3.3 Rack Mount the Server

3.3.1 Rack Setup Precautions

Warning: Before rack mounting the server, the physical environment should be set up to safely accommodate the server. Be sure that:
• The weight of all units in the rack is evenly distributed. Mounting of the equipment in the rack should be such that a hazardous condition is not achieved due to uneven mechanical loading.
• The rack will not tip over when the server is mounted, even when the unit is fully extended from the rack.
• For a single rack installation, stabilizers are attached to the rack.
• For multiple rack installations, racks are coupled together.
• Reliable earthing of rack-mounted equipment is maintained at all times. Particular attention should be given to supply connections other than direct connections to the branch circuit (e.g. use of power strips).
• A power cord will be long enough to fit into the server when properly mounted in the rack and will be able to supply power to the unit.
• The connection of the server to the power supply will not overload any circuits. Consideration should be given to the connection of the equipment to the supply circuit and the effect that overloading of the circuits might have on overcurrent protection and supply wiring. Appropriate consideration of equipment nameplate ratings should be used when addressing this concern.
• The server is only connected to a properly rated supply circuit. Reliable earthing (grounding) of rackmounted equipment should be maintained.
• The air flow through the server’s fan or vents is not restricted. Installation of the equipment in a rack should be such that the amount of air flow required for safe operation of the equipment is not compromised.
• The maximum operating ambient temperature does not exceed 104°F (40°C). If installed in a closed or multi-unit rack assembly, the operating ambient temperature of the rack environment may be greater than room ambient. Therefore, consideration should be given to installing the equipment in an environment compatible with the maximum ambient temperature (Tma) specified by the manufacturer.
Warning: Extend only one component at a time. Extending two or more components simultaneously may cause the rack to become unstable.

Install the heaviest server components on the bottom of the rack first, and then work up.
3.3.3.2 Identify the Sections of the Rack Rails
The chassis package includes two rack rail assemblies in the rack mounting kit. Each assembly consists of two sections: an inner fixed chassis rail that secures directly to the server chassis and an outer fixed rack rail that secures directly to the rack itself.
The 700 series chassis includes a set of inner rails in two sections: inner rails and inner rail extensions. The inner rails are pre-attached and do not interfere with normal use of the chassis if you decide not to use a server rack. Attach the inner rail extension to stabilize the chassis within the rack.
3.3.3.3 Install the Inner Rails
1. Place the inner rack extensions on the side of the chassis aligning the hooks of the chassis with the rail extension holes. Make sure the extension faces “outward” just like the pre-attached inner rail.
2. Slide the extension toward the front of the chassis.

4.4.2 Bridge mode

In Bridge mode, the appliance is installed “in line” between the internal network and the Internet router. Bridge mode also supports use of a bypass network card in the appliance (for some models). The bypass
card ensures connectivity if the appliance is powered down or unresponsive.
Caution: Connecting the Web Filter in Bridge mode requires you to physically disconnect Internet access for a brief time. You should plan to perform this installation during a network maintenance period.
• If you do not have a bypass card, network connectivity will be lost until the Web Filter software is active.
The following points apply to all Bridge mode installations:
1. Identify the network connection that carries outbound HTTP and HTTPS traffic from the internal network switch to the Internet router. This connection will be redirected through the Web Filter appliance.
2. Have ready two Cat-5e (or Cat-6) cables to complete the connection.
3. After completing the physical connection and starting the appliance, use the Web Filter GUI (Admin Console) to generate a CA Certificate that Web Filter will use to allow decoding of Google and YouTube HTTPS requests from users’ browsers. See the System > Bridge screen in the console.
