CONTENT
For those products to which ENERGY STAR is applied, the Default Time (the Low Power Mode and
the Off Mode) and Auto-Duplex are set. If any of these are to be changed during servicing, care must
be taken that they follow the ENERGY STAR standards without fail.
1. Change of Default Time
General
FIELD APPLICATION
To be applied when necessary
FACTORY APPLICATION
If inconvenience of a considerable extent has occurred to a user, the time can be extended.
However, in keeping with the standards, the total Default Time (Off Mode and Low Power Mode)
must not exceed 240 minutes.

2. To disable the Off Mode
To gain understanding for ENERGY STAR's aims, even though use is perfectly recommendable
in this extended-time condition, the Off Mode should only be disabled, if there are strong
arguments concerning this from the user.
Be careful, since disabling of the Low Power Mode must not be executed in accordance with the
ENERGY STAR standards.
3. Auto-Duplex
In copier with a speed of above 44 CPM, Auto-Duplex is ON in the Default value. If Auto-Duplex
is ON in the Default value, this can be disabled if the user so desires based on his particular
conditions of use. Also, since there has been a change to the ENERGY STAR (Tier 2) standards,
it is no longer necessary for Auto-Duplex to be ON in the Default value. It is scheduled for this
change to be made in turn to copiers being shipped.
* Refer to the contents of a separate information sheet (BSI) for the relevant information.
4. Changing method
Follow the methods prescribed in the relevant service handbooks or BSIs regarding changing or
disabling the Default Time and Auto-Duplex.
5. About ENERGY STAR
Environmental problems, of which global warming is the foremost, are closely connected with a
daily energy consumption philosophy. Energy saving for office automation equipment has
become an important topic throughout the world.
In this respect, automatic energy saving standards have been established for office automation
equipment, for which it would be rather problematic to turn off the main power source.
In response, the "International Energy Star Problem" was established based on an agreement
made by the governments of Japan and the United States.

The above label can be attached to machines which satisfy the standards of the "International
Energy Star Program". In order to satisfy these standards, these machines are set at the time of
shipping from the factory in such a way so as when left in the standby condition, they will
automatically go into the Low Power Mode and the Off Mode after a fixed time. If the machines
are used in accordance with the setting made in the factory at the time of shipping, then they can
be regarded as complying with the energy saving philosophy as propagated in the "International
Energy Star Program" standards.
However, once the Low Power Mode or Off Mode has been entered, recovery time will be
necessary to return to the standby condition to enable copying to be performed again.
Therefore, even at the risk of slightly reducing the efficacy of the energy saving program, it is
necessary to be able to respond to the needs of users who want to be able to make copies
immediately at any time.
In case like this, after having explained the aims of the "International Energy Star Program" to
the user, it would still be within the standards to extend the transfer timer.
Moreover, even if use is being made of an extended transfer timer, when the user expresses a
strong desire for there to be no transfer to the Off Mode, then, and only then, is it still within the
standards for a change to be made preventing such entry into the Off Mode.
