often require extensive work
by a qualified technician to restore the video product
to its normal operation. d) If the video product has been dropped, or the cabinet
damaged.
When the video product exhibits a distinct change in
performance - this indicates a need for service.

SECTION 1
TVC-500 CCD BLACK & WHITE CAMERA
1.1 PURPOSE
The TVC-500 CCD Black & White Camera provides a low cost
solution to closed circuit television and security surveillance
applications. The TVC-500 Camera features:
1/3” Interline Transfer CCD Image Sensor
Minature lens - 4.5mm or 6.5mm
Equipped with electronic iris
Attractive Ball enclosure
Operates on 24V AC with line lock
Excellent picture quality
Indoor and outdoor usage
Two-year warranty
This manual describes how to setup and operate the TVC-500
Camera.
1.2 SYSTEM INSTALLATION
Installation of the TVC-500 Camera must be performed by
qualified service personnel in accordance with all local and
national electrical and mechanical codes. Perform the following
steps to install the TVC-500 Camera.
A. Remove all components from the package and identify the
items that will be used during installation:

Other items used during the installation that are NOT supplied with the TVC-500 Camera may include:
24V AC power supply
Mounting hardware
Camera stand or mounting bracket
Video cable
Monitor
Refer to Figure 1 for identification of the TVC-500 Camera.

B. Select a suitable location for the camera. Remove the head
of the camera from the base by grasping the top of the base and turning it in a counter-clockwise direction to the arrow mark on the base. See figure 2.

C. Decide the direction, the cables will be inserted into the base
of the camera. If the cable is to enter through the bottom of the base, use the knock out labeled “Hole A” in Figure 3. If the cable is to enter through the side of the base, pierce the rubber bushings labeled “Hole B” in Figure 3.

In the case of outdoor installation, apply a proper
sealing agent (silicone RTV) around the hole(s) or the

bushing(s) to ensure that water cannot penetrate into the camera base.
D. Attach the base of the camera to a wall, ceiling, or post using
an appropriate fastener through the mounting holes in the base. See figure 4. The camera must be attached to a structural object, such as a wall stud or ceiling rafter, that supports the weight of the camera and mount.

E. Strip the video coaxial cable and connect to the camera as
illustrated in figure 5. Fold the shield over the insulation as shown.Use only RG59/U type cable for the video signal.

F. Wire the 24V AC power supply to the AC power connector on
the back of the camera as shown in figure 5. Use only a UL listed Class 2 power transformer.

G. Reattach the camera to the base by aligning the arrows and
turning clockwise.
H. Apply power to the camera.
I. Aim the camera by loosening the lock nut and positioning the
head, as necessary. See figure 6.

J. Adjust the lens focus and iris controls for an optimum picture.
1.3 FOCUS ADJUSTMENT
A. Remove the front of the camera by grasping the front of the
head and turning counter-clockwise. See figure 7.

B. Use a small screwdriver and loosen the lens set screw(s) as
shown in figure 8. Do not remove the screws completely from the lens mount.

C. Slowly turn the lens to adjust the focus by observing the
picture on the monitor screen.
D. Tighten the lens set screw(s), while observing the monitor to
ensure the focus does not change.

E. Close the ball enclosure by aligning the arrows and turning
clockwise.
1.4 PHASE ADJUSTMENT
Phase Adjustment is used in multi-camera systems when power
is supplied from different sources, causing the cameras to be out
of phase. This situation affects auto switching of the cameras by
causing a vertical flip or roll during the switch interval. The
vertical phase adjustment allows the camera’s line lock sync to
by adjusted from 0 to 260 degrees with reference to the zero line
crossing the AC frequency.
a) Ensure that all cameras are powered from the same
electrical source and wired in a similar fashion.
b) Remove the rubber cap covering the phase adjustment
control.
c) Adjust the phase control on the back of the camera until
there is no vertical flip or roll on the monitor when using the auto switcher. See figure 9.

TROUBLESHOOTING AND MAINTENANCE
2.1 TROUBLESHOOTING
If problems occur, verify the installation of the camera with the
instructions in this manual and with other operating equipment.
Isolate the problem to the specific piece of equipment in the
system and refer to the equipment manual for further information.
Problem Possible Solution
No Video 1. Verify power to all pieces of equipment
in the system.
2. Verify that the power switches are in the ON position.
3. Verify that the lens cap has been removed from the lens or that the iris of the lens is open.
4. Verify that the shield wires on the video coaxial cable are not shorted to the center conductor of the cable.
Video, but no control
1. Power down the system for one
minute, then turn power back ON.
2.2 PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE
Preventive maintenance allows detection and correction of minor faults before they become serious and cause equipment failure.
Every three months, perform the following maintenance:
a) Inspect all connecting cables for deterioration or other
damage.
b) Clean components with a clean damp cloth.
c) Verify that all the mounting hardware is secure.
