Instructions for the Valkia 2D fireplace
Congratulations on your purchase of a see-through Tulikivi
fireplace! Being double-sided, the Valkia 2D has a door on
each side, and so its air control system is slightly different
than in a single-sided unit. Otherwise follow the Tulikivi fireplace operating instructions.
OPEN THE AIR CONTROL LEVERS OF BOTH
MAINTENANCE DOORS
Before using the fireplace, open the air control levers of the
two maintenance doors (see picture 1). Leave them open
while the fire is burning, and close them only after the embers have died completely.
USE OF BY-BASS DAMPER WHEN USING
A TOP-VENTED VALKIA 2D
1) When lighting the fire, first open the by-bass damper (see
picture 2). Note! Keep the by-bass damper open for just 5
minutes, then close it. Keeping the by-bass damper open for
longer periods while the fire is burning can increase the temperature in the flue so much that it overheats and becomes
damaged or causes a fire hazard.
2) Follow the Tulikivi fireplace instructions for heating the
fireplace. When you add more wood, open the by-bass
damper at the same time (see picture 2), as this will prevent smoke entering the room through the open fireplace
door. Open the door, add the wood, then close the door and
close the by-bass damper.
CLEANING THE TOP-VENTED VALKIA 2D
Make sure that the fireplace is completely cold when you
clean it. Open the damper during cleaning to make sure the
fly ash goes up the flue and not into the room.
The top-vented Valkia 2D is cleaned via the cover on top
of the fireplace. First remove the cover (see picture 3). Then
remove the metallic plug below (see picture 4). Clean the
channel underneath as well as the side channel on the right
and the upper combustion area on the left (see picture 5).
After cleaning, replace the metallic plug and the cover.
Then clean the connection channel behind the ash box.
Follow these instructions: Open the maintenance door and
remove the ash box. Then remove the metal cover, which
is fastened with two butterfly nuts. To remove the cover,
swivel it to an upright position and pull it out. Behind the
cover, you can access the connection channel for cleaning
purposes (see picture 6). After cleaning, replace the metal
cover and fasten the butterfly nuts, replace the ash box and
close the maintenance door.
