Mounting Directions
1. Remove the factory glovebox from your TJ by gently pulling forward on the plastic tab on the right
side until the tab clears the dash and the box rotates out all the way or by releasing the holding
strap. Gently pull on the glovebox until the plastic hinges release.
2. Remove the factory lock catch at the top of the opening by unscrewing the two Phillips head
screws, save screws.
3. Remove the eight Phillips head screws that attach the steel framework to the dash, save screws.
4. Cut and stick the neoprene strip across the top and down the sides of the Tuffy glovebox frame
(Where the closed door will meet up with the frame)
5. Bolt the Tuffy glovebox in by fastening the 10 original screws into the original mounting holes
(Eight around the face of the new frame and two behind the new lock catch on the frame). It is
easiest to just start all the screws at first then tighten them all the way down.
6. For security two holes will need to be drilled in the dash frame. The two extra holes in the new
lock catch on the frame can be used as pilots to drill these holes in your dash frame.
WARNING! Be careful while drilling and avoid drilling into air ducts.

7. Fasten the Glovebox to the frame through these two new holes with the 10-32 x 1/2 screws, nuts,
and washers.
8. Enable the door stop by partially closing the glovebox and then adjusting the height of the
doorstop so that it will hit the back of the new lock catch preventing it from opening all the way
then tighten the wingnuts.
9. Check the lock operation. If it appears that there is a large gap between the lid and the frame first
check to make sure all the screws around the new latch mount are fully tightened including the
hardware in the two drilled holes. If there is still a gap most likely there is a slight variance in the
angle of the mounting frame in the Jeep dash which can effect the new latch mount location. In
this case an adjustable wrench can be used to bend either the mounting surface on the Jeep dash
frame or the new latch mount to compensate for the variance and tighten the fit.
ATTENTION:
FREQUENT LUBRICATION IS NECESSARY ON THE LOCKING SYSTEM
The pushbutton lock contains an “O” ring seal to protect the interior from dust and water. If this
mechanism is not lubricated regularly it will become difficult to operate and it may not return to its
home position preventing the key from operating the lock. If this happens simply pull up on the
pushbutton to manually bring it back to its home position. Lubricate the pushbutton with a light
lubricant such as silicone spray. The pushbutton may have to be periodically disassembled and
cleaned.
