BP Series External Battery Packs
FRANÇAIS: p. 3
ESPAÑOL: p. 6
INTRODUCTION
Tripp Lite BP Series External Battery Packs have output voltages of either 36 volts (BP36VXR, BP36V33, BP36V27) or 24 volts (BP24V33) and are designed for use with various Tripp Lite UPS systems equipped with external battery pack connectors that are color-coded Red (24 volt) or Grey (36 volt). When used with the appropriate Tripp Lite UPS, they meet UL standard 1778.
GENERAL BATTERY PACK INFORMATION
The batteries in the BP Series Battery Packs will eventually wear out and be unable to provide adequate backup times. The batteries used in the Battery Packs should only be replaced by factory authorized service personnel.
Batteries are shipped charged. Because batteries present a risk of electrical shock and burn from high short-circuit current, observe proper precautions. Use tools with insulated handles. Remove metal objects such as watches and rings before working with batteries. Never bridge battery terminals or allow objects to contact battery terminals: serious injury could result. Confirm that the item to be powered is of the same voltage as the battery pack (36V or 24V, depending on model) before connecting to battery pack. Sparks may result during final battery connection. Replace batteries only with sealed lead-acid batteries of the same number, type, voltage and amp hour. The batteries are recyclable. Proper disposal of batteries is required; refer to your local codes for disposal requirements. In the USA only, you may call 1-800-SAV-LEAD (1-800-728-5323) for complete recycling information.
Do not dispose of the batteries in a fire. Do not open the batteries. A risk of electrical shock can be present with the batteries. Do not short or bridge the battery terminals with any object. Do not open the Battery Pack for any reason. There are no user-serviceable parts inside the battery pack.

INSTALLATION
BP Series Battery Packs are compact units shipped with the batteries installed for quick, easy installation.
Stacking Battery Packs
All the BP Series Battery Packs except the BP36V27 are stackable. Indents on the top cover of each stackable Battery Pack mate with the feet of other Battery Packs as they are stacked.
DO NOT stack the battery packs more than two (2) high. Use caution when lifting the Battery Packs. Because of the considerable weight of all BP Series Battery Packs [BP36VXR:
185 lb. (84 kg.); BP36V33: 88 lb. (40 kg.); BP36V27: 58 lb. (26 kg.); BP24V33: 66 lb. (30 kg.)], at least two people should assist in lifting them. Because the Battery Packs will be
held from the bottom when lifting, care should be taken when setting them down to avoid injury. Make sure the surface where the packs are installed is level and strong enough to support the combined weight of the Battery Packs and the UPS.

Connecting Battery Packs
All BP Series Battery Packs have 18" output cords with 175-amp polarized plugs except the BP36V27, which has a 50-amp polarized plug. The plugs for all models are color-coded by voltage: Red for 24 volt, or Grey for 36 volt. All models also have a color-coded (Red for 24 volt, Grey for 36 volt) input connector—select models feature an input connector on a 3" cord for easier connection. Simply connect your Battery Pack's output plug into your UPS's input connector. If you are "daisy chaining" multiple Battery Packs for greatly increased runtime, connect the output plugs of all but the first Battery Pack (which connects to the UPS) into the input connectors of the other Battery Packs.
Battery Plug
& Connector
When connecting Battery Packs, make sure they are connected to the same voltage input.
CAUTION!
24 Volt Battery Packs must be connected to 24 Volt Input; 36 Volt Battery Packs must be connected to 36 Volt Input. Also, make sure the Battery Pack plug is connected to a Battery Pack connector with the same color code (Red plugs must be connected to Red connectors; Grey plugs must be connected to Grey connectors). Make sure that the battery packs are approximately the same age. DO NOT plug a battery pack into itself.
Additional battery packs connect in parallel to each other, as the polarized connectors automatically orient to the correct polarity upon connection. In this way, battery voltage is maintained, while battery amp-hour capacity is increased proportionately, depending on the number of additional packs installed.
Observe limits on operation from external batteries. The limits are listed next to the

connector on the rear of the UPS. DO NOT connect more than the specified number of battery packs to the UPS. DO NOT unplug external batteries from the UPS while the UPS is operating, due to the possibility of arcing.
MAINTENANCE
The BP Series Battery Packs require no maintenance but should be kept dry at all times. Avoid locations with high heat and/or humidity. The battery packs should be kept fully charged by being connected to an active UPS system as described on the front of this instruction sheet and not left in a depleted condition. Batteries left in a discharged state will suffer a permanent loss of capacity.
TROUBLESHOOTING
There are no user-serviceable parts inside the BP Series Battery Packs. DO NOT open the Battery Packs for any reason. There is a fuse array inside the Battery Packs. If a heavy overload or short circuit is encountered, the fuse will open (blow). A Battery Pack with a blown fuse will deliver no output voltage at zero load. A qualified technician must replace the fuse, which is a standard automotive type. Contact Tripp Lite Customer Support for additional information.
