the warranty period, should only be performed by an authorized and approved
service dealer. When servicing, use only identical replacement parts.

Read the Operator’s Manual and follow all warnings and safety
instructions. Failure to do so can result in serious injury to the operator
and/or bystanders.

GENERAL POWER TOOL SAFETY WARNINGS

Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.

The term "power tool" in the warnings refers to your mains-operated
(corded) power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool.

Work area safety:

a) Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite

accidents.

b) Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the

presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create
sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.

c) Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool.

Distractions can cause you to lose control.

Electrical safety:
a) Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any

way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools.

Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.

b) Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces such as

pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of
electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.

c) Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a

power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.

d) Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or

unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp
edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk

of electric shock.

e) When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord

suitable for outdoor use . Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces
the risk of electric shock.

f) If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a

residual current device (RCD) protected supply. Use of an RCD
reduces the risk of electric shock.

Personal safety:
a) Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when

operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or
under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of

inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.

b) Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection.

Protective equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard
hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce
personal injuries.

c) Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position

before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up
or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch

or energizing power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.

d) Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool

on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool
may result in personal injury.

e) Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This

enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.

f) Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Keep your hair,

clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewelry or
long hair can be caught in moving parts.

g) If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and

collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used.

Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.

Power tool use and care:
a) Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your

application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the

rate for which it was designed.

b) Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off.

Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous
and must be repaired.

c) Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or the battery pack

from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing
accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures

reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.

d) Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow

persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to
operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of

untrained users.

e) Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving

parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the
power tool’s operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired
before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.

f) Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools

with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.

g) Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with

these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and
the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations dif

ferent

from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.

Battery tool use and care:

a) Recharge only with the charger specified by the manufacturer. A

charger that is suitable for one type of battery pack may create a risk of
fire when used with another battery pack.

b) Use power tools only with specifically designated battery packs. Use

of any other battery packs may create a risk of injury and fire.

c) When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal

objects, like paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws or other small
metal objects, that can make a connection from one terminal to
another. Shorting the battery terminals together may cause burns or a fire.

d) Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery;

avoid contact. If contact accidentally occurs, flush with water. If
liquid contacts eyes, additionally seek medical help. Liquid ejected

from the battery may cause irritation or burns.

Service:
a) Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only

identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the

power tool is maintained.

OTHER SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

• Extension Cords: Make sure the extension cord is in good condition, is
heavy enough to carry the current that the unit will draw. If in doubt, use
the next heavier gauge cord. An undersized extension cord will cause a
drop in line voltage resulting in a loss of power and overheating. The table
shown illustrates the correct size to use depending on the cord length and
nameplate amperage rating.

• If the extension cord is damaged in any manner while plugged in,
disconnect the extension cord from both the house and the unit. Do not
re-use until the extension cord has been repaired or replaced.

• Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) protection should be provided on the
circuit(s) or outlet(s) to be used for this unit. Receptacles are available having
built-in GFCI protection and may be used for an added measure of safety.

• Wear safety glasses or goggles with side shields that are marked as
meeting ANSI Z87.1 standards, and ear/hearing protection when
operating this unit. Wear a face or dust mask if the operation is dusty.

• Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintain cutting tools with
sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.

• Allow the unit to cool before storing or transporting. Be sure to secure the
unit while transporting.

• Never douse or squirt the unit with water or any other liquid. Keep handles
dry, clean and free from debris. Clean after each use.

• Keep these instructions. Refer to them often and use them to instruct other
users. If loaning someone this unit, also loan them these instructions.

When using electric tools, basic safety precautions

and personal injury. Only use UL listed extension cords suitable for
outdoor use, such as Type SW-A, STW-A. STOW-A, SJW-A,
SJOW-A, SJTW-A, or SJTOW-A.

ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS

This unit comes completely assembled.

UNPACKING

1. Carefully remove the product and any accessories from the box.

2. Inspect the product carefully to make sure no breakage or damage occurred
during shipping. Do not discard the packing material until you have carefully
inspected and satisfactorily operated the product. If any parts are damaged
or missing, please call 1-800-828-5500 (U.S.) or 1-800-668-1238 (Canada)
for assistance.

CHARGING THE BATTERY

NOTE: This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits

for a Class B digital device, pursuant to part 15 of the FCC Rules. These
limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful
interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses
and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in
accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to
radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference
will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause
harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be
determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged
to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following
measures:

— Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.
— Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver.
— Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to

which the receiver is connected.

— Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician for help.

NOTE: The battery is not shipped fully charged. It is recommended to fully

charge the battery before use to ensure that maximum run time can be
achieved. The lithium-ion battery will not develop a memory and may be
charged at any time. A fully discharged battery will require approximately
3-5 hours to completely charge.

NOTE: Use only the supplied charger (Model # SH-DC120400, P/N 753-

06672) when charging. The use of any other charger could damage the
battery or create a hazardous condition.

authority to operate the equipment.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

CHARGING THE BATTERY

1. Plug the charger into an AC wall outlet /
receptacle.

2. Insert the charger into the back of the unit
(Fig. 1).

3. The red LED will illuminate (Fig. 1).

4. The red LED will turn off when the battery is
fully charged.

5. Disconnect the unit from the charger.

NOTE: The unit may be stored with the charger still attached, but the

charger should be disconnected from the wall outlet / receptacle when
doing so.

NOTE: Lithium-ion batteries, while in use, will continue to provide full power

without power fade, unlike typical batteries; when the battery is fully
discharged, the battery circuitry will immediately cut power to the tool and
require immediate charging.

IMPORTANT! DO NOT use the unit while it is charging. Doing so may

damage the unit and battery.

NOTE: This accessory is to be used on electric start capable units only.
Refer to the Starting Instructions section of the unit’s Operator’s Manual for
proper starting instructions when using this accessory. FOR INTERMITTENT
USE ONLY.

OPERATING THE ELECTRIC STARTER

NOTE: Inspect the unit prior to use. DO NOT use the unit if any part is

damaged in any way. Take to an authorized service dealer for replacement
or repairs.

1. Place the electric starter keyed tip into the hole in the rear of the engine,
making sure the engine tabs on the back of the engine are flush with the
indents on the electric starter. (Fig. 2)

NOTE: It may be necessary to slightly twist the

electric starter until the key fits securely into
the engine.

2. With the electric starter flush with the engine,
squeeze the trigger in intervals of no more
than 4 seconds each until the unit starts.
(Fig. 3)

NOTE: The electric starter is designed to be

used intermittently. Squeeze the trigger for no
longer than 4 seconds at a time with a 120
second cooling period in between each
starting attempt.

3. Once the engine has started, remove the
electric starter from the engine. The unit is
ready for use.

If... the electric starter does not turn on or

suddenly stops while in use, wait at least 5
seconds to allow the unit to cool.

IMPORTANT! The battery is equipped with an internal circuit breaker that

will automatically shut off power to the unit if the battery is overloaded
during heavy use. Once cooled, the battery will reset itself. Follow these
steps if an overload occurs:

1. Release the trigger and then restart the unit.

2. The battery may need to cool for approximately 1 minute.

WARNING: To avoid serious personal injury and unit damage do

not use the electric starter in damp or wet locations, in rain or snow.

WARNING: A damaged unit may cause serious personal injury

due to electrical shock. DO NOT use until the unit is repaired or
replaced by an authorized service dealer.

CLEANING

Use a small brush to clean off the outside of the unit and keyed tip. Do not
use strong detergents. Household cleaners that contain aromatic oils such
as pine and lemon, and solvents such as kerosene, can damage plastic
housing or handle. Wipe off any moisture with a soft cloth.

STORAGE

• Check unit before storage to be sure the equipment is in safe working
condition.

• Stop the motor.

• Store the unit indoors, in a dry and locked place, out of the reach of children.

• Maintain or replace safety and instruction labels, as necessary.

Damage resulting from the installation or use of any accessory or attachment not approved by Troy-Bilt for use with the product(s) covered by this manual will
void your warranty as to any resulting damage.

No implied warranty, including any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose, applies after the applicable period of
express written warranty above as to the parts as identified. No other express warranty or guaranty, whether written or oral, except as mentioned
above, given by any person or entity, including a dealer or retailer, with respect to any product shall bind Troy-Bilt. During the period of the Warranty,
the exclusive remedy is repair or replacement of the product as set forth above. (Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty

lasts, so the above limitation may not apply to you.)

The provisions as set forth in this Warranty provide the sole and exclusive remedy arising from the sales. Troy-Bilt shall not be liable for incidental or
consequential loss or damages including, without limitation, expenses incurred for substitute or replacement lawn care services, for transportation
or for related expenses, or for rental expenses to temporarily replace a warranted product. (Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied

warranty lasts, so the above limitation may not apply to you.)
In no event shall recovery of any kind be greater than the amount of the purchase price of the product sold. Alteration of the safety features of the product

shall void this Warranty. You assume the risk and liability for loss, damage, or injury to you and your property and/or to others and their property arising out of
the use or misuse or inability to use the product.

This limited warranty shall not extend to anyone other than the original purchaser, original lessee or the person for whom it was purchased as a gift.

a) La fiche de l’outil doit correspondre à la prise de courant. Ne modifiez

en aucune manière la fiche électrique. N’utilisez jamais un adaptateur de
fiche avec des outils munis d’une mise à la terre. Des fiches électriques
non modifiées et une prise de courant correspondante réduiront les
risques de choques électriques.

b) Evitez tout contact avec les surfaces utilisées pour la mise à la terre

tels que les tuyaux de plomberie, les radiateurs, des cuisinières et
les frigidaires. Le risque d’électrocution augmente lorsque votre corps

est mis à terre ou touche le sol.

e) N’essayez pas d’atteindre un point trop éloigné. Gardez vos pieds

fermement et bien à plat sur le sol et gardez toujours votre équilibre. Ceci
vous permet un meilleur contrôle de l’outil dans des situations inattendues.

f) Portez des vêtements appropriés. Ne portez pas de vêtements amples

ou de bijoux. Gardez vos cheveux, vos vêtements et gants éloignés des
parties en mouvement. Les vêtements et les bijoux trop lâches ou des
cheveux longs peuvent se prendre dans les pièces en mouvement.

g) Si des ustensiles pour l’extraction de poussières sont fournis avec

l’outil, assurez-vous qu'ils sont installés et utilisés correctement.

L’utilisation d'un extracteur de poussière peut réduire les accidents en
relation avec la poussière.

L’utilisation et l’entretien d’un outil électrique :

a) Ne forcez pas l’outil. Utilisez l’outil approprié pour la tâche. L’outil
