Rack Installation
Read Important Safety Instructions Section Before Installation
Note: The user must determine the fitness of hardware and procedures before mounting. If hardware and procedures are not suitable for the application, contact the manufacturer of the rack or rack enclosure for assistance. The procedures described in this manual are for common rack and rack enclosure types and may not be appropriate for all applications.
Internal Battery Removal
DANGER! LETHAL HIGH VOLTAGE HAZARD!
Potentially lethal high voltage exists within the battery pack, even when it is not connected to a UPS system. Internal battery removal/replacement should be performed by qualified electricians or service personnel only, following all local electrical codes and the precautions listed in this manual.
Due to the weight of the 4U external battery pack, Tripp Lite recommends disconnecting and removing the internal batteries from the battery pack prior to rack installation. After the battery pack has been installed in the rack, the batteries must be reinserted and reconnected before connecting the battery pack to the UPS system. The battery removal process will be reversed during battery insertion, so taking notes during removal may be helpful.

WARNING!
The included mounting shelves will not support more than one battery pack. Do not attempt to stack multiple battery packs on a single set of mounting shelves. Do not attempt to install the battery pack in a 2-post rack. Failure to follow these warnings will create a risk of equipment damage and personal injury.
The 4U battery pack includes the hardware needed for mounting in a 4-post rack or rack enclosure, including an adjustable rackmount shelf kit that provides additional support (required). Note: The 4U battery pack should be mounted below the UPS system power module, as low in the rack as possible.
Connect the two segments of each shelf using the included screws and nuts . Leave the screws slightly loose so the shelves can be adjusted in the next step.
Adjust each shelf to fit the rack, then mount the shelves in the lowest available space of the rack with the screws, nuts and washers provided . The support ledges should face inward. Tighten the screws that connect the shelf segments .
Attach the mounting brackets to the forward mounting holes of the battery pack cabinet with the screws provided . The mounting bracket “ears” should face forward.
With the help of one or more assistants, lift the battery pack cabinet and slide it onto the mounting shelves. Attach the battery pack cabinet to the rack by inserting the appropriate hardware
through the mounting bracket

Additional Battery Pack Connection (Daisy-Chaining)
Connect multiple battery packs to a single UPS system by connecting the first battery pack to the UPS system power module's external battery connector, then daisy-chaining the others by linking a connector on the second battery pack to a connector on the first, a connector on the third to a connector on the second and so on. Secure each connector with the included connector retention bracket, following the procedure outlined in the UPS Power Module Connection section.
Note: When daisy-chaining multiple battery packs, they should be identical models of similar age and level of wear. Multiple battery packs provide longer runtimes, but also require longer recharge times.
Warning: Always use the connector retention brackets to secure the battery pack connections. Do not attempt to operate the UPS system without the connector retention brackets.

Maintenance and Troubleshooting
Maintenance
The battery pack does not require maintenance, but it should be kept dry at all times. Avoid installation in locations with high heat and/or humidity. The battery pack should be kept fully charged by being connected to an active UPS system, not left in a depleted condition. Batteries left in a discharged state for an extended period will suffer a permanent loss of capacity.
The internal batteries in the battery pack will eventually wear out and be unable to provide adequate backup runtime. The internal batteries should only be replaced by factory authorized service personnel. Tripp Lite offers a convenient exchange program that allows North American customers to exchange worn-out battery packs for fully functional replacements at a price comparable to the cost of internal battery replacement. For more information, call Tripp Lite at (773) 869-1234.
Troubleshooting
There is a fuse array inside the battery pack. If a heavy overload or short circuit is encountered, a fuse will open (blow). A battery pack with a blown fuse will not deliver output voltage at any load (it will not function). Fuse replacement must be performed by qualified electricians or service personnel. Fuses must be replaced with fuses of the same number and type. Contact Tripp Lite Customer Support for additional information.
Storage and Service
Storage
Disconnect the battery pack before storage. If the battery pack will be stored for an extended period, recharge it fully every three months by connecting it to a compatible UPS system for at least 12 hours. (The UPS system must be connected to live AC power in order to recharge the battery pack.)
Service
Before returning the battery pack for service, follow these steps:
1. Review the instructions in this manual to ensure that the service problem does not originate from a misreading of the instructions.
2. If the problem continues, do not contact or return the battery pack to the dealer. Instead, call Tripp Lite at (773) 869-1233. A service technician will ask for the battery pack's model number, serial number and purchase date and will attempt to correct the problem over the phone.
3. If the problem requires service, the technician will issue a Returned Material Authorization (RMA) number, which is required for service. The technician can also arrange to send proper packaging if required. Securely pack the unit to avoid damage during shipping. Do not use Styrofoam beads. Any damages (direct, indirect, special, incidental or consequential) incurred during shipment to Tripp Lite or an authorized Tripp Lite service center are not covered under warranty. Items shipped to Tripp Lite or an authorized Tripp Lite service center must have transportation charges prepaid. Mark the RMA number on the outside of the package. If the battery pack is within the warranty period, enclose a copy of the sales receipt. Return the unit for service using an insured carrier to the address supplied by the service technician.
