GeoExplorer™ receiver
A warm boot does not affect data files or data dictionaries. To choose this, go to the Configuration screen and select Factory Defaults.
Perform a warm boot if:
• the unit is not recording any positions in the files
• you cannot download a file
• you cannot get the GeoExplorer receiver to receive RTCM corrections
A cold boot sets everything back to the defaults, deletes all data files, data dictionaries and the almanac, and checks the memory.
Perform a cold boot if:
• the unit will not lock onto the expected number of satellites
• the unit displays an error message
• the unit is stuck displaying: Trimble Navigation – Flash Loader

TDC1 data collector
A warm boot does not cause data loss or reset the configuration settings. Perform a warm boot if:
• the unit is locked up and will not respond to keypad entries
A cold boot deletes all data files, data dictionaries, and performs a memory check on the system.
Perform a cold boot if:
• the warm boot did not work TDC2™ data collector
A warm or cold boot does not cause data loss or reset the configuration.

Perform a cold boot if:
• the unit is running in a continuous loop, and you need to break out or if the warm
boot did not work
MC-V data collector
A warm or cold boot does not cause data loss or reset the configuration.

• the unit is locked up
• the unit does not respond to keypad entries

• the unit will not come on at all
• the screen displays garbled letters or if the warm boot did not work

Basic + receiver
A cold boot clears all files and resets the configuration. (There is no warm boot for the Basic+ receiver.)
Perform a cold boot if:
• the unit is locked up
• the unit will not lock onto any satellites TFC1 data collector
A warm or cold boot will not delete files or change the configuration.
Perform a warm boot if:
• you change anything in the DOS configuration files
• the unit is locked up

TSC1™ data collector
A warm boot will not delete files or change the configuration.
Perform a warm boot if:
• the unit is locked up
• the unit does not respond to keypad entries
A cold boot will erase the internal memory. It does not affect the PC card. All data in the TSC1 data collector’s memory, including any extra coordinate system files you have downloaded onto the TSC1, will be lost after a cold boot.
Perform a cold boot if:
• the warm boot did not work
