EZ-Set Tips
MORE-->
1) Connect a fully charged battery pack to the XL-5 electronic speed control (ESC) and turn on your transmitter.
2) The SET button on the XL-5 turns the model on and off. Press the SET button until the light turns green and then release. The light MUST be on for proper operation. If the light is not green, the speed control is not fully on.
4) For braking, push the throttle trigger forward (away from you).
5) For reverse, release the throttle trigger to neutral (after applying brakes and coming to a complete stop) and once again push the throttle trigger forward.
Note that the brakes must be applied before reverse will engage. If the model has rolled to a stop without braking, push the trigger forward to apply the brakes, release to neutral, and then push forward again to engage reverse.
6) To turn the model (ESC) off, press the SET button until
the green light turns off.
7) If the model will be off for more than a few minutes, disconnect the battery.
8) Always disconnect and remove batteries for storage.
Tip For Smooth Braking: For the best braking performance, smoothly push the throttle trigger forward and hold at the desired braking level. Do not pump the brakes. If the trigger is allowed to return to neutral and then pushed forward again, reverse will engage resulting in a sudden change in direction.
Optional Gearing Note: The included optional large pinion gear is intended for high-speed running on hard surfaces. It is NOT for off-road and repetitive starting and stopping conditions. Such use creates excessive overheating and may damage your motor (see the gearing instructions included in your optional parts package).
XL-5 Operating Modes (Profiles):
Changing the mode is done by pressing and holding the SET button until the XL-5 blinks red the number of times that correspond with the desired Mode. Release the SET button to select the Mode.

Tip For Fast Mode Changes: The XL-5 is set to Profile 1 Standard Mode as the default. To quickly change to Profile 3 Training Mode, with the transmitter on, press and hold the SET button until the light blinks red 3 times and then release.
To quickly change back to Profile 1 Standard Mode (full power), with the transmitter on and the XL-5 off, press and hold the EZ-SET button until the light turns green, red, shuts off, blinks red one time and then release.
Caring for Your Motor: Your model is equipped with a high performance modified 12-turn racing motor. Follow these tips to maintain the best performance and longest life.
1) Break in the motor by driving smoothly on a flat paved surface for the first battery pack. This will allow the brushes to seat.
2) Avoid abusive driving that puts extreme current loads on the motor and cause it to become hot. Examples include driving through deep sand, tall grass, attempting to push immovable objects, and repetitive starting, stopping, and direction changes.
3) The XL-5 is equipped with thermal shutdown protection to protect its circuitry, but it does not protect the motor from thermal damage caused by abusive driving.
